  • when it comes down to it id rather watch bladerunner.

  • Please don't blame William Gibson for the abortion that is the movie, Johnny Mnemonic. Frankly, if there had been a decent screenplay, which there wasn't, and decent direction, which was completely absent, it might have made a good film. Science fiction noir is always a good idea, too bad they botched it.

  • so this gibson guy is the bastard we have to thank for that piece of dren johnny mnemnonic, thanks a lot dude.

  • @wolfoshea he did write the short story "johnny mnemonic" and while there are elements taken from the story for the movie, not really apples to apples. his works supposedly had major influence on "the matrix", although, the only thing i see similar is the word matrix that was used to refer to the version of the internet described in his books

  • I read the book Neuromancer, not bad. It would have made a better movie than Johnny Mnemnonic.

  • @bigwhitehound

They're going to make a Neuromancer movie. It's gonna be made by the same guy who did Splice.

  • @iannerd97 hopefully theyll do a half way watchable job.

  • okay im gonna reviel how much of a newb i am but who is willaim gibson?

  • @wolfoshea

He's the author of "Neuromancer" and "Johnny Mnemnonic." Although the themes of cyberpunk have been around longer than the 80s, he was the one who really codified the genre, emphasizing the juxtaposition of high technology and low life in futuristic fiction.

  • LOVE William Gibson, I love this song! WOW! It's awesome.

  • im telling ya the time is coming when the human race will seal itself away behind closed doors and live only on line. i for one will be among the last who know when to unplug.

  • billy you were a prophet who tryed to warn us. if only wed listened . oh please billy show us the way back from the brink.

  • Neuromancer 1993

    ahead of its time

    Happeneing today

    goodluck world

  • @aceyorba neuromancer was written in 1984. it was WAY ahead of it's time

  • wish thay made a vid for this one.

  • This song is especially good from the album, very original.

  • this song always puts me in a trance.

  • only bad part about this album is billy with dreads. he looked like he had a squid on his head.

  • @wolfoshea i know so ugly but its still billy i love him with or without dreads

  • the cyberpunk atmosphere is present and strong, and authentic on this album, no matter what the idiot nerds say. I love this album.

  • Billy Idol is a fuckin' Genius!

  • Billy was already Cyberpunk by Rebel Yell. Just that people didn't realize it so he busted out with this, inspired and forward pushing while all the white kids jumped on the lame and regressive Grunge thing. Even U2 tried to move Rock forward.

Brave - these guys. At the core that drives/drove Cybperpunk is brave, a non-fear of pushing things forward.

Today, 2011, there's a hint that Cyberpunk is still alive but people still are pretty hokey in the world and regressive.

  • @wendileona You don't even mention the entire industrial music boom in the 90's... that shit is what keeps cyberpunk alive even today.

  • @wendileona cyberpunk is still going quite well i know of a few of us are out there still and slowly growing

  • Woot, photos of The Gibson!

  • JeloMulawin, which cave, if you dont mind me asking, have you been dwelling in? The only thing that Idol & joel share in common are their first names. Never forget that.

  • my favorite billy idol album by far! This is way better than his newest crap. This album almost seemed ahead of it's time. Especially considering the garbage that came out the same year.

  • GHOST IN THE SHELL, BRAZIL , TETSUO, BLADERUNNER, VIDEODROME , and cyberpunk.

  • trance with me

  • I'm a musician, certain kind of; I don't know what you call it, but anyway, here's the process: You get excited from some idea, and you see it as a little movie, landscapes and wall of sounds, and at the same time, your brain is releasing massive amounts of drugs, and you are channeling this whole world or little movie to words and music. I know Billy Idol got excited in the same way doing cyberpunk. This is why I love Cyberpunk album: I can totally understand it, and I can relate to that world

  • Best song ever....that's all i think.... ^^

  • billy idol...isn't that the guy who sang uptown girl?

  • @JeloMulawin billy joel sang uptown girl, billy idol sings rebel yell :)

  • Not trying to flame, but I am just curious on what those that call themselves cyberpunks.... what exactly is a cyberpunk to you? The term cyberpunk generally revolves around cybernetics and a dystopian future. What do you consider yourself?

  • @XacTR

Cyberpunk tends to embody a lot of the old punk ideas of counterculture and dissociation from "the system", but with a distinctly technological bent. There's an element of paradox in it, because they make use of the system to subvert it, with the hacker philosophy, and using the net as a place of freedom, even while it is by it's nature an artificial, societal construct.

  • @harlequin2262

Very well put sir, kudos to you!

  • @L1b3rta Indeed, well said... Also, a simple way to put it (like many do):, "High Tech, Low Life" :)

  • ni esta tan mal tu ingles igual la onda es qe si es un texto complicado independientemente del idioma...

  • I like the use of images from Bladerunner.

  • A lot of Cyberpunks hate this song... I think it's pretty good as long as you've never read the book... Kudos for trying Billy!

  • I do consider myself a cyberpunk and I love this song, but yeah I've heard the same. Most of the songs on the CD is just aweful, but this one and Shock to the System are awesome.

  • so is "Mother Dawn"

  • I agree with you. Mother Dawn reminds me of people in the fringes in Max Headroom, especially Reg, Dom, and Francis.

  • @Zeithri

I quite liked Shangri-La. They're maybe not true cyberpunk, content wise, but the sounds have a good mix. I'd use them for a Shadowrun game, easy.

  • this is terrible.

  • That's a very eloquent argument.

  • What would be cool if this whole album was remixed by KMFDM. I was never a fan of Billy Idol but I really like this whole album.

  • @poondawgy Fuck yeah.

  • @poondawgy

    That would be awesome!

  • Nice video! I'm just reading the book.
