the onions are living creatures. when they sense that there`s no pikmin inside them over night, they spend some saved energy creating one pikmin to gain more food. it`s kind of like the onions have an insurance

So in a sense, the Onions are the "actual" life form, controlling the Pikmin.

Everybody else laughed at it, but now we regret it was ever done because of how much the young fanboys have shoved it down our throats to death.

Uh... They aren't extinct as long as the onions stand. I know it's a Pikmin extinction, but if onions are like pikmin reproducers, then they are themselves pikmin if you think about it. And why don't the enemies freaking eat the onions if they're that hungry? The only enemies that go into the landing site are Iridescent Beetles, Breadbug, Smoky Progg, and Swooping Snitchbugs. And only 1 of them kills, but never eats them... plus it's optional! I like ranting :3
