Happened to me this morning. Three hours later it was up and running after I took it apart and reflowed the motherboard and applied new thermal compound. This is repairable.
i dont know why but it seems like sony and microsoft planned these "deseases" on these consoles... i mean, why did they "plant" the red and yellow lights if their wasnt a desease!?
my one lasted 14months it got ylod then sent it to sony to get it refurbised for £131 with 3months warranty. The best way is to blow dry the back vents for 10-15 minutes then leave it somewhere cool near a fan or outside the garden

@slayakidps3 start off with getting a griddle a heat gun rosin flux and some blots i think like 6 mm start with mounting the bolts on the griddle in sort of a 4 array then put rosin flx under the chip put the temp on 400 on the griddle then let the board heat up then about 2 inches away from each chip go in circles for about 30 sec. each chip then let cool down reapply thermal or i can give you an address and i can do it for you i charge 50 plus shipping back to you thanks Carlos

it happened to me .. idk how to fix it but i know how to force eject the disc , switch off the ps3 main switch ,, press the eject button hold it and switch on the ps3 at the same time and the fan gonna go at max and wait for a few seconds and press eject a few time and it will eventually eject , then it goes back to its dead state ...

Unless you want a refurbish one and don't care about your data then that's fine. Send your PS3 to knightsgamingrepair instead. You only pay $79 and you will not lose your data. I send my PS3 to them on July 9, 2009 and got it back on July 24, 2009. My PS3 is working fine and im satisfy with them.
i played bioshock for about 2 hours one day then i had to go out to dinner with the family, used the power switch to turn it off, next day went to play and it wouldnt load up the disk.
same thing happened to me check out my vid. you have to call sony so they send a cofin or w.e its callled so they can fix it basically you hardrive failed and the system did to .....
u wont lose any of trophies it might take awhile to load them once u get ur ps3 back. as long as u synced them to the server they are saved on your account. just log in to ur account and try to view your trophies they should load.
Quantum of Solace is stuck in mine and im pissed off cause this is the second ps3 to have the same problem and its the one sony shipped out as a replacement

no the ps3 formats the hard drive to only work with that modal so you can't switch hard drives between ps3's

u wont lose any of trophies it might take awhile to load them once u get ur ps3 back. as long as u synced them to the server they are saved on your account. just log in to ur account and try to view your trophies they should load.
