@Karlos1760 its hard, no question but its not impossible. I dont think its better than mongol archers because you can shoot really fast with mongol bows and we will never know how fast mongols shot.
@rihardspeters Check out Kassai Lajos. He shoots 1 arrow a second (roughly). Admittedly from a light bow. But with training, anyone can achieve a quick rate of fire.
I don't believe shooting fast was that important. After all, what's the use in emptying your quiver in 5 minutes?
@daryush55 Well, In war, on a battlefield, The purpose of archers/crossbowmen was to thin the ranks or skirmish enemy forces. This not only lowered numbers of opposing troops, it also demoralized them before they could enter battle. This in turn would make it easier for your full strength troops who are anxious to go into battle to charge out and over power their enemy by either numbers, or by breaking the rest of their morale, causing them to route.
@Karlos1760 its not that hard given much practice and the right bow-mongol archers are becoming very generic for newcomers to archery-to mention a few of the really fast shooting archers were the huns, turks and parthians
@rihardspeters that takes time though, you just didn't get out there and do it. If I were to try those numbers, my hit-miss ratio would look similar to this: 0:14.
You brits are always going on about Agincourt but in the British Museum, Antiquities section, they have an old account of the battle that's kept hidden away...
It's a diary entry from a Turkish mercenary who writes " theze eeenglish are possibly more gaye than ze french.... ze helpless fallen knights are mercilessly bummed and their comrades are taunted by the eenglish who hold their can openers close to their own behinds in a threatening gesture....
@loki1066 hahah oh noes sir im so sorry! please dont hurt me! now STFU get off this page and have an orgy or what ever with the guy in that pcture of this. And dont even get the nerve to say that to me you retard, god your parent must be embaressed of you cuz your most probable a fat, spotty teenager who tries to take the piss out of the english cuz your country sucs complete balls.
@loki1066 ha ha ha ha funny as. Although i would have preferred to use an angle grinder would have been far faster. But dont think they had generators 600 years ago. Ps A Turk wouldnt know his head from his arse !!!
He's not actually shooting in the Bow, as a Medieval archer would of. He's shooting a modern style, which has a shorter draw length, and gets less power from the Bow. Most of the Bows you can see in the video are of Victorian, rather than medieval design.
Which one do you mean? The Lone Archer with the Helmet? He's not drawing in the Bow. I suggest checking out the user/englishwarbow to see what drawing in the bow is like. The English Warbow Foum as well, thats a good place to look.
@danbiazoto As far as I know the thread (Serving) is accurate. It protects the main string. I don't think he does have a metal ring on there, just a layered up section of the serving to create a knock point.
But I can't think of a source to back that up, it's just my early morning memory, so don't take it as gospel.
@APDurrant Precisely: Did they had that "layered up section" of the serving or anything else indicating the nocking point? It can be better seen on 1:05. Thanks for the answers! : )
I don't know of any evidence that they did, but I don't know of any evidence that they didn't either. The EnglishWarbow Forum would be a good place to ask if you have need of more info, sorry I can't give anything better than my opinion, which is that yes, the Bows had Serving, and a knocking mark.
@elgostine basically its a longbow used for war-people still use the term longbow with warbows since its become more of a 'leisure' activity but in context of agincourt etc. they would be called warbows and generally heavier than commercial longbows
Legolas can shoot 60 arrows in 10 seconds !

@rihardspeters 14 arrows a minute is better than the Mongol archers, I sincerely doubt you can pull that off.

@APDurrant i noticed that too, i was thinking, 'thats gotta be a longbow, nto a warbow, hes drawing it WAY to easy with that lone archer at 00:50
correct me if inm wrong longbow = draw wight <80lb's and warbow 80-100-n-something pounds though usually at max 130lb's
elgostine 1 year ago
@elgostine A Warbow IS a Longbow, but not all Longbows are Warbows. Not all medieval bows were Warbows.
A Warbow has an average draw weight of around 130 pounds, though there are of course, heavier bows.
TheGuitarhawk 10 months ago
@TheGuitarhawk imcurious at what point a longbow become a warbow, is it a particular amount of poundage? or is it another factor?
