@idiotkrati I think you need to learn from "mother science" if you have to ask silly questions like that. A solvent is any liquid that dissolves a certain compound you may be using, it the compound is water soluble then its a perfect and safe solvent.

@atourdeforce There are no silly questions, just silly answers. You are wrong, in recrystallization the solvent must dissolve the impure compound at a temperature above STP. At room temperature/STP the solvent must not dissolve the compound so it can be crystallized.
