In regards to the claims they aren't being allowed to film : Footage has made it onto Youtube and it's quite brutal. This brings up several major questions : How could they not get footage from ten meters ? When they could easily get close enough to provoke the sealers ? Are they simply disregarding the majority of the footage they do get, simply because it doesn't contain footage of inhumane killings or noncompliance ? They did make these noncompliance claims a week or so into the hunt.
And then there's the Farley Mowat thing. I saw the footage here on Youtube and they definitely got way too close to the sealers and were getting closer before they were intercepted. They only reason they would be that close it to attempt to intimidate the sealers. They could have filmed them without the posturing.

Blood doesn't get to splatter all over in slaughterhouses. It's directed and cleaned. You're basically asking Newfoundlanders to switch from one brutality to another simply because beef, lamb and chicken is more media friendly. Veal, spring lamb and male baby chicks are routinely killed without anyone blinking an eye so how is this different ?
Seal meat is part of their diet and it's local, requiring less fuel than importing other meat from the rest of Canada. Seal oil supplements contain a higher concentration of DPA, ten times more than fish oil supplements and the other sources for Omega 3 don't have DPA at all.

We must never become so apathetic that we feel it is not worth saying something because mass media will ignore it.
