  • LAdies & Gentlemen!Miss GRACE JONES.

PURE REAL ART.Love it so much!!

  • yeah, not like lady gaga

  • Lady GaGa kicks ass too, but Grace is in a class all of her own.

  • lady gaga sucks

  • Love you Grace. You go girl!!!

  • GRACE!..she is so Dope!......this video is a work of art...put that disclaimer on a britney Spears video...lol

  • why the crap does this say, "This video may not be suitable for minors. "?!!...

hey YouTube people - please get rid of that.

  • I agree

  • Voice-over by Ian McShane.

  • An absolute masterpiece

  • A masterpiece!

  • this song hasn't dated at all, its sounds nothing like most of the pop trash from the 80's, Grace Jones was always way ahead of her time! this video is so visually stunning and the music so hypnotic, the combination of Jean Paul Goude and Trevor Horn, and of course Grace,. is the perfect storm..

  • Grace Jones and this song.....She makes me soo proud to be a black woman who's creative and artistic.

  • Great song. Truly a cool video.

Forgive my asking, but which version of the song is this? The standard 'Radio Edit' or another one? Thanks :-)

  • Pop meets Art. The song and the video are both so classic. Still stands the test of time.

  • Is scary , isn't? But is so great! Love her!

  • I'm still trying to figure out why this vid is tagged as inappropriate for minors?

  • Citroen and Orangina ads from the '80s! Also the 1989 Bastille Day parade.

  • can't even begin to imagine what an inspiration

this woman was and still is to many people.

  • GENIUS!!

  • alot of people couldn't catch the deep message of the song it's a shame if you didn't.

  • One of the best, most endlessly inventive videos of its era. I love the way Grace crosses time and space and every cultural/ethnic boundary in this accelerated Cubist lampoonery. She is a joy to watch!

  • I really am mesmerized by this song, a mysterious, exotic, and just plain... strange tone emits from it, drawing you in, making you experience the emotion. Who agrees that Grace Jones and Annie Lennox are the music queens of the 80's?

  • I do!!!! Grace and Annie have such a presence and so much talent!

  • I agree! Such fascinating women. So inventive, creative and talented. We need more women like the now.

  • They just don't make cool vids like this any more! Surely it had to have won awards for "Most Creative". Bravo! Siate felici!

  • I can remember seeing this for the first time before school one morning when I was in the first grade. I didn't like it. I thought it was ugly. But what I did like was the very dark skinned woman called Grace Jones. I thought she was strangely beautiful and I thought that she was in some way better than most people. Now I'm an adult, almost 40 and know for sure that, yes, she IS better than most people. Long Live Queen Grace. U can keep Madonna. "And now ladies and gentleman Here's Grace!" 4:11

  • I love this shit...One of the best music videos ever made. Brilliant. Thank you for posting.

  • this is sooo 80's

  • i met trevor horn today :P

  • as did I fellow ACM'er

  • wahey!!

  • is that as in wahey guru?

    lol

  • Whoever flaged this must still be upset that the village idiot Bush is gone.

The age of censorship in done. Welcome to the 21st Century....

  • as an american, amen to the flight of the village idiot. Long live america, and the real values that we stand for, not these overblown, greedy, moronic republicans that tried so hard to destroy all we are, all we stand for. Long live Grace, for being brilliant, gender and race bending, and great as hell!

  • Everyone thinks the 60's was the biggest

    counterculture influence in modern

history, but they neglect people like

Grace Jones from the 80's that were

in the pop scene, but true counterculture

    icons of their day!

  • def! i think over time, in the future people will rediscover grace jones, in a similiar awe as we have now. she's so interesting, like a mitochondria of the 80s

  • Why was this video flagged?!

  • i thnk because of its 'racial' tones. the blackface, etc etc

  • Or the overt sexuality too maybe?

  • thats some crazy shit!!

  • She is a very exotic women, but that´s great!

  • The first song by grace Jones that I've ever heard and still love it and I'm only 18.

  • Burn in hell the bastard who declared this video "not suitable for minors"... Fucking racist!

  • strictly brilliant; love and respect. Check out many of missy elliotts videos, I swear the influence of grace jones is huge.

  • im in love with this song and im in love with grace :)

  • Oh wow one little nude clip somebody freaked out and flaged it. That totaly sucks. I like the music though.

  • can anyone tell me why this video is not suitable for minors? i don´t get it...

  • Good for you, whateverhte. I think "Slave" is a work of astonishing playfulness and generosity, both the video and the performance in it by Grace J. Too bad so much of the wit and pop references are lost on today's viewers. I can't imagine a work quite like it being made today, when everything's gotta be so heavyhanded.

  • crazy! feels sad, scary, fun, beautiful. & only 1985 yet this is more groundbreaking than any video Michael Jackson did or any Gondry or Fincher videos. what is wrong with people that they remember the Sledgehammer video (a year later, at that!) over this one?? I suppose this must not have been played as much on TV.. even today Grace Jones is pretty much forgotten except among conoisseurs of 80s club culture/fashion/etc. her music + whole aesthetic is massively influential though! (new fan here)

  • The one who did this video clip is simply a genius... it's so timeless! And indeed it's so surreal.

  • I totally agree with you!!!!

  • I don't think its timeless. It seems dated. But Grace's energy and soul that inspire it certainly are eternal.

  • It's a french fellow called Jean-Paul Goude. You should check out some of his work. Incroyable!!

  • Honestly, this is complicated... This track is called: Ladies and Gentlemen: Miss Grace Jones on the album Slave To The Rhythm. The song "Slave to the Rhythm" on the album is more rock genre. I'm all confused. I have the CD. Honestly, I like this version, yet like the album title song more...

  • i do not know why this has been flgged an excellent song and video true open mindedness

  • Incredibly surreal clip - but the song's good as is the Citroen CX within...

  • This was Trevor Horne at his best ... Form a production point of view he's never been surpassed

  • THE most amazing song and video combo EVER! So brilliant.

  • Very nice video/music clip! its 1985?

  • What an amazing and faszinating woman ! She's got a new album out now with great songs, too. This song here could definitely have been arranged in 2008. Grace is timeless in here musically style, a lady from outta space ...

  • mayday is a great singer

  • Genius.

  • She has a new album out and is touring next year, cannot wait! She's amazing

  • Why is this tagged inappropriate for children? It contains culture and that's good for them.

  • the woman is GENIUS (To The Rythm and then some !!!)

  • No, Trevor Horne's the genius

  • I always thought Grace Jones had great style and most importantly a great vocalist. I always wonder why she didn't make it big with selling records.Maybe she just lacked ambition and drive to do that. When people think of Grace Jones today the first thing that comes to mind is the tall beautiful model, not really a singer that sold albums as a career. More of a "presence" or a personality.

  • She did, she sold millions of albums, like many acts who are successful but just don't seem so high profile in today's 'plastic pop' world.

  • u dont know what ur talking about.

  • The artistic imagery of this awesome video is totally outstanding... despite the fact that some moron(s)flagged this "chef-d'oeuvre" of modern culture!

  • erm why is this tagged as inappropriate for minors?

  • because Grace Jones eats children.

  • I wonder if she's still a slave to the rythm, where are you Grace?........Wonderful song.

  • She was on UK's 'Later... with Jools Holland ' not long ago :)

  • Bomb Squad Material!

  • The GREATEST video ever made!!

    True contemporary art!!

  • anyone know who played drums on this?

  • A man called Andy Richards is credited as drummer for the intire album (Wikipedia)

  • thanks man. he's got a great feel.

  • E.U.'s Ju Ju House on drums and percussion.

  • Why is this video tagged!?!

  • This thing gave me a good contemporary inspiration, videoorientated. Very Styliish, thanks for your work.

  • This is an awesome video. i think grace jones just does videos better than any other artist from the 80s. if you like this you should check out her new vid corporate cannibal. music video genius.

  • she was weird good but weird

  • The interesting thing about this PERFECT video is that it's really more of a compilation. The fast moving colorful footage of people is from French TV commercials that Jean Paul Goude did for Kodak & Lee Cooper Jeans. There's the commercial Grace did for French automaker Citroen. The scenes of Grace at the end in the big polka-dotted skirt is from her video for the song "Living My Life" & there are various other clips from her 'One Man Show' & photos of grace throughout her career.

  • I personally think that Grace Jones is a very very very strange lady but having said all that this is one of the best pop songs of the 1980's IMO

  • you can't odds it.

  • this is far more than a simple video clip.

It's a kind of modern (video) art.

    great

  • i still love it to this day , though i was at 4th year 1998, i dont understand y you have to rate this ... this is 2008 love all grace

  • Bless you grace,.... the'll never be another GJ

  • this is an homage not just to Grace Jones, but her one-time lover, Jean-Paul Goude, who's brilliant by himself . This video is art, it commands your attention. Amazing.

  • yes i agree , this is one of the best music videos ever made

  • I dont know waht it is about Grace Jones that gets me all hot and sweaty. She just exudes sexuality.

  • silly question buts is that pharelle at 1.15 dont know how old he is ?

  • Considering these are French commercials I'd say likely not.

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST POP VIDEOS

  • ABSOLUTLY!

  • WOOOP ORANGINA!

  • who the hell flagged this classic as -not suitable for minors- f... when this was a hit in 1985 I was 15 and I'm still one of the good guys.... this vid is my favoured and started my ambitions in making musicvideos. this

    one is soooooooooo great!!!

  • Those opening chords are heavenly...But I'm afraid for me they are too under-used in the songs opening-the bits in between the chorus are too much like Peter Gabriel for me...but those chords are wonderfully dreamy...

  • GENIUS. Grace was and is on another level! And to think about some of these artists out now who think they are avant garde. LOL

  • This is REAL LIVE ART unlike this boring crap artists put out today that only puts me to SLEEP.

  • lol same with me von949. I used to watch this when i was around 5-7 years old...never thought anything of it, now I finally watch it again at 20 and I'm like GEEZ they let me watch this??? lol well wasn't that bad but still.

  • What is this film clip about? Whats its meaning?

  • im a slave to the rhythm..its cost me nearly my life..but the music mooves me..god bless the discos and nightclubs...

  • Gives me rush everytime i watch and listen.

    P.S I am a slave to the rhythm :]

  • Damn. I used to watch this when I was little. Didnt notice that it was rated R though. LOL

  • lets bow our heads and say Grace

  • classic video. I remember watching this on MTV before going to school that morning. Probably was in 10th grade. And I thought "wow that was different". Still is. Still on the edge.

  • This is so surreal and high art. I love all the "hoppy" dancers that inhabbit this video!

  • priceless art!!!

  • i think it should have been flagged because you can see her breasts and breasts make baby jesus cry. im gonna hav to say ten hail marys now otherwise ill go to hell

  • I can't believe this video has been flagged as "not suitable for minors". It's a wonderful piece of art... ... and Michelangelo's David is naked, too.

  • fantastic video. She's a bit scary though ain't she?

  • I'm pretty sure that almost no new footage was shot to make this video. It's compiled from a bunch of different commercials the director had made with Grace.

  • so abstract...grace jones=amazing

Music video reminds me of this acid trip I once had while taking a vicodin

  • keep it up

  • Brilliant!! dont make videos or artist like this any more...shame

  • One of my favorite vids of all time!

  • mine too, singbluesilver

  • love this song

  • I wish I was a child in France in the 1980's

  • This video is a work of art, how long must it have taken to set up and film each segment? The piece at 3:17 alone must have taken some setting up.

  • I think this is one of the greatest artistic efforts ever created. Visually it is a masterpiece. Im glad others realize the effort it must have taken to complete the video. And the song is of course just as fabulous.

  • I absolutely agree!

  • Trevor Horn is the shiznit.

  • Grace Jones and Trevor Horn-perfect music and video! Is Seal "Crazy" with him too?

  • Love the song and the random bizarreness of the video! Reminds me of the one by New Order to their "True Faith" video.

  • I quite agree.

I've had exactly the same thought.

  • brilliant tune & one of the most entertaining videos ever. Seen so many many times in the past, but never becomes boring.

    thx for sharing

  • lindo lindo lindo desculpe mas simplesmente sem palavras ♥

  • good video, brill beat, makes me happy

  • Weird video!!

  • who is the prude who rated it X?

  • I think it's because there's clips of nudity. :]

  • Classic!!!!!!!!

  • grace jones is scary

  • An incredible example of 1980's genius!! What a body and face...Grace is fierce!! I am living for this. Makes me think of AREA NYC circa 1985!! Thank u for this

  • Wonderful play on the meaning of gender and race!!! Voodoo elements are scary!

  • La Jones is one of the best contemporary artists ever. Where is she now?

  • whats ending part music called?

  • Its from Swan Lake!

  • THANKS

  • grace's best video. i wish today they would produce more clips like this today!

  • Grace Jones is wonderful. She's one of the best artists I've ever seen.

But - what's the guy talking about? Does anyone know the text?

  • hes talkin bout rhythm and what he thinks it represents.

  • this girl has the best body i ever seen, and this video rocks, nice fashion girl !!!

  • I have a question. Why do half wits have the right to "flag" a video like this as being "adult" only? Maybe there should be a YouTube option to "opt out" of the adult advisory, because most times I have seen it used in YouTube and been ludicrous.

  • good call, i agree

  • I love this song, and GJ is one of the best!

  • Ahead of her time!

She broke artistic barriers, gender barriers, whoa..she remains undefinable. Makes Madonna look like a Girl Scout.

    Bizaare and totally captivating!

  • Perfect description!! She's a wonder and a beauty!!

  • OMG Is Grace Jones Real????Amazing.............

  • Wild and crazy Grace left us with a memorable song and video. Thanks Grace!

  • 80s music and video is so much more cutting edge and artistic than the dreck they bother playing on MTV + VH1 anymore in between useless "reality" crap TV shows . . .

  • Individualistic...rare these days

  • SMETTI DI PIANGERE, hi baby, E' SOLO IL RITMO...

    Oltreuomoplus

    From Italy

  • I remember seeing this video a lot when I was a little kid over at my friends house...the part at 2:32 always kinda weirded me out as the nudity was a lot more visible...not trying to sound like a pedophile lol.

  • Excellent song, beautiful voice

  • How did this video get "not suitable for minors"? tagged onto it - how does one recommend to untag it?

  • someone's just trying to protect us from Grace Jones.

    Thank God.

  • L`Internationale!

  • the producer of this song himself did a memorable song "Video killed the Radio Star"

  • I was only 13 when I first seen this video and heard the song and now at 33 I'm still loving it.Having a goosebumpy day anyway today.:-)THANK YOU!!!

  • Trevor Horn produced this.

The man is an absolute genius.

  • Film music fans please note the tiny homage

to the theme music for Get Carter at 3.35 into

    the music video. Listen closely!

This is the best song Grace Jones did and

takes me back to the 80s in a good way, unlike

    the fashions of the time...

  • Amazonian androgyne and artist extraordinaire! Grace sends the future forth in the guise of a sports car (from her mouth because her words ARE the future). We are slaves to illusion of continuous motion, compulsive, trendy change. In the finality we assassinate and discard our ego identification and recognize our oneness.

  • Blimey!

  • a citroen? sports car?

  • Washington DC go-go band EU keeping the beat flowin in the background of the video.

  • I miss Grace Jones and her weirdness. The women these days are just lame and so cookie cutter.

  • is this video just snippets of ads put together?

  • This is miles better than the music videos by today's female soloists.
