  • I'm trying to work Garou motw on the current mame but I can't the chd file for it and the web site to the link doesn't exist anymore. Do you know any other sites I could go to?

  • @FATALFURYKID Garou doesn't have a chd, only rom and Neo-Geo bios. I mainly use emuparadise for current MAME.

  • @neckshredder1 I have the neo geo bios and garou and it still wouldn't work because it said it needed a chd

  • @FATALFURYKID Damn MAME's generic warning screen, lol! That screen says it's missing some rom OR chd. Most of the time people already have a rom so they then assume a chd is missing, even if the game doesn't need one.

To find out what's really going on, right click the game in the GUI and go Audit to view specific details of what MAME expects to see for the game to work. This problem can usually be avoided by simply matching current MAMEUI with emuparadise.

  • Great tutorial mate, this really breaks the whole CHD thing down into a nice bite sized chunk. Just a little FYI though for anyone having trouble getting SF3 to run, I needed to add another file (sfiii3_usa.29f400.u2) to the folder I had the CHD in before it would work. Just to confuse things, in it's original downloaded form the file was named sf33usa.bin - I just had to change the name (don't keep the .bin extension) to the one I mentioned above and all was groovy.

  • @MrThunderwing Thanks mate. Yeah, if you right click>explore a normal sfiii3.zip parent rom then sfiii3_usa.29f400.u2 is the name of the rom file inside the zip. You said you added it to the chd folder. I'm guessing you meant the roms folder? It's best to have the directory structure as per the vid or this directory example:

    C:\MAME\roms\sfiii3.zip\sfiii3\cap-33s-2.chd

That means MAME looks in roms, sees sfiii3.zip parent rom, then looks in sfiii3 and sees cap-33s-2.chd.

  • @neckshredder1 Hmm, I wonder if I've got this working in a bit of a strange way then as sfiii3_usa.29f400.u2 is definitely in the same folder, as the CHD image and not my roms folder. if I right click the zipped sfiii3 parent rom the sfiii3_usa.29f400.u2 file is indeed contained in it, but unless I have the sfiii3_usa.29f400.u2 file I downloaded separately in the sfiii3 CHD folder, I get a message saying it's missing. I wonder if I downloaded a corrupt parent rom? Still, it works, so I'm happy.

  • @MrThunderwing Yeah, there's something weird going on there then. The thing is though, is it working as good as it should? Do you notice any performance issues in-game (press F11), or anything else odd, like taking an extra long time to quit the game?

  • @neckshredder1 Not that I've noticed so far, all seems to be good. I should probably add I've got other CHDs working exactly as you described - it's only SF3 that I had to add the extra file to.

  • @MrThunderwing OK, thanks for the info. Like you said, so long as it's still working properly then there's no worries.

  • I did this for Killer instinct 1 and it works fine. But I do the same with Killer Instinct 2 and it says something is wrong with the chd. Trying to get it to work on the latest MAME32 Plus!

  • @RejectedManiac No worries, I'll check it out and get back to you.

  • @neckshredder1 Thanks a lot! Been trying to figure it out for the longest time. I tried Killer Instinct 2 v1.4 and when I do a audit this is what it says. "kinst2 : kinst2 - NOT FOUND" When I go to run the game it says this "kinst2.chd UNSUPPORTED CHD VERSION

ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run."

    Thanks!

  • @RejectedManiac No worries. OK, I checked KI2 and it runs perfectly. I got the game files from emuparadise and used MAMEPlus! 0.145 from sourceforge:

    mameplus_bin_x86-0.145r4981-20120209

  • @neckshredder1 Thanks a lot man. Apparently it was MAME32 Plus! that was the problem. It seems that it hasn't been updated for quite some time so I just tried it on regular MAME and it works fine. Sorry for the hassle and I posted this just in case someone else has the same problem they know what it is.

    Thanks again!

  • @RejectedManiac No problem. I guess you're talking about MAME32 Plus! Plus! (double plus) coz that's right; afaik it hasn't been updated properly since 0.119. Normal MAMEPlus! does get updated regularly though, which is what I used to test the game.

  • Very cool mate! So creating a new folder of the same name and changing the folder type as a sub directory will read from the Mame emulator? I never head that before. Thanks mate!

  • @HWC1218 Thanks Chuck, hope it helps you! It's not quite that sub-directory is the folder type for the chd, it's really just a normal, uncompressed folder. Since it has the same name as the rom zip though, MAME will see it as a sub-directory, eg. for 3rd Strike:

    C:\MAME\roms\sfiii3.zip\sfiii3\cap-33s-2.chd

So, MAME goes to roms and sees the rom zip first (sfiii3.zip) then the chd in the sub-directory (sfiii3\cap-33s-2.chd) and then everything should run smoothly.

  • can i pm you for the roms? lol

  • @minecraft200 Are you sonnawabit at MameAddicts?

  • @neckshredder1 :D yup

  • @minecraft200 OK, you know I'm Hierophant, one of the MA admins, right? I'm guessing that you're having some difficulty with your MA account at the moment. If so, lemme know what the problem is so I can sort it out for you (on my neckshredder1 gmail if you want).

  • @neckshredder1 its okay i can use my sonnawabit account :) all i need is roms :)

  • @minecraft200 No worries then, check your MA inbox.

  • @neckshredder1 Thanks :D Oh yeah btw uhh how do i upload videos on mame32 plus plus?

  • @neckshredder1 Make Videos*

  • @minecraft200 I have a video of how I do that in regular MAMEPlus!:

    watch?v=7AiZno4uTD8

  • @neckshredder1 well for that its beacuse my mameppkgui is mame does not have the play window

  • @minecraft200 It's a bit much to fit into a crapfart little youtube comment. Google this - "First off, you'll need to assign an AVI record hotkey" - and you'll see a post of mine at MA.

  • Hi can I ask you a Question

Do you Know If i Need a Chd File for The Game "Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes" Because it doesnt Works on my Mame

    Thanks.

  • @DiamondDog1982 No problem. MVC is rom only. Compatibility is the thing. You'll either need to try a different MAME version for the rom you got, or a different rom site for the MAME you got. For example, matching emuparadise with current MAME usually gives good compatibility.

  • which version of mame do you have

  • @DiamondDog1982 Hi, I have several versions. MAMEPlus! 0.134 is what I used for AVI recording the game here. Nothing special about 0.134 in particular, other than that's around the time where I finished picking most of the games I wanted. Also, MAMEPPK 0.119 for online play and some current/recent MAMEPlus! or MAMEUI for checking out new stuff like what I showed in my MAME 0.141 News vids.

  • Nice video mate. This is exactly how it SHOULD be explained. I have done this in the past thanks to MA. Speaking of MA how is Blue's Journey going? Did you hit 40K pts yet?

  • @eliaskementse Thanks mate!

No, I haven't had time to do much about my score.

  • @neckshredder1 Nevermind I'm sure you will...one day.

  • Can Crypt Killer Arcade Rom?

  • @Eddiekira97 Yeah, MAWS says driver status: imperfect, but Crypt Killer still seems to work OK.

  • Good. Very precise explanations, finally i understand how it all works. Tops man

  • @thunderhawk11 Cheers mate! It's extremely gratifying to know when this helps someone.

  • Here is the video I was talking about of the guy playing house of the dead 3 on mame. I can clearly see it says credits so it is working somewhere... /watch?v=QYmlPTU6KhA This was over a year ago.

  • @RejectedManiac I strongly doubt that is being played on MAME. Trust in the info at MAWS. Independent versions of some of these kinda games exist for PC download. They have nothing to do with MAME. I have Virtua Cop 2 working in this way.

  • I did what you said for house of the dead 3 but says there is files or CHD missing.

  • @RejectedManiac Apart from ROMs and CHD, HOTD3 also needs chihiro BIOS. Not worth bothering about in MAME yet, though; emulation is still preliminary at this time.

More info in my description about how to use MAWS to recognise currently unemulated games.

  • @neckshredder1 Alright I was just wondering because I seen that there are video's of the MAME version that seems to run good. So they must be out there somewhere. If I do find the chihiro files what would I do with them? Thanks

  • @neckshredder1 Well Virtua cop 3 and hotd 3 say preliminary. But idk how I see video's of ppl playing both games on mame?? If I found the vhihiro files and wanted to give it a try would I put chihiro.zip in the roms folder, put hotd3.zip in roms and make a folder for game name and place chd file in there and run the game or chihiro thru mame?

  • @RejectedManiac That's correct, place any zipped BIOS files in the roms folder. Refresh the GUI, MAME will detect the BIOS, then you can try running a game.

  • @RejectedManiac No way they're playing those on MAME, my friend. From what I've been told, you need 4-8 times the horsepower for emulation of games in MAME. What you play in MAME is the game in its rawest form, no optimization, no shortcuts, no tweaks for performance. And it gets even harder if the game is in "NOT PROPERLY WORKING" Or if a games is "NOT FULLY EMULATED." Is it possible? Of course....but not with even the highest end processors we have now.

  • i cant find the chd file plz help

  • @xPYSC0xP3NGU1Nx Emuparadise is good. I like gametronik, too, even though it's French, it's not that hard to navigate to the CHDs section.

  • I DOWNLOAD THE MAME FROM COOLROMS.COM

N THE FILE SF III 3RD STRIKE .

BEFORE LOADING, IT SAYS CHD MISSING?

ANY DOWNLOAD LINK FOR THE CHD FILE.???

    THANKZ =)

  • @zzzRek Coolrom has SFIII3S (Japan, 990512, NO CD), which doesn't need a CHD. That's also the one that people use to play online with Kaillera MAME 0.117 or 0.119.

If you want the SFIII3S (USA, 990608) CHD for current MAME, then emuparadise has it.

    Cheers!

  • @neckshredder1

i did download SFIII3S (Japan, 990512, NO CD) AND IT STILL SAYS

ONE OR MORE ROM NEEDED AND

    CHD FILES MISSING...... =(

DO YOU THINK ITZ THE MAME I GOT FROM THERE , IS FUCK UP ??

    PLZ HELP THANKS =)

  • @zzzRek Yeah, that's normally caused by a MAME version/ROM site compatibility problem. Different ROM sites are synced with specific versions of MAME, and it's not always clear which version.

If you go to the Kaillera site and download the one called "Mame32 Plus Plus v0.119 (10.9Mb)" then coolrom's SFIII3S (Japan, 990512, NO CD) version will work in that MAME. Also gives the added benefit of being playable online in Kaillera with other people using the same 0.119 version.

  • @neckshredder1

    i downloaded the mame v0.0119(10.9mb)

hey btw do i still have to get any chd file or bios .

    thanks for the help ,

am looking forward to more of your videos.

    thankz =D

  • @zzzRek No worries, that's a nice MAME to have. Sites like coolrom, romnation, etc. will have many compatible games for that version. Yes, you will still need BIOS and CHD for some games. First off, it's a good idea to get the Neo-Geo BIOS (neogeo.zip) from romnation or coolrom so that all the great Neo-Geo games can work. At romnation, any games that need a BIOS will have a link to the download. You only need one copy of a BIOS in your ROM folder for each suite of games that use it, though.

  • @neckshredder1 Also, don't you have to make sure the bios is compatible with the neogeo games you have, if they are the older bios versions newer rom dumps won't work with together... I think? I discovered this after I decided to simply overwrite all of the neogeo roms I'd collected for years with the new versions after coming back to Mame for the first time in a while. Took me ages to find an old rom of Waku Waku 7 and going through the rigmarole of putting Metal Slug 3 together again. Cheers

  • @googlyarsetube That's correct. It's essential for CHD and BIOS to be compatible with the MAME ver. # being used for any games that need those additional files. The Neo Geo BIOS from romnation or coolrom works with the Mame32 Plus Plus v0.119 ver. that I was telling zzzRek about. For more current MAME ver. #, emuparadise is a good bet.

  • where to find those CHD files? i can't find them!

  • @Yorsefener Have you tried GameTronik?

  • I have downloaded my roms from coolrom.com and its missing CHD files on most of the games. where do i get these CHD files or is there a torrent that i can get with working games?

  • @KristenNguyen009 I've never seen any MAME CHDs at coolrom before. Although torrents certainly do exist, I don't use them; a MAME CHD torrent is a huge download and a lot of what it contains is useless. I handpick the games I want. Using MAMEUI and getting the game files from a site like emuparadise is a good solution.

  • hello there I was wondering if anyone could help me with a game to load. I want to play the game critter crusher by sega and it won't run the game and I downloader the latest release of mame last night. when I press button to load game it says that the selected game is missing one or more required ROM or CHD. I even downloaded the STV bios since thats the hardware that originally ran the game. can someone help I've no clue even viewing this video, thanks :)

  • @kieranmay My vid would not have helped with that game since it's not chd; just rom and bios. I did get Critter Crusher working OK in MAMEUI 0.143 with the rom from emuparadise and bios from mamechannelit.

Unless you have a PC lightgun, though, the best way to control it is to set lightgun device to mouse in Default Game Options>Controller Mapping. Then at the in-game tab menu set P1 Button 1 to left mouse click (Mouse BO). Splat!

  • @neckshredder1 thanks for that but still no luck, could you tell me where I need to put the souce updates in that might help if thats whats wrong. I do just put the stv bios in with the roms don't I just like with the neo geo bios?

  • @kieranmay Yeah, just make sure it's called stvbios.zip and chuck it in the roms folder then refresh MAME GUI (F5). If the game still doesn't show in Available after that then open the All Games list and go right click on Critter Crusher>Audit to see exactly what's missing.

  • Australian! hahaha

  • @toranamunter Heh heh, yeah mate.

  • ok...so how do you get the chd file?

  • @SenseiAshley87 I don't link rom sites publicly. If you're a DIY type person you could check the compatibility solution info in the description or try Googling something like "mame chd file download". If you get really stuck then lemme know privately and I will help you. :)

  • @neckshredder1 where the fuck do i find a rom with the required files?all roms i download only contain like 20% of the files...

  • @olfan92 MAME version/rom dump compatibility is crucial. One way would be to try the MAMEUI/emuparadise combination in the description.

Also, further back in comments, I mentioned to Mistermax30 about a French site I found called gametronik that seems to be quite useful for MAME CHDs. Back then I tested Street Fighter III: New Generation files from gametronik in recent MAME and it worked perfectly.

If you get stuck on a particular CHD game then lemme know so that I can check it for you.

  • works fine will be posting this video on my website also has links to all mame stuff... checkout my youtube sasmadmorro thx

  • @SASMADMORRO Cool dude. :)

  • hmmmm, I'll try that then, cheers bro!

  • thanks a lot

  • @YTspacecadet No problemo.

  • @neckshredder1 I see, I've never used Nubula either, only MAME, but the reason I ask is because I've followed your instruction to the T but still can't run SFIII3. I'm using MAME 0.141, should I be using an older version?

    Thanks

  • @nhutchins Sorry bro, it seems that I didn't get a mail for that comment. I just noticed it then by accident.

Sounds like a compatibility problem. For current MAME, try getting the files from emuparadise. If you wanna try older MAME, then get 0.119 from the Kaillera site and get the sfiii3 files from coolrom.

  • Thank you. I can now play CarnEvil and Star Wars Arcade on my copy of MAME. My non-existent is off to you, sir.

  • @xBornWithNothingx Good stuff man, game on!

  • @neckshredder1 My non-existant "hat" by the way.

  • @xBornWithNothingx Aha yeah, I thought so. Makes more sense than a non-existent nothing.

  • it didnt work for me , i have the mameui 0.132

  • @10h41 That version is starting to get old now (MAME 0.132 was released on 8 June 2009). I would suggest maybe updating to a new version and getting the games from emuparadise.

  • @neckshredder1 I know its old but i got the latest one ( 0.141b ) but it didnt saw all of my rom games. I got directly from MAME website the .exe version and the source code ( witch i didnt knew what to do with it ) .

  • @10h41 Ah yeah, the official MAME site has the command line version. Most people are better off with a GUI like MAMEUI. Of course, as MAME progresses, some roms won't make the change from older to newer MAME and you'll have to d/l them again. MAMEUI and emuparadise seem to be a good match to help fix that problem. It's nice, too, coz emuparadise also have CHDs.

  • @neckshredder1 Thanks for the replays. I usualy found the roms i wanted ( well most of them ) the only problem i had was with the Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2 CHD . ( cvsgd rom and gdl-004 chd ; also cvs2gd and gdl-0007a) . If you try them please give me a replay and tell me how youv done it.

  • @10h41 Unfortunately, those games are not yet emulated in MAME, specifically, the naomi.c driver is still preliminary. They may be playable on Dreamcast emus, though. I haven't tried that myself since I own both CVS games on Playstation anyway.

  • @neckshredder1 i looked for the naomi.c driver but didnt found. I have them on the dreamcast emu but i thought they will look beter on mame.

  • what do u open with the mame 0.102 file 2 play games?

  • @SuperElMojado I think you might wanna watch "How to Install MAME" by Incito.

  • Where do you search for chd files...

  • @Mistermax30 I recently found a place called gametronik that seems OK. It's a French site but the files are not that hard to find - under emulation click arcade then mame chd. Alternatively you could torrent mame chds at pleasuredome. However you get them, don't forget that chds are no use without the roms.

  • @neckshredder1 Ty brotha.

  • @Mistermax30 That's OK. I did a test with the Street Fighter III: New Generation rom and chd files from gametronik. They weren't recognised in a coupla my older MAME setups but they did work fine in more recent versions.

  • neckshredder1

    Thank you

  • @MrBlAqwooD No worries mate.

  • Hey bro,can you help me download the arcade game called CarnEvil?

  • @curlybro7 There's a hint about that in the description. If you can't find a rom site that has what you want then you can torrent for it. Google "torrent downloader" and "torrent mame chd".

Btw, big fancy 3D MAME games like Carnevil need a strong system to have a chance to run well. Good luck.

  • @curlybro7 Btw, I also notice in related vids that Doommaster1994 has a vid called "Carnevil - How to get the .CHD file". The CHD is in in about 80 parts though, but it's still one way to get it.

  • I was wondring how to intall this file. It sounded too complicated but it's very simple thanks.

  • @LuisLuisLuismmmmmm Cheers! Yeah, it's easy once you know how. There just never seemed to be a quick, basic vid on YouTube to explain it before.

  • thanks im sub ing and thumbs up.

  • @kyle12367 Much appreciated, thanks mate.

  • Thanks a lot man, this is what I have been scouring the Internet for these last few weeks.

Now my games function perfectly, and all I need to do is figure out how to set up Joystick support...

  • @Fredrick2003 Cheers bro! : )

My mate, Incito, (aka Chris from MameAddicts) has some YouTube vids that can help with joystick setup. Alternatively, we have plenty of info and help available at the site, such as my MAMEFAQs in the MAME Help forum which has a section on controller setup (Q9.).

  • sf3 you can run the japan no cd version you don't need the chd for this one. it's the "sfiii3an.zip" . Nice video though!

  • @felipebrasil5 Thanks. Yeah I know, but the main point of the vid is to show newbs how to setup a CHD properly, not explain the difference between the sfiii3.zip parent rom and the Japan No CD version. That may be a topic for another vid though. ;-)

  • @neckshredder1 do you know what you really could do?! i video showing the best CHD games. i'm not finding this anywhere. I'd really be happy in watch! So it's a request partner. i have a lot of HD mame videos in my channel check it out! Bye

  • @felipebrasil5 That's an excellent idea man. Unfortunately, my current PC is too old to support good performance in a lot of CHD games. Maybe someday when I get a new rig. Oh, and I just checked out your Sunset Riders vid. Really nice!

  • @neckshredder1 thanks! why don't just put the pics and titles?! it's gonna bomb!!! plz!

  • @felipebrasil5 I'll think on it. I gotta say though, when I make vids about games I prefer to have the sound and movement of the original instead of just a slide show.

  • @neckshredder1 i understand. just put the titles in this video info by now. c'mon man please! i'll make a sunset riders speedrun this weak you put the names. Deal? :D

  • @felipebrasil5 It's hard for me to judge what are the best CHD games since I can't play that many CHD games much more demanding than 3rd Strike on my old PC without getting some degree of performance loss. The only thing I could honestly do right now is to try and somehow compile a short list based on the opinions of others. I'll see what I can do. :-)

  • @neckshredder1 great :D

  • @felipebrasil5 OK mate, here's what I decided to do. Rather than spoon feeding people a list of games, I made a little guide in my video info that shows how to get a proper list of detailed info for all the MAME CHD games at MAWS. I think that, for now, this is a much more useful solution. It can help people to help themselves.

  • @neckshredder1 :D ok, it's a good solution indeed ! hey i did it! so check the "sunset riders speedrun" and the top 30 mame games of all times. All in my channel of course. See ya partner, good job !!! :D

  • @felipebrasil5 Cheers mate! ; )

  • @neckshredder1 cheers

  • Really great vid, I personally have the full MAME set but not the full MAME CHD set due to the MASSIVE size lol. I'm sure there are plenty of great games I'm missing out on but when I get enough space I'll be sure to get them.

  • @LMA187 Hey, thanks man. Yeah, I guess you're probably already aware that there are some MAME CHD games that are not worth wasting space on - either not fully emulated yet or not able to run at a worthwhile rate of performance on current technology.

  • where do u get the chd files from

  • @ooikwf - I don't have a simple answer for that. I easily collected all the CHDs I'm mainly interested in back in the good ol' RomKeeper days before the site shut down. I guess there's a lot of Googling and torrenting going on for CHDs these days
