  • this is fantastic i am from Recife in Brazil south america and i love this keyboard...

  • how do you setup the motif to input 3 - 4?

  • can you do it through usb how?

  • ty great vid i really needed this one!!!!

  • will logic pro remember the sound that you played in the motif? like if you closed logic and open it back up will logic be able to know the exact sound you used last time so you can always open your track as long as you have your motif?

  • thanks for the great video,

Would i be able to do this simply by connecting the motif via USB? or do I still need the midi interface?

  • man i just made this and everything is ok but when i make a midi composition and i press the play button i see the DB metter moving but i cant hear what i write in the piano roll and i need help ASAP because im moving from FL STUDIO to LOGIC

  • @ElBengie what are you using to enter your midi notes into Logic?

  • @UnbornEntertainment im using the motif i can hear the piano for example and i can play it but when i record it in the piano roll when i play it to quantize or maybe change the duration of the note i cant hear anything man

  • @UnbornEntertainment but its just with the motif sounds because when i open an instrument track with the logic instruments i can touch a note in the piano roll and i can hear it i wanna do the same with the motif sounds , that when i touch a note with the mouse i can hear the sound of the motif..MAYBE YOU CANT DO THIS WITH LOGIC BUT I SEE IN UR VIDEO THAT WHEN U RECORDED THE PIANO AND U PLAY IT AGAIN U CAN HEAR WHAT IS WRITEN IN THE PIANO ROLL u got me?

  • @UnbornEntertainment sorry for making u read a lot hahaha I SOLVED IT! i had to set the midi options in a window named "ARRANGE WINDOW" or somethin like that now the issue is that when i play the piano sounds like it have flanger or phaser in the sound , but when i play it in the piano roll sounds GREAT without that problem so i dnt care if it sounds like got flanger because is just when i play the motif keys if i play it in the piano roll theres no flanger lol

  • @UnbornEntertainment i mean environment window

  • thanx tim ! like it

  • I am still rubbish at this.when i clicked the pattern....i saw 16 tracks not 30+ and each one has piano sound pretty much.

I wish I can call you to put me through completely.....from the back of the keyboard. am I going to put my midi cable inside IN and OUT?

Please give me your number to my e mail address bolajikeys@yahoo.co.uk

Let me know when I can call.

    Thanks

  • Hello,I could not hook up my motif es 6 to logic. i tried to follow your structure but there is no sound.I really need to get this can you help.I think there is problem in the session that you said you need to be on empty track on the motif which i could not do.

please help. how do i do the empty track before the opening of the logic according to your instruction

    Thanks

  • @BOLAJIPIANO When I said empty track, I really meant empty pattern. On my Motif, there are 31 pre-installed patterns. I click the pattern button then scroll to pattern 33 which is empty. I use that pattern to start adding the instruments I want to use.

  • shaunzilla, if nothing is showing up in logic, it sounds like your connections may not be right. Explain to me how you have your motif connected to logic.

  • @UnbornEntertainment i have my usb hook up into my motif xs6 and the other end of the usb is in my computer..... i did the utilty steps you've showd but nothing is showing in logic but gm device and other objects....

  • @UnbornEntertainment.....is your motif connected to your computer through MLAN?

  • I DID ALL THE STEPS ON THE MOTIF BUT ITS NOT SHOWING UP IN LOGIC LIKE YOUR DID ITS NOT SHOWING UP AT ALL

  • Any Idea for Roland RD-700 how to connect to Midi in Logic

  • @N3M22 I'm afraid you got me there, but it can't be too much different than any other midi device.

  • You can get it to bounce your motif sounds by selecting real time instead of offline on your bounce menu.

  • @GWhite765 Thanks! I will have to try that.

  • @UnbornEntertainment

Did it work out for ya?

  • @GWhite765 Yes, it did. Thanks!

  • hey this is a great video, I appreciate you taking the time to show this tutorial. All the other videos out there show a process that is a damn headache. I like this process better, very simple and fast if you got all the connections set-up right. Again thanks for the Help!

  • @TheRealFAME2010 Thanks! I'm glad it helped.

  • @UnbornEntertainment... Thanks for the tutorial really helped... 1 question are the steps the same if i was using usb to host... 2 How do I assign the tracks you were talking about..

  • @itsurboyp I'm not sure with the USB. As for the assigning the tracks, please reference the timeline so I can be more accurate in my answer. I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial.

  • I'm trying to do the same thing with the Motif Rack. After watching this video and carefully following the instructions, I have gotten the motif rack sounds to play though Logic while I'm actually playing (as midi). However, after recording, there are no playback sounds coming through Logic Pro. I'm certain that I have chosen the right inputs and outputs because I hear the sounds while I play. I'm using a Presonus Firebox as my interface, and an MPK as my controller.

  • @dawgie1234 All you have to do is create a new audio track, set the inputs of that track to wherever you have your audio from your Motif coming in and record. Once that's done, you should be recording the audio coming from your motif.

  • @UnbornEntertainment

Thanks, man. I really appreciate the help. One more question, I was trying to record as MIDI- is there any way to get MIDI data to play back instead of audio? And If not, is there a way to format the audio so that if I change the tempo, the audio is still on time, and is there a way to quantize the audio?

Sorry for all the questions- I'm a "MIDI" man- audio's really not my thing.

    Thanks again.

  • @dawgie1234 I'm not sure what you're asking. When the playhead passes over the midi notes, it's telling Logic to trigger those sounds from your Motif rack. Midi has no audio qualities. As for making your making your audio stay the same while you adjust the tempo, the answer is yes. For your last question about quantizing audio, the answer is yes, but I don't think it is something I would do. Maybe a re part here and there, but that's it. I hope this helped.

  • @UnbornEntertainment I guess this brings me back to the original question. After performing this task in the video, I get the MIDI notes to show up and I can hear myself play and record, but no sound exists on playback. I believe that what you were suggesting was to add an 'audio' track. I did that, but I'd prefer MIDI. Is there a solution that involves MIDI instead of audio? Thanks.

  • @dawgie1234 Sounds like you have everything setup correctly if you're getting the midi notes and you hear the sounds as you play them in. The problem has to be with the output channels of the midi or aux. Check them out.

  • @UnbornEntertainment The only way I'm able to hear playback is when I record as audio using the advice you gave me earlier. I would love to be able to emulate what you did, and basically use the sounds from the Motif as a MIDI track. All of the ins and outs seem to be set correctly. Any ideas? Maybe there's a setting to be changed within Logic or something, or maybe my Motif Rack is not hooked up correctly. I'm using MIDI Thru instead of Midi out. Is this what you did? If so, you make a change?

  • Hey man - thanks for a very clean and instructional video. I have Logic, and the MOtif too. However, I also have a m audio axiom. I want to be able to control the sounds of the motif through the axiom (record & play) instead of playing the motif. How do I set this up?

  • @rjk1482 When I'm playing midi notes into Logic, I can use either my Motif or Axiom 61 midi controller. Both will trigger the sound of the Motif if I have the correct track selected. My Motif is connected to my Digidesign midi I/O and that is connected to my Digi 002R using standard midi cables. The Axiom 61 is connected via midi cable out. I hope this helps.

  • So how do you get rid of that god awfull latency in logic when hooking up external midi????

  • oh ok. What audio interface are you using to get the motif audio into logic. I have pro tools 8 and a digi 003 but due to all the difficulties With that I have switched to Logic. I wa thinking of getting the apogee duet as my interface but I don't remember it having midi connections . Is it possible to do this using USB for the midi?

  • @chriscash1982 I am using the Digi 002 Rack. My Motif is connected to the Digi 002 with a midi cable. The main L&R on the back of the Motif is running into 3&4 on the back of the Digi 002. You can assign this to any channel you want though. On the Apogee statement, I'd save my money if I were you. You have the right equipment. You just need to get it all working. Hope this helps!

  • so are your actual motif sounds going into logic or are you just using the motif as a midi controller?

  • @chriscash1982 I am using the Motif as a sound module. When I play my Motif, it places midi notes inside of Logic. Logic then reads the midi notes and triggers the sounds I have in the Motif. Think of it this way...When you load a virtual instrument onto a track in Logic, it places midi notes on the track as you play. Logic reads those notes and tell the virtual instrument to play said notes. That's exactly what my Motif is doing. I hope this makes sense.

  • hey i'm having problems and its not working for me i have a motif 6

  • @09tenor What's happening? You have to be more specific.

  • @09tenor i dont have the option use input 3-4 i just have one and two. i see the signal but no response/

  • @09tenor That's an easy one! Just set your inputs to 1 & 2 instead of 3 & 4. Let me know if that works for you.

    Unborn Ent.

  • @UnbornEntertainment stil didnt work!

  • can i use the knobs from my motif es 6 in logic to controll my eq s ???

  • Great video! I have logic 9 and I have the motif xs running through my firewire audio interface via MLAN connection. Everything worked as I followed your directions. My question is regarding bouncing Midi. Once I perform on the tracks and try to bounce into mp3, the only think that bounce is the audio content. What step am I missing to bounce the project? When i am using logics library, the midi files bounce without an issue. Thanks for your help.

  • @nimbusxxl I was surprised when I tried to bounce my first project too. All you have to do is create a new audio track, set the inputs of that track to wherever you have your audio from your Motif coming in and record. Once that's done, you should be recording the audio coming from your motif.

  • @UnbornEntertainment You are a genius! I just subscribed! I am checking out the rest of your uploads. Thanks again ... I am ready to get to work!

  • @ UnbornEntertainment. I have logic 8. I cant hear my motif threw logic. I dont know where 2 go for my ports and idk what to set it on as far as stereo or what my inputs should be. Can u advise? Thanks.

  • hey tim....thanks for posting this video. i followed your directions to the tee. im just having one problem....i dont hear the playback. i get sound when im recording but when i play it back i dont hear anything. and the channel meter is showing that there is sound but im not getting anything. if you can help me out on that, i would greatly appreciate it.

  • @salsaboricua two questions: 1.) Did you raise the volume fader on the aux track, and 2.) How is your Motif connected to Logic?

  • @UnbornEntertainment well i have a midi/audio interface. a yamaha i88x. so i hooked up my board using a midi cable and stereo L/R. I have a motif ES8. to asnwer your first question, yes i did have the fader up on the aux and unmuted. could it have something to do with me having logic 8 and not logic 9???

  • Thanks enfermo420. You're right! I should have said "pattern" mode instead of "patch mode."

  • Nice video. I believe instead of hitting what you call "patch" on the motif I think you mean "pattern".

"You know how you set up the Motif to start making a beat with the 16 empty tracks?"

    -Thats Pattern Mode

    Small detail correction.

  • Hey Tim,

You're video's great! I'm just having one little problem. I own a Motif XS7, wired it through an M-audio 410 (in & out). Getting a signal but no sounds from the motif.

I followed your instructions till 'empty track' and 'the patch button'. By track, do you mean 'Song' and by patch button do you mean 'Voice'?

My head is practically swimming frantically with setting up midi! Any help would be most generously appreciated!

    Thanks!

  • I'm assuming the Motif XS 7 works the same way as the ES. You know how you set up the Motif to start making a beat with the 16 empty tracks? That's the screen you should be seeing. Then go to each track and change it from the default piano to something you want to use in your song. Link each one of those tracks as instructed in the video. MAKE SURE THE VOLUME ON THE AUX TRACK IS SET TO ZERO or higher so you can hear it. If you still can't get it, shoot me your email addy, and I will email my #.

  • Thanks again....i'm using logic pro 9 and it has tons of virtual instruments already along with garageband...

  • I came to that conclusion after many hours of banging my head....you just confirmed it thats alot i needed that...I guess i gotta work with what i got for awhile...until i can upgrade....i used this and sflogicninja tuts which are good to then i said well maybe im just tooo dumb!!!!..lol..but thanks again for confirming....i'll get it down...

  • No problem. I used to think that too. I know how it is when you're just learning about all this music stuff. If I can be of further assistance just let me know. By the way, there are tons of free and cheap virtual instruments out there to hold you over until you can start affording the expensive stuff. Just search Google for them.

    Unborn!

  • You switched the sounds on the Motif itself, can't you choose the motif sounds in Logic and have it change the program on the motif?

  • I'm not sure. I've never tried that. If you find out, please let me know.

  • nice tutorial....one question i dont have a motiff but a oxygen 49 the silver one and everything shows up the 16 channels but i still cant get any sound...i see the response when i hit various chord but no sound what am i doing wrong...any help much appreciated

  • The Oxygen 8 is a midi controller. Midi controllers have no sound built in. They just send note information telling the virtual or real instrument what to play. When you see a person playing a midi keyboard the sound isn't really coming from the midi keyboard, it's coming from something else. The midi keyboard is only triggering the sounds of the instrument it is hooked up to. When you see the chords, it's telling you that the notes are going in fine, but they need to trigger something.

  • in the owners manual it says that the XS can control logic pro 7.. do you know if has been changed with the 1.55 update?

  • I'm afraid I can't help you with that one. Sorry!

  • off course 5 stars

  • thx 4 making this vid i will try tommorow was looking so long for some tutrials

  • Glad to be of help. I come to Youtube to help me out so much, I thought I should give back. Let me know if you have any questions. Please don't forget to rate the video.

  • Yeah it works thanks man your awsome

  • Glad you got it to work!

  • ok im gonna try it out and ill tell u if it works or not

  • what did you do on the motif to switch to channel 2

  • You should be in pattern mode when you are using the Motif. When you see the 16 tracks, just move to track 2 and pick the next instrument you want to play. When you've played the 2nd instrument, move on to the next track and so on. I hope this helps. If not, let me know.
