This can't be from December 1987 since '87 was the year of the infamous Punch-up in Piestany that resulted in both the Canadians and the Soviets being disqualified from the tournament. And in the commercial, the announcer says that Canada is "defending champs," so I believe it's most likely from 1985 (that's my guess).
@Tubewings Thanks for the reply. The original tape that I pulled this from said 1987, but you must be right since The Friendly Giant stopped running in March of 1985. Therefore, this is likely from Christmas season of 1984. I will make the necessary edits when able.
@TelevisionDetroit Actually, now that I've done some more research, it is very likely to be December of 1985, since they did repeats of "Friendly Giant" for years after its cancellation, and the announcer mentioned Canada's games against the United States (Sunday, December 29), the Soviet Union (Thursday, January 2, 1986), and Czechoslovakia (Saturday, January 4, 1986).
@Tubewings Yes, thank you for clearing it up. I would like my clips to be indentified as clearly as possible and I am thankful for your assistance. Thanks again!
I'd like to know where channel 9 got that mix of Sleigh Ride.
