I always saw this song as being about groupies---girls who follow rock bands and singers and, er, live to do FAVOURS for them. The girl in the song supports herself by conning money out of her parents...("Pa send me money now...")no doubt pretending to need it for college. But the song says otherwise both lyrically and musicaly.
@pallypoo123 Yeah, the one note solo! Love it. Same with parts of the solos on "Like a Hurricane". Neil's guitar lifts you way up, then holds you there with one note, like blowing under a feather to hold it up, then he allows you to come back down before taking you somewhere else.
Some Stupid Jerk emails to me that I am little-schooled in the ways of Rock. Just because I say that Neil's final lead on Cinnamon Girl is probably the best lead in a single song in Rock. I have listened to Rock all my life and are better-schooled in it than you are, whoever you are. I love Jimi Hendrix more than I can say, I met him when I was a child. But, as to a lead for a single song, the Cinnamon Girl lead at the end of the song is the best one, and I stand by that. :/
@54markl Great music, great guitar... but "Best guitar solo in The Universe"...? Dude, you've had VERY LITTLE exposure to rock music, very very little. What about Clapton, Hendrix, Duane Allman, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, and etc...???
@kewlbreez77 Pipsqueak, I was listening to Rock 'n Roll long before you were born. Ilove your precious Hendrix too, he will always be the Greatest Guitarist of Rock. But can't I even complement Neil without you jumping down my throat? The Other guitarists you listed are not as good as Neil, sorry. Jimmy Page is vastly overrated by the Xs!
@54markl I doubt you were listening to music all that long before me, especially as you don't know when I 1st was listening to music (it was the early 60's). Well now, you OBVIOUSLY know very little about playing the guitar, as Neil Young is a good guitarist, but does not come close to the ones I mentioned. Also, Page is an excellent guitarist, rated 3rd in Rolling Stone's poll of Top 100 guitarists all time. Hendrix, Clapton & Page rated 1,2,3; obviously Page is not overrated...
@kewlbreez77 Why does it have to be a competition you fool,Just stick to reading your magazines because if we go off them where do you rank as a guitarist ?
@54markl --- you're just an ignoramus about guitar playing; nuff said! Duane Allman is rated higher, was a better guitarist. As far as solos go the guitarists I mentioned have much better ones, incl'g Blackmore. Your opinion of Cinnamon Girl solo is yours, but that solo doesnt compare, good as it is, to the work of the others no way, no how. I saw Townsend, Page, Howe, Santana & many others in concert, including Neil, and he was not better than the others, good, very good, but not better
@kewlbreez77 Do you really have to base everything on ratings? Why not go by your own feelings toward music. Ratings are a person or group of people who like to hear themselves talk!
@54markl Neil is just underrated™. I love his music. Have for some time too. So, I agree with you to that point. All the people you mentioned in your post have their own little flavor that they left on the world of rock.
@54markl page is a studio guitarist, sounds nothing live than on albums where they can take re-takes, now listen to Alvin Lee of Ten Years After live at Woodstock, now he rocked great live
@capodencia85 i didnt mean jimmy page like that, i think he is one of the great guitarists ever born, what i meant is how perfect studio music is, live they play the way they feel and i remember him with that bow playin his guitar, i meant no disrespect for jimmy page, just that i have been a ten years after fan so long.
@54markl Oh, I'm sorry, I thought for a moment you said Jimmy page was overrated, because if you had ever listened to his playing you would think quite differently.
@EpicProductions2000 You have to listen to everything to really grasp why he is a great riffmaster, from his pre Zep yrs. to his post Zep. yrs. Jimmy Page was so much more than just Led Zep even though that is a big part of him.
@54markl Man I love Neil Young. He's one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived, but Jimmy Page is plain and simply Jesus Christ with a Les Paul and that's it. NO ONE but Hendrix is in Page's league, EVER.
is my username an ode to this song or a reference to the fact that a knockoff cereal brand box was in front of me when i made my username? YOU decide :D

Gibberish, prefacing a storm of caterwauling, (un)harmonica screeching and high-pitched whining, more worthy of a transgendered trollop pushed into a gutter after swallowing gallons of cum from multiple wayward gentlemen enjoying a night of depraved abandon in several of the seedier establishments on the dark outskirts of the shining city on the hill.

Thank you Neil for putting the song on youtube. And if everyone just ignores. "F**** bastard" he will spread his seeds of hatred elsewhere .

One note solo. Only NY could pull it off. Plus the "wild thing" ending, followed by the timeless coda.

Because he is a fuckin' bastard.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Gibberish, prefacing a storm of caterwauling, (un)harmonica screeching and high-pitched whining, more worthy of a transgendered trollop pushed into a gutter after swallowing gallons of cum from multiple wayward gentlemen enjoying a night of depraved abandon in several of the seedier establishments on the dark outskirts of the shining city on the hill.
James!! Scuttle your way to me quickly now, man!
Bag that cat Nelly Young tonight. Here's a stout bat. Beat the daylights out of her!

The song makes total sense get deep, who is your cinnamon girl ,your first love when you rely feel love not lust of a young man, your passage into man hood .
to grow up is to try to think beyond your age. for example why do people cut there hair not to conform but to excell think beyond the words look for the meaning .
songs are short the brillants is in making it work in 3 min!!!!
