It seems silly to me to have a top 10 best virtual console list when half of it is obviously going to be the Mario and Zelda games that everyone already knows about. There are plenty of other really good games available in the virtual console that never get the attention they deserve. I'd love to see a top 10 forgotten or unknown gems list for the virtual console.

@MrGameguy001 It's hard to say if those are good choices based solely on the knowledge that you don't like Chrono Trigger. You may not like Final Fantasy III if you don't like Chrono Trigger since they are somewhat similar in gameplay. But yeah, all three games are all considered quite good so chances are higher that you will like them than not.
@Nintendoggy That's what 50hz does. It runs the games slower than they originally were in Japan/North America unless properly optimized by the developers.

@demillara92310 Yes. I've never done it personally, but apparently if you get Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles off the VC, you can virtually do the lock-on thing to enable Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

15 years ago when i was 9 i always begged my mom and dad if i could have an nes. But they told me i should by a snes or sega genisis since its 16 bit and probaly has a better gaming library so i agreed. And for my birthday they got me a sega genisis also with sonic 1 and 2. After the first level of sonic 1 i fell in love with the game and beat both of them. But in 2003 it broke and my best known gaming world was crushed. Know i hear about the wiii and want to buy it. does it have sonic 1 and 2?
@maskedhero21 Yes, it does! The Xbox 360 and PS3 also have Sonic 1 & 2 available in several forms, including the awesome Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (if you are considering those systems too).
@juantg2003 Majora's Mask wasn't out at the time voting was taken for this video. Also, while I'd normally say that I was simply quoting when I said Super Mario RPG was overrated, I do actually agree with that. I really see nothing about it that I can prefer over Paper Mario, although maybe I just need to give it another shot.

As for Super Mario RPG, I understand if people prefer Paper Mario over SM:RPG, but (I'm aware you were quoting) I don't think it deserves to be called overrated, it deserves most of the praise it gets, as the music, graphics, story, and gameplay overall were pretty innovative back in 1996, and the game has aged pretty well. Still, nice video!
I never could understand why I get bored of some new games but zelda never dies. I've beaten it a billion times now but I still have the urge to play it.
@xHAZELRAHx Not sure what to tell you on the used front. I try to avoid used consoles though since I personally feel there's a bit too much risk involved. As for the Wii internal memory, you will probably need an SD card if you plan on buying more than a couple of VC games.
@xHAZELRAHx That's tough to say, especially since the Wii U doesn't have a price yet. At this point, if I were you I might just get the more bang for your buck with the Wii. The Wii is pretty cheap now and comes with a lot of extra stuff, it can play Gamecube discs and use Gamecube controllers, and there's of course the decent library of Virtual Console and Wiiware games (neither of which anybody knows for sure will carry over to the Wii U).
@SurveyForGold You can also download music for free and put them on your mp3 player. Or you could download movies for free on a pc and hook it up to a big screen. Doesn't mean you should. This isn't even factoring convenience in.
@KidPrince31 The screen saying to use a classic controller does seem to appear on many games (I think the SNES and N64 only?), even though you can use the Gamecube controller instead.

@levillageglobal Well, if I remember right, the only Final Fantasies on the VC at the time of making this video was the first one (if even that) and Chrono Trigger wasn't out yet either. Metroid is generally considered to be inferior to Super Metroid, which I'm surprised didn't end up on the list.

@ThePokekid78 Are you planning on only using the 500 or are you going to add more? I'd say get Super Mario Bros. 3 probably if you only have the 500. If you're adding points, Chrono Trigger is never a bad buy, and Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask are all worthy Zeldas to try out.

@ThePokekid78 If you have a 3DS or are planning on getting one, you might want to buy Lylat Wars and Ocarina on that. Otherwise, I would probably go with that option personally, since I love all three of those games. A Link to the Past I own on GBA, Chrono Trigger I own on the DS, and Super Mario World I own on the GBA, but I personally never got into any of them much, although many people love all of them. No matter which option you go with, you really should try all of these eventually.
@MattNOYB Well, I will probably get a 3DS in the future, but I still need to be able to afford a Wii U! The games I listed were only examples - what I really meant was: what would YOU personally do with, say, 2500 points? (Sorry I worded it badly) Would you get the three I mentioned, or others (ie Majoras Mask, Secret of Mana (is SoM any good, since I don't know much about it?))
Also, is the DS Chrono Trigger worth the extra money?
@ThePokekid78 It all depends on what your kind of game is. Would a time limit (albeit one you can kinda control) annoy you in an adventure game like Majora? Then you probably won't like it. Do you like action RPGs that have battles similar to the top-down Zelda games? If not, Secret of Mana may not be for you. So it really all depends. Personally, with 2500 points I'd go with Ocarina, Paper Mario, and SMB3, but that's just me. As for CTDS: it's very similar to the SNES one, so go on price.

I'll also look further into Majora, since everyone seems to think it's great, but obviously Ocarina is more famous! @ApharmdStriker Well, I guess I just don't know much about emulation, then. I figured if something could run a port, it could run an emulation of the game. But nevertheless, there's still the big hurdle of pure space before even looking at the power of the Wii so my point still has some merit.
@DrogoFarias Playstation games will never appear on the Virtual Console because Sony is a direct competitor to Nintendo. I believe the Crash Bandicoot PS1 games are available on both the PS3 and PS1 for download, if you have either of those.
But, in my opinion, I don't like any Paper Mario, I advise you to get Zelda's Ocarina Of Time or Majora's Mask (If you aready own Ocarina Of Time) than Paper Mario.

I like all of These, except for all The Mario Games. I really Love Mario, but there are some Games, Way better than some Mario Games on The List. What about: contra 3, castlevania, super metroid, or any sonic Game?
@StickyTV96 This list basically reflects majority opinion and the Mario games are always generally considered some of the greatest games ever; at least the greatest platformers ever. As for Super Metroid, I'm not sure why that isn't on the list. It kinda surprised me too.
is it something wrong with my Wii? i live in Europe and when i buy a NES game on the Virtual Console, i start playing the game i bought, and when i start Playing, the music is fucking horrible, for example Castlevania stage 1 music (vampire killer) is slower thatn the real one, this happens to many other NES titles i buy the music is slowed down, sounds like it' slow-motion,somebody tell me
@kimflodin Slowed down music? Is the game otherwise functional? I don't know exactly how it works as I don't live in Europe, but are you sure it's not just a 50hz game running at, well, 50hz? I don't believe games were optimized in the NES days so every game will sound slowed down compared to North American versions. (exceptions are Import games like Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa).
@MattNOYB yes everything is alright with the game xept the music,i bought around 20 other NES games and music is alright,so why not Castlevania?i got Castlevania 1 on a real NES and that one is normal,but the NA is normal and EU(some of them) is slowed down?,that's really decieving,but NA Wii and EU is pretty much the same and works the same and so is the real NES ( duh ),maybe it's a programming Error so i will leave my Wii where i bought it and see if they can fix it,my TV runs on 60HZ however

@life09m Castlevania? The first one for NES? It's considered by many a good game, and some a great game, but it's not a well loved game by too many people compared to all of these other VC games. This list was accumulated from a bunch of peoples votes so it's not much of a surprise Castlevania isn't here.
It's interesting that most of these games are from Nintendo systems. I wonder if there's a connection between having a Nintendo system previously and currently owning a wii. I think these games are classics but I had a NES, SNES and a 64 so maybe my opinion is biased. Anyone know of some other classics available on the VC that aren't from Nintendo systems? I'm looking to check out other systems and looking for some statrting points.
@achievement84 Great games on the other VC systems? A few examples of games I know/have heard are great: the Metal Slug games on Neo Geo, the Last Ninja games on C64, the Sonic games on the Genesis, the Streets of Rage games on the Genesis, the Samurai Shodown games on Neo Geo, the Fantasy Zone games on the Master System, the Bonk games on the Turbografx-16, & Gate of Thunder on the TG-16. There should be something in here that appeals to you.
i have to disagree on super mario world because of this. i think the classical controller is like a gamecube controller but the controls on super mario world on a gamecube controller are horrible. Y is run and b is jump. And i think A is the spin jump that can kill enemies. I find super mario bros on VC harder than the original because poor controls
@highoffasharpies The Gamecube controller's button setup on the game is not what most would consider an ideal way to play Super Mario World. However, are you sure the Classic Controller has an odd setup? I was pretty sure it had the same setup as the SNES controller had.

I got legend of Zelda a link to the past on VC but it won't work properly. When i walk out the house at the beginning of the game, it stops and won't let me get any further.
@NPStudios303 That's weird, I've never heard of that before. What exactly do you mean by "won't let me get any further"? Does the screen freeze and you have to restart?
@MattNOYB Well, when I walk out of the house, a small menu pops up asking me if I want to continue game or save and quit. Save and quit does exactly what it says but continue game doesn't do anything. it still gets stuck on the menu. I swear, i'm not pressing any buttons, it does it every time. (I'm using a GameCube controller if that makes a difference.)
@NPStudios303 Not sure I can help you, sadly. You could go over to vc-forums . com where there are lots of people who use the VC a lot so they might know about this. Your other option would be contacting Nintendo directly I guess.
Agreed but probably never gonna happen :(, pull your fingers out of your ass konami and release this underrated gem, it's still one of the best platofmers to date imo with its unique gameplay and sparkster damn well deserves to have his popularity raised, I want to see him take on sonic and mario in a fighting game.

Paper mario over mario 64 made me laugh, And super mario world is the best game ever, not just on virtual console. Also zelda games are not as fun as you say they are.
@ioport This is not my personal list. It compiled from many votes, of which I was just one person. It just so happened that the final list mainly has Nintendo console games. And I want to point out that Shining Force is a Genesis game so the Genesis actually is here.
@Corrol132 You'll have to either use an N64 or 360 to get your Banjo-Kazooie fix since it's not coming. Mircrosoft owns Rare now and they can't put their games on any console not made by Microsoft. The Donkey Kong Country games have come on the VC simply because Nintendo owns the rights to all Donkey Kong games and not Rare.
@gamerpuppeteer I have no idea why they don't put Donkey Kong 64 up, as it should not be too hard to replace that Jet Pac game with something else. For some reason, all of the N64 games always seem to take way too long.
@NintendoNerdo Nah, I have Kirby Super Star Ultra for the DS. It's just about the same thing though. As for favorite Kirby game, that title for me would go to Kirby 64 but that might just be nostalgia as it's the first Kirby I ever played.

@ThePokekid78 If you have a 3DS or are planning on getting one, you might want to buy Lylat Wars and Ocarina on that. Otherwise, I would probably go with that option personally, since I love all three of those games. A Link to the Past I own on GBA, Chrono Trigger I own on the DS, and Super Mario World I own on the GBA, but I personally never got into any of them much, although many people love all of them. No matter which option you go with, you really should try all of these eventually.

@MattNOYB Well, I will probably get a 3DS in the future, but I still need to be able to afford a Wii U! The games I listed were only examples - what I really meant was: what would YOU personally do with, say, 2500 points? (Sorry I worded it badly) Would you get the three I mentioned, or others (ie Majoras Mask, Secret of Mana (is SoM any good, since I don't know much about it?))
Also, is the DS Chrono Trigger worth the extra money?

@ThePokekid78 It all depends on what your kind of game is. Would a time limit (albeit one you can kinda control) annoy you in an adventure game like Majora? Then you probably won't like it. Do you like action RPGs that have battles similar to the top-down Zelda games? If not, Secret of Mana may not be for you. So it really all depends. Personally, with 2500 points I'd go with Ocarina, Paper Mario, and SMB3, but that's just me. As for CTDS: it's very similar to the SNES one, so go on price.

@MattNOYB Thanks for all your help! I'll probably go with SMB3 and the VC Chrono Trigger, but I don't know much about Paper Mario (never really looked at them.) I'll also look further into Majora, since everyone seems to think it's great, but obviously Ocarina is more famous! Maybe I will also get Secret of Mana if I like Chrono Trigger (as I believe they are quite similar.) Thanks again

@ApharmdStriker Well, I guess I just don't know much about emulation, then. I figured if something could run a port, it could run an emulation of the game. But nevertheless, there's still the big hurdle of pure space before even looking at the power of the Wii so my point still has some merit.

@DrogoFarias Playstation games will never appear on the Virtual Console because Sony is a direct competitor to Nintendo. I believe the Crash Bandicoot PS1 games are available on both the PS3 and PS1 for download, if you have either of those.

@StickyTV96 This list basically reflects majority opinion and the Mario games are always generally considered some of the greatest games ever; at least the greatest platformers ever. As for Super Metroid, I'm not sure why that isn't on the list. It kinda surprised me too.

is it something wrong with my Wii? i live in Europe and when i buy a NES game on the Virtual Console, i start playing the game i bought, and when i start Playing, the music is fucking horrible, for example Castlevania stage 1 music (vampire killer) is slower thatn the real one, this happens to many other NES titles i buy the music is slowed down, sounds like it' slow-motion,somebody tell me

@kimflodin Slowed down music? Is the game otherwise functional? I don't know exactly how it works as I don't live in Europe, but are you sure it's not just a 50hz game running at, well, 50hz? I don't believe games were optimized in the NES days so every game will sound slowed down compared to North American versions. (exceptions are Import games like Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa).

@MattNOYB yes everything is alright with the game xept the music,i bought around 20 other NES games and music is alright,so why not Castlevania?i got Castlevania 1 on a real NES and that one is normal,but the NA is normal and EU(some of them) is slowed down?,that's really decieving,but NA Wii and EU is pretty much the same and works the same and so is the real NES ( duh ),maybe it's a programming Error so i will leave my Wii where i bought it and see if they can fix it,my TV runs on 60HZ however

@SOUTHWESTENZ i don't find SNES too fun because USA have some titles that we don't,take EarthBound for example,but i've played it on an emulator, it wasn't really that good,from scale 1 to 10 i'd give it a 7 and Japan got some games that USA dosen't, since the video game was invented in Germany, whe should have every game ever existed!(not E.T. on atari,we don't deserve it! @life09m Castlevania? The first one for NES? It's considered by many a good game, and some a great game, but it's not a well loved game by too many people compared to all of these other VC games. This list was accumulated from a bunch of peoples votes so it's not much of a surprise Castlevania isn't here.

It's interesting that most of these games are from Nintendo systems. I wonder if there's a connection between having a Nintendo system previously and currently owning a wii. I think these games are classics but I had a NES, SNES and a 64 so maybe my opinion is biased. Anyone know of some other classics available on the VC that aren't from Nintendo systems? I'm looking to check out other systems and looking for some statrting points.

A few examples of games I know/have heard are great: the Metal Slug games on Neo Geo, the Last Ninja games on C64, the Sonic games on the Genesis, the Streets of Rage games on the Genesis, the Samurai Shodown games on Neo Geo, the Fantasy Zone games on the Master System, the Bonk games on the Turbografx-16, & Gate of Thunder on the TG-16. There should be something in here that appeals to you.

i have to disagree on super mario world because of this. i think the classical controller is like a gamecube controller but the controls on super mario world on a gamecube controller are horrible. Y is run and b is jump. And i think A is the spin jump that can kill enemies. I find super mario bros on VC harder than the original because poor controls

@highoffasharpies The Gamecube controller's button setup on the game is not what most would consider an ideal way to play Super Mario World. However, are you sure the Classic Controller has an odd setup? I was pretty sure it had the same setup as the SNES controller had.

I got legend of Zelda a link to the past on VC but it won't work properly. When i walk out the house at the beginning of the game, it stops and won't let me get any further.

@MattNOYB Well, when I walk out of the house, a small menu pops up asking me if I want to continue game or save and quit. Save and quit does exactly what it says but continue game doesn't do anything. it still gets stuck on the menu. I swear, i'm not pressing any buttons, it does it every time. (I'm using a GameCube controller if that makes a difference.)

@Corrol132 You'll have to either use an N64 or 360 to get your Banjo-Kazooie fix since it's not coming. Mircrosoft owns Rare now and they can't put their games on any console not made by Microsoft. The Donkey Kong Country games have come on the VC simply because Nintendo owns the rights to all Donkey Kong games and not Rare.
