@JohnnyOutlaw100 he's the reason their first 2 records were so incredible...I think Rivers had a lot of help from Mr. Sharp in making every one of those songs as powerful and memorable as they have become. : )
actually im glad this doesnt have much views....only those who really know what music is and was should see. The rawness and play by heart is definitely a rarity now a days. Glad i lived the golden age of grunge and garage rock of the 90s. Im glad it has the vintage feel and look, brings back memories....forever memories
I'm pretty sure that is Jason Cropper on the left there and not Brian Bell, since he joined in 1994. And I'm pretty sure he's using that white Fender Tele he had in the picture of the Blue album studio guitars from Weezerpedia. That's Rivers red Strat before he built the blue one that he's famous for. Anyways, this is just for the gearheads out there like myself. Never have seen a video with Jason actually playing, sounds pretty great.

This song sounds so amazing live. its like the vibration of the music goes through your body and touches your soul.....wow that sounds so corny. thank god no one knows who I am.
Rivers has said that this song isn't about a girl at all. It's about his creative ideas, which is kind of sad, because I listened to this song for years thinking about a certain girl. That's still what it means to me though,
@zppbonzo well to you and me and all the listeners its about love, but Rivers, the man who wrote it, has said clearly that only in dreams is not about a girl, it's about his creative process.
@zppbonzo Well I've ONLY ever heard him say it wasn't. find proof where he talks about it being about a girl. I've also heard him say Only In Dreams was "GAY GAY GAY DISNEY GAY"
Rivers has stated that he absolutely hates Pinkerton because everyone compares their recent music to that album. I really don't understand why people say they suck now because they don't sound like they did back then. Every artist needs to grow, deal with it!
@hoobadoobler Very untrue. Every artist has the CHOICE to grow to different types of music. They don't NEED too. Weezer wanted too, and it turned out to be a mess of horrible sounding music. (imo)
@djkikis I wouldn't say its up there with Boh Rhap at all, that song is so musically complex I don't think anything will ever beat it. Only In Dreams is a pretty damn simple song.
That being said, it's one of my favorites, and most heart wrenching.
FriKIN amazing song i loved it since day one and still do....the only thing im curius about is why is there a carcommercial in the backround of the video? im surly not the only one wondering this ;)

@doomey22a Wow, WOW. PLEASE give me an example of a "crappy pop band" out there that sounds like Weezer does now. And what are you talking about, overboard on the synth? Did you...listen to Raditude? It's crunchy guitar all over. PLEASE listen to "Let it All Hang Out".
Weezer got really big, and with that success came a huge lifestyle change, and with that change came big changes in the music. It's what you have to expect. Rivers is clearly the man- let him do what he wants.
@Qriztofer There's a difference between plastic "crunchu" guitar and actual good well thought out and skillfully played guitar. And yes I did listen to Raditude; other than one or two songs its crap compared to the good classic stuff. When I say "over board with synth" I mean turd burger songs like "Can't stop partying". I mean, that song sounds like it should have been sung by Kei$ha! Rivers is good yes, but he s sold out his old fans and his sound
@doomey22a "Turd burger songS". You gave me one example (that isn't a very good one, if we're talking about "synth". Hate Make Believe if you hate "synth", though I love that album). You clearly don't see the tongue-in-cheek of "Can't Stop Partying".
Ugh. The guitar on Raditude is the same we've been getting from them since Green (in terms of TONE. "Crunch" is DESIRABLE for a band like Weezer), which is when they started recording in a decent studio. Ric Ocasek produced both.
@Aadam711 I can't believe this. Do you know where those songs actually come from? Half of Alone he wrote before the Blue Album, a few are from SftBH (I'll assume you know what that is), and almost all the rest are just songs that didn't end up on other Weezer albums. And three songs on Alone II were later released on Raditude! Basically, those albums are like...the best of Weezer b-sides.
@Qriztofer My Brain Is Working Overtime, Chess, or Lover in the snow for example have nothing to do with the "super fun party jam" thing... that's what i meant.
@Aadam711 The "super fun party jam" thing I assume you're referring to is "Can't Stop Partying". Besides the fact that you're missing the point of that song (it's pretty elementary, and incorrect, to take it for face value), the rest of Raditude is also not about the "super fun party jam" thing! Unless you want to extend that to like..."Let it All Hang Out", but that song rules.
I think someone got their Pixies songs mixed up. This sounds nothing like Gigantic. It sounds eerily similar to "I Bleed." But regardless, this is probably my favorite Weezer song ever.
I love absolutely everything about this song- the intro, the chorus, and the outro."Only in Dreams" is by far my favorite weezer song. I still get shivers down my spine when I hear it today.
what astonishes me is how Weezer came up with such an epic song (possibly their best song) so early on in the life of the band. I know Rivers had been playing music for a long time, but still ...
This song sounds NOTHING like Gigantic. If it sounded like Gigantic, the song would be shit. However, the song is good, so it borrowed little from Gigantic.
Now let's all be thankful it didn't borrow anything from Ana :P
@Beedlebub gigantic is a great song. not saying this songs a rip off at all but rivers was definitely influenced by the pixies. you should give them a chance their really good.
@carbooey : It was cited that Rivers did admit that in the early 90's he was listening to and was influenced by "cool" innovative bands, at the time, like the Pixies. If any song sounds like "Gigantic", it would have to be the weezer song "The World Has Turned and Left Me Here". One could argue that the bassline from "Only in Dreams" may have been heavily influenced by the Pixies' "Gigantic", but I don't think it sounds like they copied Kim Deal's exact bassline.
@IcyScythe : I didn't hear anything similar at all! The bass coming in first yeah, but that's it. The intros were nowhere near the same, and the distinguishable part of this song is the intro. The lyrics aren't even similar.
Not sure about that. They're both similar in both songs are structured around a relatively simple yet brilliant baseline. Melody, chorus, song layout, etc are hugely different.

Dude. Fail.

@Qriztofer My Brain Is Working Overtime, Chess, or Lover in the snow for example have nothing to do with the "super fun party jam" thing... that's what i meant.
Aadam711 1 year ago
@Aadam711 The "super fun party jam" thing I assume you're referring to is "Can't Stop Partying". Besides the fact that you're missing the point of that song (it's pretty elementary, and incorrect, to take it for face value), the rest of Raditude is also not about the "super fun party jam" thing! Unless you want to extend that to like..."Let it All Hang Out", but that song rules.

@MehdiGlz They do NOT have the same sound... Rivers doesn't even sound the same!

This is my favorite weezer song. I just did a piano cover of this song including the ending, it sounds nice on piano.

I think someone got their Pixies songs mixed up. This sounds nothing like Gigantic. It sounds eerily similar to "I Bleed." But regardless, this is probably my favorite Weezer song ever.

"the build up at the end of this song is one of the greatest musical achievement ever"
- i couldn't agree anymore....you can take it from every angle too. musically, emotionally, the performance....spot on of another level beyond most.

I know Rivers had been playing music for a long time, but still ...

this song is about being hopeless romantic.
"but when we wake it's all been erased and so it seems only in dreams..." not having the girl of your dream. makes you wish you're always asleep.

this song sounds like it borrowed a LOT from "Gigantic" by the Pixies.
Not that I blame Weezer, Pixies are amazing.

I thought the EXACT same thing

This song sounds NOTHING like Gigantic. If it sounded like Gigantic, the song would be shit. However, the song is good, so it borrowed little from Gigantic.
Now let's all be thankful it didn't borrow anything from Ana :P

@Beedlebub gigantic is a great song. not saying this songs a rip off at all but rivers was definitely influenced by the pixies. you should give them a chance their really good.
carbooey 2 years ago
@carbooey : It was cited that Rivers did admit that in the early 90's he was listening to and was influenced by "cool" innovative bands, at the time, like the Pixies. If any song sounds like "Gigantic", it would have to be the weezer song "The World Has Turned and Left Me Here". One could argue that the bassline from "Only in Dreams" may have been heavily influenced by the Pixies' "Gigantic", but I don't think it sounds like they copied Kim Deal's exact bassline.
rowidz 1 year ago
@rowidz the Tired of Sex bassline uses the exact notes as Gigantic
Ramortix 1 year ago
@IcyScythe : I didn't hear anything similar at all! The bass coming in first yeah, but that's it. The intros were nowhere near the same, and the distinguishable part of this song is the intro. The lyrics aren't even similar.
WiredAmelie 2 years ago
Not sure about that. They're both similar in both songs are structured around a relatively simple yet brilliant baseline. Melody, chorus, song layout, etc are hugely different.

I love this song, but you have to admit they completely ripped off the Pixies song I Bleed.
Look it up.

the only part of that song that sounds even slightly similar to that is the bass line, and even that is pushing it
