No brakes on the chair, Hook has no safety snap, Chair is going to roll to the front of the truck bed and he will have big problems getting hook back under the chair. I use the same setup with a Bruno lift but have a short dog chain with a snap lock hook that snaps on the back bar of folded seat back to keep the hook under the chair untill I take it off. It only took once for the chair to come off for me to find a way to fix that problem
He's lucky he doesn't have to deal with the Veterans Administration. They cannot understand that not everyone wants a van. I want a lift for the back of my pickup but they are incapable of thinking outside of the box. With the VA, one method supposedly satisfies all. When it comes to gimps, the VA simply doesn't get it.
hey, im a in a wheelchair too and this video is nt only genius but also inspiring. im havin truble driving cz the parts are way outta my price range rite nw.
This is GREAT!! I applaud your efforts. Necessity is the mother of invention. To succeed at this gives hope into my life - that there IS something different rather than just what a company puts out and then says "this is all there is". I have been in a chair for 33 years. I would love to come up with a workable solution which saves room, gas, and makes a hopeful statement. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Sincerely, JAMES in San Francisco, California.
My friend Steve got Voc Rehab to pay for the commerical version of this to be installed on his truck under a camper shell that tilts up to the side while the chair is being stored and then closes. That way it can stay dry. There is a video of it on my acct. They also paid to have airbags installed so it can sit on the ground to make transfers easier. He owns a bodyshop so he had a custom paint job sprayed and some nice wheels. And thanks to Voc Rehab I have a chair accessible 2500HD pickup.
I have a commercial version of this guy's home-made wheelchair hoist for my ute (pickup trucks are called utes in Australia), but it is nowhere near as fast to load and unload. Great video!

Superb crane and ingenuity! The materials are easy to buy and build, it's the electric motor and programming that'll be the tough bit

What bits and pieces did he use to built it? Did he totally scratch build it or did he modify a truckbed crane?

The problem with commercial equipment is that it's too safe and thus SLOW!

I believe Rod uses hand controls to drive his truck, just like he does when driving a tractor (see video response above)
