In the modern game this would be not out as the bowler entered his delivery stride. Under the laws he would only be allowed to stop his delivery. If it continued the batsman could be penalised 5 runs but not run out.

Not out. The rule says that if the bowler is in his delivery stride as Kapil was then he cannot run out the batsman at the popping crease and so a dead ball must be declared.
as per rules, the ball is in action from the moment the bowler starts his run up until the ball is returned to the keeper or the bowler or umpire. a run out can happen even during the delivery stride. So this out is completely legal.
as per logic, if this is not out, the non-striker need not wait in the crease, instead wait at the middle length of the pitch when the bowler start his run up, for a very easy single.
This is why they changed the mankad rule! If not i can just stand 1 meter awaf from the grease,giving me a unfair advantage...so the run out was fine....just like stumping...you move out of your grease,and you dont connect,stumped...

I can't agree on cricket being heavily biased in favour of batsman though. Being an opener myself, wickets are becoming like minefields in england lately in favour of the bowlers and you always see pie chuckers getting wickets.

thats y they changed the rule because it conflicted with the other (original) rule which im informing u about that the ball is dead until the bowler has firstly completed his action and then released the ball but wat im saying should happen is the umpire should warn them and if he does it over and over the umpire should call a run short because technically wen the ball was released and the ball is "in play" a full run was not completed as he was not behind the line when the ball was delivered..

very true, What kirsten did was as disgraceful as the underarm incident. Kapil warned him thrice not to start the run up before the bowling action is over, still he did that for fourth time. Kapil had no other choice but to appeal. even more disgraceful was the way kirsten reacted, as if it was Kapils mistake. Lucky for him that it was kapil on the other side who warned him thrice. If it was an aus bowler, he wud have got out on the first instance itself, without any warning

Not out. The rule says that if the bowler is in his delivery stride as Kapil was then he cannot run out the batsman at the popping crease and so a dead ball must be declared.

as per rules, the ball is in action from the moment the bowler starts his run up until the ball is returned to the keeper or the bowler or umpire. a run out can happen even during the delivery stride. So this out is completely legal.
as per logic, if this is not out, the non-striker need not wait in the crease, instead wait at the middle length of the pitch when the bowler start his run up, for a very easy single.

Typical indian! will do anything to try n win even if it is unsportsman like... he was 6 inches out of the crease... find me a ball where that doesnt happen these days please...everyone does it! its like the fielders walking in with the bowler.. well technically once the bowler is in his stride the field isn't suppose to change but its just one of those things.. yea the non striker coulda timed it a lil better but way to take it to far kapil! doosh

but u should imagine the case when the batsman go and start his run once the bowler start his run up, by the time the bowling action is completed, the batsman can almost reach midway making easy singles,
