"The Caucasians of the last civilization in the West—the ancestors of Caucasians—were the Ancient Greek race; not modern Greeks, but the race of the Ancient Greeks. There are very few people of this race. I’ve found that they are the white Indians of India. There are very few of them." (《Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Europe》)
"In Western society, among the unearthed relics of ancient Greek culture, the [swastika] symbol was also discovered. In fact, in the remote ages before Noah’s Flood, people also worshipped Buddha. At the time of the Flood, some people of ancient Greek ancestry living in western Asia and the region to the southwest of the Himalayas survived. They were then called “Brahmans,” and they became today’s White Indians." (《ESSENTIALS FOR FURTHER ADVANCEMENT》)-(《The Buddha Fa and Buddhism 》)
@chapsroc by the way, what has any of this video got to do with you?
Your not greek

thank god buddha was indian because a chinese buddha would be some dickhead with no balls!!
@jimbob202019 , only a fucktard shit eating "greek buddhist-shish" would copy retard Christian saying like "thank god ..."
You're mentally retarded. Now insert your head back in your ass! LOL! It was a cheap entertainment to make fun of your "greek buddhist-shish" retardation. Now that I have turned you into a crazy talking shits, it's no longer fund, for me. :( eewww! You're a crazy pile shits! LOL!
@jimbob202019 , I hope some one would put a straight jacket on you soon. You're worse than what I thought! I thought you were just stupid, YOU'RE ACTUALLY CRAZY!
And no, Islam has no contribution to the spreading of Buddhism. I won't bore any one with the details, but Islam (and Judaism, Christianity, three peas of the same pod) are extension of Greek paganism, for all three religions rely on "raw power" and fears to control their adherents -- the extension of the "Alpha-male" raw power abstracts. A very intolerant religion.
Buddhism is a non-violent teaching, its concept of "Enlightenment" is the very essence of what separates Man from beasts.
judaism is not anything like buddhism.... even though i like jews!
islam is the biggest load of BULLSHIT I HAVE EVER READ INTO!! infact when i read your quarn and your holy scripts Irritate me because the words KILL,CUTTING OFF HEADS & LIMBS OF HUMANS AND FUCKING OTHER MENS CAPTIVE WIFES!!!
@chapsroc CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW THIS PART FROM THE QURAN SOUNDS LIKE BUDDHISM!!!
Quran (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]... but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."
ohhhhhhhhhh BUT heres a few more that im sure makes mohammed like buddha!
@jimbob202019 , those are the sane shits in the Old Testament, a.k.a. the Five Books of Moses. Judaism is the root of both Christianity and Islam. Both Christian Bible and Koran contain the Five Books of Moses plus some others Jewish Scriptures from Judaism. Get educated fucktard. LOL!
@jimbob202019 , LOL, do you know how to read? (Oh, I forgot, you don't know how to read, my bad! LOL) I wrote both the Christianity and Islam copied Jewish Scriptures, esp. The Five Books of Moses. In fact, they all claim to worship the same God. Get educated fucktard! LOL!
Learn how to read, then insert your head back in your ass! LOL!
@chapsroc ohhhh yeah it clearly states COPIED JEWISH SCRIPTURES in your last writen statement!
total loser!!
also zues is based on indra and its all over youtube YOU NOBHEAD!!
Go on type into youtube "INDRA" ZUES, most of the greek gods are from hinduism from the acient vadic culture of the indo greeks, and the vadic culture is far older then any greek god!
@jimbob202019 , LOL, so you're functionally illiterate "greek buddhist-shiss" who graduated from the school YOUTUBE. LMAO!
And when you sticked your head inside your ass this time, your "insight" (ahem, your shits) now tells that it is Hinduism that influenced greek horse shits. LMAO!
Was that your shitty vision, or are you now on cracks? LOL!
@chapsroc it stated that over 30 million chinese people drink their own urine
chinese people eat rats, cats, dogs, & ohh yeah ANIMAL PENIS!!! ohh wait but you also eat insects and human male sperm in your medicines!
And your trying to call greeks (SHIT)... mate you EAT PENIS, DRINK HUMAN URINE,EAT CATS DOGS & RATS & MONKEY BRAINS AND MALE HUMAN SEMEN AND YOUR CALLING.. US SHIT!!! wow
the only thing the chinese invented in history was silk & the wheelbarrow oh & gun powder! LOSERS
@chapsroc You have this really crazy thing about eating shit dont you!! its almost like its part of your daily life style... to eat shit!!!
But then agian chinese people are vermin that feed off animals that eat shit so i guess thats why you like to eat shit and bave in it, must be why us europerans think chinese stink!!
@jimbob202019 , wow, you could cut and part of a sentence, now that better than what I expected from a fucktard "greek buddhist-shish" LOL.
Why don't you cut and paste the whole sentence, and read it out loud three times, then tell me who were copying what? Or just insert your head back in your ass! LOL!
Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not."
As you can see this is only a fraction of these animals words but history states that they ripped the shit out of every buddhist, hindu & christian that they met! yet this muslim (chapsroc) trys to make everyone THINK buddhism is like islam.. TOTAL LIE!!!!!!!
Zeus is Greek pagan deity, it's concept is pretty much like animals, "the most powerful" alpha-male, full stop.
Hercules, the son of Zeus, the strongest man who got his gene from Zeus - again, the concept of alpha-male animal.
Narcissus - Greek mythological idiot from whose name the term narcissism was derived. The Chinese has name for these kinds of idiots - "Frog at the bottom of a well"
The Buddha meditated to obtain Enlightenment - self reliance or seek wisdom from the cosmos, not from Man.
Socrates relied on his students and "professional woman" to obtain wisdom --> lazy, fuzzy no definitive thoughts.
Aristotle discredited Plato's metaphysical conjectures; Karl Popper discredited Aristotle's philosophies, he called both Plato and Aristotle "false prophets" whose ideologies gave rise to tyrannical dictatorship.
islam has nothing to do with buddhist culture of hindu culture because it was the hindus and buddhist and greeks that created the very first university on thsi PLANET was created in Taxila and was RIPPED APART BY THE MUSLIM INVASION!! (((FACT))))
hindus buddhist greeks worked hard to start education on science,Philosophy, maths lol you name they did and it was ripped apart and all their information was stolen and burnt and the they was all killed!
@jimbob202019 muslims translated aristotle and plato and adapted greek thought into islamic culture and that is how greek thought spread into europe after the dark ages. . i thought that was pretty common knowledge. . regarding buddhism i was thinking about non duality and transendental thought of mystics from both of those religions.
@jimbob202019 , on Islam, math and science, you're simply a blind man talking. The numbers 1,2,3,4, is Arabic number, Algebra was developed by the Muslims, etc. The Arab Muslims had many contributions to the developments of mathematics and sciences.
On the flip side of your trifles that you might have overlooked, was the fact that Aristotle's concept of "higher cause" was adapted by both the Catholic and Muslim scholars to fit the mold of the "most high" God. High, higher...God! Get it?
@chapsroc OMFG YOU ARE THE BIGGEST BULLSHITTER I HAVE EVER SEEN!!
its alread historical fact the the numbers 0123456789 10 was created by hindus and called "HINDU NUMERAL SYSTEM" it was then taught to the aarab and they then pushed it into europe renameing it ARABIC NUMERAL SYSTEM!!
dont fucking try that shit with me that is already proven history & it was used via maths and messureing in the indus valley all the way to vadic times, islam was not even invented at the time of vadic
the very fucking greek god zues is "INDRA" from the vadic part of hinduism & for a muslim to say that he had something to do with teachings is a total joke!
Shall i tell you how stupid you are? check up the "haith codex" your quarn is a total fabrication of a kings perverted words and NOT the words of "MOHAMMED" the original quarn was a GROUP of books it was then stolen by a king and writen for muslims to fight for his lust & greed
@jimbob202019 , you don't know how to read, never mind about history, greek shits, or Indian philosophies.
Learn how to read, and re-read what I wrote, use your peanut size retarded brain to ask some body to help you understand what I wrote. Than come back here and I'll quize your fucktard narcissistic ignorant blobs of greek horse shit in your head.
You greek horse shits type of ignorant blobs will take 100 re-incarnations to understand what Buddha was saying... Debate with that dumbass!
@jimbob202019 , LMAO! Your ignorance and stupidity are astounding! You were wrong at every turn, and lied each time you opened your mouth.
No you didn't called yourself a "Greek Buddhist", I called you that TO INSULT YOU. Since you're too stupid to understand, I'll explain the insult to you. This term is an oxymoron, it's like saying "redneck sophist." It's a contradiction in terms, stupid!
@chapsroc lol its easy for you to say wrong but how about telling me why im wrong?
you know why you cant because your the one full of shit, i will happy enough debate you but you wont give me anything accept HAHA YOUR WRONG!!! just like a fucking child! im calling you out and telling you once agian WHY AM I WRONG?
i like how pissed off you are but will that change the fact that you have not given me fuck all
@opensourcebuddhism, you're way off base, your fallacy is the using "form", a particular form, stone sculpture, to make a leap of conjecture of "Buddhism is influenced by Greeks xyz" because of "similarities" in stone sculptures that in most of cases ARE NOT SIMILAR AT ALL.
1. Stupid Greek philosophies, yeah, are about forms, imo, stupid!
2. Have u seen Thai or Chinese Buddha? They look like their people.
@jimbob202019 , you mind is really messed up. Greeks are really retards, ahem, I meant, their "thinkings" were like an unbridled horses but with their eyes still covered, each took off in the a particular direction and just ran until it crush into a wall or over a clip... The very opposite of Hinduism/Veda.
Zeus is more akin to the retard "God" concept of Judaism, than either of Hinduism or Veda tradition. The difference is Zeus is about raw power and none of the intellects or compassion...
Jesus did not survive the crucifixion. He was buried in approximately 75# of spices and fragrant herbs as was the custom of that day. His feet were ripped to shreds and tendons destroyed by the spikes and his side, when pierced by the Roman centurion gushed water and blood-what they looked for to assure the crucified was truly expired. He was seen, fully recovered, but still with all scars in hands and feet, 3 days later by his Mother and disciples, and continually in the next 40 days by 500+ o
Jesus was NOT a Buddhist monk. Jesus was Jewish and descended through the tribe of Judah, which includes King David, Solomon, Ruth (who was David's great grandmother).
Where are the events recorded leading up to the founder's life and his authority that he is the one to be followed? I just cannot base my soul on something a finite human laid out on the fifth century BC. There is just not enough here that convinces me to adhere to what is basically human logic.
my dear friend jesus was a buddhist monk learnt from worlds first knowledge university nalanda in india.jesus gone back to preach buddhism where first greeks came to know of this new religion.jesus's kabar is in kasmir as after crucifixion he survived it ,after recovering from coma he came back to kashmir as kashmiri's called him a prophet came from far country to cure us.see bbc documentary on lost years of jesus.we r denied to know wats fact in history, now think...
Stoicism puts Buddhism to shame in terms of rational thought, no wonder Buddhists would like to believe that they have something to do with Stoic ideas. Zeno, the founder of Stoicism, did not starve himself to death like Buddha in order to reach some imaginary state of 'enlightenment', his concern was the real world. Stoicism is a real-world philosophy for practically-minded people... If you believe in Buddhist concepts like reincarnation/rebirth and karma, then Stoicism is not for you!
Guys it's like a small 5 year old child if someone says : my culture is older than yours ... I think almost it's a complex of inferiority.. greek, indian dudes etc. relax . this is about greek philosophy and buddhism . Proud and arrogant have here not a place. Buddhism is a very interesting religion just as ancient Platonism
@megasayajinsongoku99 Agreed! The other guy started this...I finished it. But I agree with you. It is childish to argue 'firsts" and they all belong to Sumer in any case.
@opensourcebuddhism yes indeed. Let's u talk better about religions and philosophy. I suggest you 're a Buddhist . In which school of Buddhism are you belong ? Theravada ? Zen ? I apologize for my poor english, I'm not an english native speaker :D
@opensourcebuddhism Sumer? Missed by 7000 years, not even close. Gobekli Tepe. Architecture, organized religion, symbolic communication, sophisticated sculpture and Bas relief of some kind of communication form. Sophisticated civil authority( at least enough to build the place). And by inference an established spiritual view of the world no doubt including taboo or law.
@awakeningnow Well...I am well aware of human habitation prior to Sumer, but these are the people who gave the world writing, numbers, the wheel. The old wall of Jericho goes back to the 9th millenium BCE as well. Can we call these settlements "civilizations"? I don't really think so. To each his own...but philosophy per se as we know it, started with the peeps of Sumer...any evidence of writing at Gobekli Tepe? In any case, it is only 4000 years older than Sumer, not 7000
@awakeningnow Sumer was first developing writing in about 6 to 6.5 thousand years ago but really hit it's height around 5 to 5.5 thousand years ago. So 7000 is off by a bit but not 3000 years. However we are quibbling on that. If civilization is defined as having civil authority then Gobekli Tepe had to have that and some sort of symbolic or written communication, math, in order to keep track of the labor force, materials and design. Could not be done without it. Try it you'll see.
All religions are like different whores, whom each look different yet all are of the same lot. These days people go from one religion to another fucking these whores who give their patrons STDs . Spiritually Transmitted Diseases, E.G>.Secondhand spirituality, trapped perception, negation of Self, etc....
@opensourcebuddhism No record of ‘philosophical’ exchange btw Greece & 'China' in the axial age where different schools of thoughts also flourished in 'China'. Legends had it that Christian apostles (blend of Greek-Roman-Hebrew tradition) did interact with Han people. Other ‘indirect’ contact was the spread of gnostic Christianity (Nestorianism) to Tang (635AD), then came the Jesuits … Chinese philosophy did maintain its relative independent identity since recorded history in Shang (1562BC).
@litsyt True, I know of no record of Greek/Chinese philosophical exchange in the axial age, at the latest, Kublai Khan's mother was a Nestorian Christian, so by the 13th century it was there, though I believe, small communities in larger cities I would imagine. Christians often spread to those urban areas first (Wayne Meeks: the First Urban Christians deciphers all this. Also, Jewish tribes have been found among the East Asian lands as well.
@uoitofsogroj In fact, the west of China was called 'Xi-yu' (西域) in the old days, meaning 'places in the west where the "Huns" lived' which might probably well extend to Greece (NOT " = " Greece) throught the 'silk road'. While 'Yun-nan' (雲南) means 'south' (南) of the 'clouds' (雲) which might reach down to part of Viet-nam (越南) ('nam' means 'south') & Thailand. Yes, those silk did reach Egypt & Greece via middle East if not directly from old China ... Omg, you got some good music in your channel.
@uoitofsogroj By DNA tracking the Japanese established that they are the descendents of the Hokaido Ainu tribe in Jomon period (12000BC), which had indeed close connections with the Chinese & Korean by blood, as well as with the Andes American, & they are all/mainly mongoloids. I am aware that there are many different legends & myths regarding the origins of the Japanese people though. Check out the vids on 'Looking for the genetic roots of the Japanese' on Youtube for more info ...
@uoitofsogroj Very interesting interpretation. Yet when did the term appear in Greek? Would it be some recent 'transliteration' & hence - 'nice coincidence' ? Historians noted that the Japanese called their country 大和 (Dai-wo = land of many mountains) in the past & it is the Chinese who called it Nip-pon (transliteration of 日本= where the sun (日) came from(本)). Yes people in the past suspected that the Japanese have some caucasian bloodline though DNA evidence seems to tell the contrary.
I will make myself loughable but I am persuaded that in the ancient greek language is coded the whole human history
Where to begin? Look at the sky, its name is Uranus, the milkway is called Galaxy, the stars Planets, which means "moving", the name of sun is Helios, the name of earth Gaia, even you have interest in etymoligy i can pm you,
An example how primitive english is, they call Aster stars but call Astronomy not Staronomy
Our universe is called Cosmos, ok? In Greek Cosmos means Ornament, that means that the Universe is something beautiful, an englishman however uses the world Cosmos without knowing its deep meaning and its etymology
@uoitofsogroj I guess modern English is neither superior nor inferior, only that it is relatively a juvenile in the history of European languages, owing much of its terminology to those 'grande' cultures that came before. Actually, it is not uncommon for ancient people to believe that their own language did come from 'heaven', being coded with all sorts of secret of the universe, e.g. the Hebrew language. Yes, Greek is really interesting & in fact I am trying to learn it by myself of late ...
@opensourcebuddhism Thx for the reply. Yes, many controversies may be avoided if one makes it clear from the start the (possible) timeline of exchange between Greek philosophy and Buddhism as well as the shared cultural background between Greece and India say from the perspective of history of language and mythology (which is the ‘mother of philosophy’). Some people even consider Greece and India as part of the same 'western' tradition/ cultural complex versus that of the east. Interesting.
@litsyt I am among those counting India/Greece as part of a great "western" heritage, at least from Ireland to Nepal, and as you say, in terms of language/myth, the "mother of philosophy" as you put it. Of course, the Abrahamic intrusion (Judaism,Chrisianity,Islam) has altered the old "Aryan" religions, but in essence I see communication, trade, shared philosophies up until the Christian era and somewhat beyond even that. Sharing of ideas with China would take place centuries later in fact
Buddhism was spread to Whole Asia as well as to Greece by Kashmiri Pundits, philosophers from all over the world use to vist Kashmir to Learn as it was the Hub of Sipirituality.
@megasayajinsongoku99 Kashmiri Pandits are Original natives of Kashmir, who are Hindu Brahmins, whole Kashmir was Hindu at one stage till they gave refugee to Muslims and destruction of Islam ruined Kashmir and Original Kashmiri pandits have been suffering since then.
Recently in 1990 Muslims killed, looted and made them flee at night time from kashmir and are now settled all over the world and in refugee camps in India, they have 100% literacy rate. I send you 2 videos to look at.
WOW thank you for this post it is so hard to convience people that Buddhism and Greek and Roman have influnce each other for long time now. I believe that all creed rally all truth are correct.
@adiostraitorobama Of course, because it was historically hidden for centuries! The terms Greco-Buddhism (or Graeco-Buddhism) and Greco-Buddhist art are globally well- known nowadays.
Buddhism in Greek was only possible after it took root in India and spread westward, ie., unlikely to be earlier than Plato. As such, should there be echoes of Indian philosophical ideas in earlier Greek thoughts, they should be 'vedic' in origin instead of 'buddhist' - yes they have a lot in common. Furthermore, the two cultures are of the same language family (Indo-european) such that they could have shared many common ideas from the start. Like to see more explorations in these areas. Thx.
@litsyt Buddha, just like Confucius, was born well after ancient pre-Socratic philosophers Thales and Anaximander of Miletus. Greek philosophy and religion is at least as old as Indian. There is no proof of Buddhist influence on Greece or Egypt. In fact there is proof of Greek influence on Buddhist art (first anthropomorphic statues of Buddha were made in Hellenistic style, in Indo-Greek kingdoms).
@Seventh7Art Of course there are historical proofs that Buddhist and Asian philosophies influenced Greece! For example, look for information about Pyrrho, a Greek philosopher and Pyrrhonism. In Wikipedia we can read: "Pyrrho, along with Anaxarchus, travelled with Alexander the Great on his exploration of the East, and studied under the Gymnosophists in India and the Magi in Persia", etc. The influence travelled both sides. :-)
@pdronma These are anecdotes really... Just like the ones that say that Greeks learnt from Egyptian priests. In reality, the Greeks could not understand Egyptian and their view on Egypt was superficial and often misleading.
@Seventh7Art From what you are saying I can guess that you have never studied Plato. Anyhow, there are plenty of historical evidences about all these. Better search further and you will be deeply surprised of what you are going to learn..... ;-)
Κι εφόσον απ' ότι φαίνεται είσαι Έλληνας, είναι ντροπή να είσαι τόσο απληροφόρητος για την ιστορική μας παράδοση! Χαιρετώ και υποκλίνομαι. :-)
@pdronma Greeks did influence India. The other way around did not happen much really. Plato must be studied in comparison to Egyptian manuscripts which prove that Greeks were wrong about much that they thought of Egypt. Διαβασε λιγο Not Out of Africa, White Athena, Black Athena Revisited και θα καταλαβεις τι εννοω.
@Seventh7Art The whole planet is a web of mutual influences! No philosophy, religion or civilization was self-sown or self-luminous. I am happy that I am Greek but at the same time I deeply dislike fanaticism and intolerance. Moreover, I am very sorry (and I don’t want to offend you) but I do not consider the books you suggest as valuable, historical resources.
@Seventh7Art Hello my friend . I'm a Greek just as you. Look we must be objektive and wise with our opinion.
In my opinion it's closemindet if one try to convince someone that his culture is better than the others. This has nothing to do with philosophy. The essence of philosophy itself is against those bullshit. If you look closely you will see that the chinese philosophy is at least so old as the greek philosophy. Look at the hundred schools of Thought !
@Seventh7Art We know also many wise men in the Anatolia realm. We know of the egyptian ''philosophy '', they called it Sebayt (example maxims of Ptahotep 2300 BC , Instructions to Kagemni) , we know of the babylonian dialoque of pessimism 1000 BC ) ..
Almost all cultures had a thinking similar to the greek philosophia , infact almost all cultures had philosophy in their way of thinking and compehend the world
@megasayajinsongoku99 Philosophy is something linked with humans all over the world. I was talking about famous, influential philosophy. In that regard, Greek philosophy was more well known and influential in the West.
@Seventh7Art Every human philosophy is linked with human all over the world. And yes the Western Wolrlds had been influnced more from the ancient greek and latin philosopy than from the Asian philosphy, although the greek philosophy had been also influenced from the anatolic philosophy and knowledge. In the modern world the influence of Asian philosophy in the West is greater as also the influence of Europen philosophy in the East ..
@Seventh7Art As for the Greek influence on Buddhist art you 're right, although the influence is never only from one side. In terms of philosophy although we have the phyrrhonian school and the Neoplatonists , Gnostics which were clearly influenced from hindustic and buddhistic thinking.
In the indogreek kingdom many Greeks adopted Buddhism and they spread him further(Milindapanha,Darmaraksita etc.)
@megasayajinsongoku99 Buddha lived after pre-Socratic philosophers like Thales, Anaximander and others. I can't see how he influenced Greek philosophy, really.
@Seventh7Art My friend I never said that Buddha influenced Thales, Anaximander or Parmenides and co.
Historically sure is only the indian influence in Pyrrhonism and they exist some clues that Neoplatonism and Gnosticism( which was a mix of many thoughts of that time) had also some indian influences. To be influenced it's not bad , only true openmindet wise men can be influenced in such a way to influence also others .
@megasayajinsongoku99 influence must be proven though.... You do realize that Greek meander patterns are seen even in ancient Mexico. That's pure coincidende though. There was no direct contact, therefore there was no influence either. Even the so-called Egyptian influence on ancient Greece is mostly fraud and nothing more. Mythology is one thing and attested historical data is another. Read "White Athena", "Black Athena Revisited" and "Not Out Of Africa" for a start...
@Seventh7Art My friend I see now you speak about something different. First thanks for the informations. I will read them and I will start from Black Athena . I saw they exist also a new book of Bernal with the title Black Athena writtes back ... We must be objektive . I'm a Greek as I said but as a objektive historicer I don't care if Athen would be black, white, yellow or extraterrestial :D ... I'm going to find only the Truth based on proofs anf facts!
@Seventh7Art If I find that Socrates was black I will say that to all athe world. The same with the opposite if I find that Imhotep was a Greek for example. I don't care for the historic correct of the tradition of the countries, I'm only interested to the thing I call Truth! I hope that you can understand what I mean ( we must be objektive!)
@Seventh7Art Now to the facts. So far I know is the black Athena theory very controversial and the majority of the mainstream historians reject the clams/opinion(partly biased opinions) of Bernal.
The truth is that every culture had a culture. The Greeks don't invented mathematics , nor philosophy neither poetry . Of course also the Egyptians invented nothing . MANY cultures ''invented'' the arts etc. for their own. Mathematics anf philosophy had almost every culture...
@Seventh7Art About influneces , of course were the ancient Greeks influenced from the Egyptians and other cultures. I don't say ''stole'' , I said influenced! facts for that are the greek alphabet or the orientalism phase of arcaic greek culture who is affirmed from mainstream science. Of course the claims if Black Athena etc. are exagerate and they are partly afrocentric biased ...
@Seventh7Art Enough with the black thena theory . The debate of this theme was different. I said about the Pyrrhonism scepticism . This is clearly influenced from the Indian Gymnosophists. This is stated from Diogenes Laertius. Pyrrhus went with Alexander the Great in his campaign. That have nothing to do with the black Athena theory !
@Seventh7Art The Gnosticism was also a mix from influences ( example Hebraim, Christianity, about Buddhism it's not sure ) . Of course also the Greeks influenced the others. The influenced the Asians and they produce together the hellenistic civilisation . They influenced the Romans and produced the greco-roman civilisation who hwould been the base for the rise of the Western civilisation . This is a video about greek and indian philosophy . It's an amazing video :D :D
Almost every culture of the world has influences from others and influenced others. All cultures had positive and negative aspects. I think a human can win very much if he study all the philosophys of every culture..... As Greeks we have a natural curiosity for that :D (Parmenides , Milinda (Menandros the Just etc.)
@Seventh7Art In fact Seventh 7 Art, the Upanishads predate Thales by perhaps as many as 3 centuries. It seems you allow for influence to go only one way: Greece to India, denying any influence the other way. Here is a quick evidence: try adding Roman numerals MCVII with XIX and I imagine you will find that Sanskrit numerals - most importantly the zero - is much easier: 1107 plus 19...I would say India has influenced Europe in a pretty big way with just that fact.
@opensourcebuddhism Indians invented (readable to us) script after 400 BC. Therefore there is no way on Earth that Thales in 600 BC could have been influenced by any Indian text because it simply did not exist. The Vedas, Mahabharata etc. were written with Brahmi and other sanskrit scripts which evolved after Alexander the Great's era. Therefore you cannot prove any type of influence from India towards Greece. The only evident influence is from Greece to India...
@Seventh7Art Well...I find it funny running this channel to see how narrow people can be...for some, Israel is best, others Greece, Hindu fanatics have called me a Buddhist Nazi. Read'em and weep Seventh 7Art: if you trust wikipedia and this Sanskrit scholar (me): "The pre-Classical form of Sanskrit is known as Vedic Sanskrit, with the language of the Rigveda being the oldest and most archaic stage preserved, its oldest core dating back to as early as 1500 BCE." - way earlier than Greek.
@opensourcebuddhism Rig Veda as a verbal tradition might date back to 3000 BC for all I care. What matters is when it was written down. It was written down centuries after Homeric epics. That is the truth. Greek literature is far older than Indian. Back in 1500 BC, The Greeks had their own "Vedas" called the Eleusinia Mysteria and the Orphic religion. You seem to ignore all that. The oldest attested Greek scripts date back to around 1450 BC (Linear B tablets). Far older than India's texts...
@Seventh7Art OK Seventh7ARt...read'em and finally really weep; viz "India" versus "Greek". Don't know why these conversations are necessary really...but I think people are simply naive about how multi-cultural the world was...even back then. "The term Indus script (also Harappan script) refers to short strings of symbols associated with the Indus Valley Civilization, in use during the Mature Harappan period, between the 26th and 20th centuries BC." - wikipedia "Indus Valley Script"
@Seventh7Art I don't see how the fact that the Indus Valley script is yet untranslated or is non-Indic negates the ancientness of Indian civilization, do you? It certainly means Indian civ is more than a millenium older than Linear B or anything Greek. Just watch "The Story of India" - on Netflix or even, I believe youtube. Some speculate the language might be tied to Dravidian or even the original language of Sumer (which was not Semitic). The civ continues even though language changes.
@opensourcebuddhism If you cannot read a script, it is useless as a historical document. It gives you no information whatsoever. Also you are wrong about Indian civilization being older than Greek. Minoan Greek civilization dates back to 2500 BC while Aegean Greek and Proto-Helladic civilization flourished since 3000 BC.
@litsyt It is certain that the shared Indo-European languages stretching from Ireland (Arya-land) to Iran (Aryan) make for much in common in civilizations from Greece, Rome to India. The emphasis on beings of light and a predilection for statues and images would be just one feature shared. We do not see that in the Semitic Arab/Hebrew cultures, for example. Chinese is quite different from this complex of cultures. Witness the old sky god Zeus-patar, Jupiter, known as Dyaus-pitar in Sanskrit.
@pdronma You can thank the painstaking work of author Mike Watters. He is an incrediblet student ...I couldn't believe all the work, and he did the ten ox herding pictures documentary for another class...amazing!
@pdronma Thank you dronma, for the thanks! Such comments are tremendously gratifying to me as an instructor. Some have written to say these documentaries have helped them on an exam or paper or even helped them choose which Buddhism they liked best. This makes me really happy!
well the philosopher new buddism you know how i know ?because of Jesus reaction in the bible when told there were some greek's askin for him'then he turned around & set my time is near now the son of man is glorified '
you christian read but don't notice this things ths is why your so confused'
Jesus like the greek were of the same budhisms branch' from greece'
Well, first off-this is ancient thinking, which is very good for its timeline, but reality has showed us that we "stand on the shoulder's of giants" with respect to Buddhism thought(we all can't contemplate about life alone),we also learn from the study of men & woman from the world of science,we make our medicines,we do transplants, help to ease suffering. We have learned to do great things and bad things, but over all ancient thinking and current thinking can both be dangerous for our species, fools
OM SVASTI Very interesting video & research of Buddhist influences on Greek philosophers thought . There was mutual influences between Greece & ancient Buddhist India also: Buddha Shakyamuni is presented in statues and paintings in Greek style . This video can make better understanding of presence of Buddhist thoughts in Europe from ancient Greece until now, not only from 19th century onward.
The first noble truth is mistranslated as "life is suffering." It really translates into "there is suffering." Not, Life is suffering. Life contains suffering and unsatisfatoriness. People get the wrong idea when they hear, life is suffering, because not all of life is suffering.
Thank you for this wonderful video! This is why we must respect all religions and faith for the great holy men and women were the bodhisattvas who rose and spread compassion on the many's and to a more meaningful life. May all motherly beings be imbued with the deed to practice and wisdom.
@matreyia - Additionally - RIGHT SPEECH is not merely truthful speech, rather it is speech which is truthful unless that will cause direct destruction or harm to sentient life if spoken. There are cases when lying is considered right speech in Buddhism. For example, if children are too distracted to run out of a flaming house, one may say that toys & candies await them outside the house if they come out quick enough. This is considered right speech and skillful means because it will save them.
More I learn from this Buddhism stuff...more I doubt. I heard from my grandfather that Buddha was teacher of Trinity.
There is
1.LIES
2.TRUTH
3.Prediction & theory
If I say : -ppl will colonize Mars. Is it lies? or truth? Now we don`t know! So things are made of trinity. You said : Greeks took Buddhist ideas back home. There is doubt : How Greek warriors whose mind is sharpened by wars managed to learn languages & speak about such deep ideas!? I can`t say you are a lier!

Buddhism is a non-violent teaching, its concept of "Enlightenment" is the very essence of what separates Man from beasts.
chapsroc 1 month ago
@chapsroc what the fuck are you talking about? your makeing your own questions up! when did i say anything about islam spreading buddhism?

Barbaric Greek Paganism:
Zeus is Greek pagan deity, it's concept is pretty much like animals, "the most powerful" alpha-male, full stop.
Hercules, the son of Zeus, the strongest man who got his gene from Zeus - again, the concept of alpha-male animal.
Narcissus - Greek mythological idiot from whose name the term narcissism was derived. The Chinese has name for these kinds of idiots - "Frog at the bottom of a well"

No one can accuse the Buddha's teachings as either dogmatic or dictatorship.
chapsroc 1 month ago
Contrast on Greek "philosophy" vs Buddhism:
The Buddha meditated to obtain Enlightenment - self reliance or seek wisdom from the cosmos, not from Man.
Socrates relied on his students and "professional woman" to obtain wisdom --> lazy, fuzzy no definitive thoughts.
Aristotle discredited Plato's metaphysical conjectures; Karl Popper discredited Aristotle's philosophies, he called both Plato and Aristotle "false prophets" whose ideologies gave rise to tyrannical dictatorship.

1blackaura 1 month ago
@jimbob202019 , on Islam, math and science, you're simply a blind man talking. The numbers 1,2,3,4, is Arabic number, Algebra was developed by the Muslims, etc. The Arab Muslims had many contributions to the developments of mathematics and sciences.
On the flip side of your trifles that you might have overlooked, was the fact that Aristotle's concept of "higher cause" was adapted by both the Catholic and Muslim scholars to fit the mold of the "most high" God. High, higher...God! Get it?

@opensourcebuddhism, you're way off base, your fallacy is the using "form", a particular form, stone sculpture, to make a leap of conjecture of "Buddhism is influenced by Greeks xyz" because of "similarities" in stone sculptures that in most of cases ARE NOT SIMILAR AT ALL.

And by inference an established spiritual view of the world no doubt including taboo or law.
awakeningnow 7 months ago
@awakeningnow Well...I am well aware of human habitation prior to Sumer, but these are the people who gave the world writing, numbers, the wheel. The old wall of Jericho goes back to the 9th millenium BCE as well. Can we call these settlements "civilizations"? I don't really think so. To each his own...but philosophy per se as we know it, started with the peeps of Sumer...any evidence of writing at Gobekli Tepe? In any case, it is only 4000 years older than Sumer, not 7000
opensourcebuddhism 7 months ago
@awakeningnow Sumer was first developing writing in about 6 to 6.5 thousand years ago but really hit it's height around 5 to 5.5 thousand years ago. So 7000 is off by a bit but not 3000 years. However we are quibbling on that. If civilization is defined as having civil authority then Gobekli Tepe had to have that and some sort of symbolic or written communication, math, in order to keep track of the labor force, materials and design. Could not be done without it. Try it you'll see.

Other ‘indirect’ contact was the spread of gnostic Christianity (Nestorianism) to Tang (635AD), then came the Jesuits … Chinese philosophy did maintain its relative independent identity since recorded history in Shang (1562BC).
litsyt 8 months ago
@litsyt True, I know of no record of Greek/Chinese philosophical exchange in the axial age, at the latest, Kublai Khan's mother was a Nestorian Christian, so by the 13th century it was there, though I believe, small communities in larger cities I would imagine. Christians often spread to those urban areas first (Wayne Meeks: the First Urban Christians deciphers all this. Also, Jewish tribes have been found among the East Asian lands as well.

The west part of China is called Yunnan=Greece
uoitofsogroj 4 months ago

IAPONIA is a greek name for JAPAN, who call their land NIPPON
In greek IAPONIA derives from the anagramm "APO IONIA" which means FAR IONIA (APO = FAR)
uoitofsogroj 4 months ago
@uoitofsogroj Very interesting interpretation. Yet when did the term appear in Greek? Would it be some recent 'transliteration' & hence - 'nice coincidence' ? Historians noted that the Japanese called their country 大和 (Dai-wo = land of many mountains) in the past & it is the Chinese who called it Nip-pon (transliteration of 日本= where the sun (日) came from(本)). Yes people in the past suspected that the Japanese have some caucasian bloodline though DNA evidence seems to tell the contrary.

The have no connection with the words they use
uoitofsogroj 4 months ago
@litsyt
An example how non semantic most languages are
Our universe is called Cosmos, ok? In Greek Cosmos means Ornament, that means that the Universe is something beautiful, an englishman however uses the world Cosmos without knowing its deep meaning and its etymology
uoitofsogroj 4 months ago
@litsyt
Cosmos is also the opposite to Chaos meaning Order, and is devided in macrocosmos and microcosmos
People use words like cosmetic, cosmonaut, cosmogony, cosmology, cosmopolite etc, but who understands the etymology of these words?
uoitofsogroj 4 months ago
@uoitofsogroj I guess modern English is neither superior nor inferior, only that it is relatively a juvenile in the history of European languages, owing much of its terminology to those 'grande' cultures that came before. Actually, it is not uncommon for ancient people to believe that their own language did come from 'heaven', being coded with all sorts of secret of the universe, e.g. the Hebrew language. Yes, Greek is really interesting & in fact I am trying to learn it by myself of late ...
litsyt 4 months ago
@opensourcebuddhism Thx for the reply. Yes, many controversies may be avoided if one makes it clear from the start the (possible) timeline of exchange between Greek philosophy and Buddhism as well as the shared cultural background between Greece and India say from the perspective of history of language and mythology (which is the ‘mother of philosophy’). Some people even consider Greece and India as part of the same 'western' tradition/ cultural complex versus that of the east. Interesting.
litsyt 8 months ago
@litsyt I am among those counting India/Greece as part of a great "western" heritage, at least from Ireland to Nepal, and as you say, in terms of language/myth, the "mother of philosophy" as you put it. Of course, the Abrahamic intrusion (Judaism,Chrisianity,Islam) has altered the old "Aryan" religions, but in essence I see communication, trade, shared philosophies up until the Christian era and somewhat beyond even that. Sharing of ideas with China would take place centuries later in fact

@adiostraitorobama Of course, because it was historically hidden for centuries! The terms Greco-Buddhism (or Graeco-Buddhism) and Greco-Buddhist art are globally well- known nowadays.
pdronma 9 months ago

Seventh7Art 9 months ago
@Seventh7Art Of course there are historical proofs that Buddhist and Asian philosophies influenced Greece! For example, look for information about Pyrrho, a Greek philosopher and Pyrrhonism. In Wikipedia we can read: "Pyrrho, along with Anaxarchus, travelled with Alexander the Great on his exploration of the East, and studied under the Gymnosophists in India and the Magi in Persia", etc. The influence travelled both sides. :-)
pdronma 9 months ago
@pdronma These are anecdotes really... Just like the ones that say that Greeks learnt from Egyptian priests. In reality, the Greeks could not understand Egyptian and their view on Egypt was superficial and often misleading.
Seventh7Art 9 months ago
@Seventh7Art From what you are saying I can guess that you have never studied Plato. Anyhow, there are plenty of historical evidences about all these. Better search further and you will be deeply surprised of what you are going to learn..... ;-)

@pdronma Greeks did influence India. The other way around did not happen much really.

@megasayajinsongoku99 I never said one culture is better than other. Don't put words in my mouth...

Almost all cultures had a thinking similar to the greek philosophia , infact almost all cultures had philosophy in their way of thinking and compehend the world
megasayajinsongoku99 9 months ago
@megasayajinsongoku99 Philosophy is something linked with humans all over the world. I was talking about famous, influential philosophy. In that regard, Greek philosophy was more well known and influential in the West.
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art Every human philosophy is linked with human all over the world. And yes the Western Wolrlds had been influnced more from the ancient greek and latin philosopy than from the Asian philosphy, although the greek philosophy had been also influenced from the anatolic philosophy and knowledge. In the modern world the influence of Asian philosophy in the West is greater as also the influence of Europen philosophy in the East ..
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art As for the Greek influence on Buddhist art you 're right, although the influence is never only from one side. In terms of philosophy although we have the phyrrhonian school and the Neoplatonists , Gnostics which were clearly influenced from hindustic and buddhistic thinking.
In the indogreek kingdom many Greeks adopted Buddhism and they spread him further(Milindapanha,Darmaraksita etc.)
megasayajinsongoku99 9 months ago
@megasayajinsongoku99 Buddha lived after pre-Socratic philosophers like Thales, Anaximander and others. I can't see how he influenced Greek philosophy, really.
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art My friend I never said that Buddha influenced Thales, Anaximander or Parmenides and co.
Historically sure is only the indian influence in Pyrrhonism and they exist some clues that Neoplatonism and Gnosticism( which was a mix of many thoughts of that time) had also some indian influences. To be influenced it's not bad , only true openmindet wise men can be influenced in such a way to influence also others .
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@megasayajinsongoku99 influence must be proven though.... You do realize that Greek meander patterns are seen even in ancient Mexico. That's pure coincidende though. There was no direct contact, therefore there was no influence either. Even the so-called Egyptian influence on ancient Greece is mostly fraud and nothing more. Mythology is one thing and attested historical data is another. Read "White Athena", "Black Athena Revisited" and "Not Out Of Africa" for a start...
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art You don't suppose that the correlations are due to shared experience?
frankdearl 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art My friend I see now you speak about something different. First thanks for the informations. I will read them and I will start from Black Athena . I saw they exist also a new book of Bernal with the title Black Athena writtes back ... We must be objektive . I'm a Greek as I said but as a objektive historicer I don't care if Athen would be black, white, yellow or extraterrestial :D ... I'm going to find only the Truth based on proofs anf facts!
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art If I find that Socrates was black I will say that to all athe world. The same with the opposite if I find that Imhotep was a Greek for example. I don't care for the historic correct of the tradition of the countries, I'm only interested to the thing I call Truth! I hope that you can understand what I mean ( we must be objektive!)
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art Now to the facts. So far I know is the black Athena theory very controversial and the majority of the mainstream historians reject the clams/opinion(partly biased opinions) of Bernal.
The truth is that every culture had a culture. The Greeks don't invented mathematics , nor philosophy neither poetry . Of course also the Egyptians invented nothing . MANY cultures ''invented'' the arts etc. for their own. Mathematics anf philosophy had almost every culture...
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art About influneces , of course were the ancient Greeks influenced from the Egyptians and other cultures. I don't say ''stole'' , I said influenced! facts for that are the greek alphabet or the orientalism phase of arcaic greek culture who is affirmed from mainstream science. Of course the claims if Black Athena etc. are exagerate and they are partly afrocentric biased ...
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art Enough with the black thena theory . The debate of this theme was different. I said about the Pyrrhonism scepticism . This is clearly influenced from the Indian Gymnosophists. This is stated from Diogenes Laertius. Pyrrhus went with Alexander the Great in his campaign. That have nothing to do with the black Athena theory !
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art The Gnosticism was also a mix from influences ( example Hebraim, Christianity, about Buddhism it's not sure ) . Of course also the Greeks influenced the others. The influenced the Asians and they produce together the hellenistic civilisation . They influenced the Romans and produced the greco-roman civilisation who hwould been the base for the rise of the Western civilisation . This is a video about greek and indian philosophy . It's an amazing video :D :D
megasayajinsongoku99 8 months ago
Almost every culture of the world has influences from others and influenced others. All cultures had positive and negative aspects. I think a human can win very much if he study all the philosophys of every culture..... As Greeks we have a natural curiosity for that :D (Parmenides , Milinda (Menandros the Just etc.)
megasayajinsongoku99 9 months ago
@Seventh7Art In fact Seventh 7 Art, the Upanishads predate Thales by perhaps as many as 3 centuries. It seems you allow for influence to go only one way: Greece to India, denying any influence the other way. Here is a quick evidence: try adding Roman numerals MCVII with XIX and I imagine you will find that Sanskrit numerals - most importantly the zero - is much easier: 1107 plus 19...I would say India has influenced Europe in a pretty big way with just that fact.
opensourcebuddhism 8 months ago
@opensourcebuddhism Indians invented (readable to us) script after 400 BC. Therefore there is no way on Earth that Thales in 600 BC could have been influenced by any Indian text because it simply did not exist. The Vedas, Mahabharata etc. were written with Brahmi and other sanskrit scripts which evolved after Alexander the Great's era. Therefore you cannot prove any type of influence from India towards Greece. The only evident influence is from Greece to India...
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art Well...I find it funny running this channel to see how narrow people can be...for some, Israel is best, others Greece, Hindu fanatics have called me a Buddhist Nazi. Read'em and weep Seventh 7Art: if you trust wikipedia and this Sanskrit scholar (me): "The pre-Classical form of Sanskrit is known as Vedic Sanskrit, with the language of the Rigveda being the oldest and most archaic stage preserved, its oldest core dating back to as early as 1500 BCE." - way earlier than Greek.
opensourcebuddhism 8 months ago
@opensourcebuddhism Rig Veda as a verbal tradition might date back to 3000 BC for all I care. What matters is when it was written down. It was written down centuries after Homeric epics. That is the truth. Greek literature is far older than Indian. Back in 1500 BC, The Greeks had their own "Vedas" called the Eleusinia Mysteria and the Orphic religion. You seem to ignore all that. The oldest attested Greek scripts date back to around 1450 BC (Linear B tablets). Far older than India's texts...
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art OK Seventh7ARt...read'em and finally really weep; viz "India" versus "Greek". Don't know why these conversations are necessary really...but I think people are simply naive about how multi-cultural the world was...even back then. "The term Indus script (also Harappan script) refers to short strings of symbols associated with the Indus Valley Civilization, in use during the Mature Harappan period, between the 26th and 20th centuries BC." - wikipedia "Indus Valley Script"
opensourcebuddhism 8 months ago
@opensourcebuddhism Indus Valley Civilization used a script that is not deciphered and it probably belongs to a non-Indic language....
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@Seventh7Art I don't see how the fact that the Indus Valley script is yet untranslated or is non-Indic negates the ancientness of Indian civilization, do you? It certainly means Indian civ is more than a millenium older than Linear B or anything Greek. Just watch "The Story of India" - on Netflix or even, I believe youtube. Some speculate the language might be tied to Dravidian or even the original language of Sumer (which was not Semitic). The civ continues even though language changes.
opensourcebuddhism 8 months ago
@opensourcebuddhism If you cannot read a script, it is useless as a historical document. It gives you no information whatsoever. Also you are wrong about Indian civilization being older than Greek. Minoan Greek civilization dates back to 2500 BC while Aegean Greek and Proto-Helladic civilization flourished since 3000 BC.
Seventh7Art 8 months ago
@litsyt It is certain that the shared Indo-European languages stretching from Ireland (Arya-land) to Iran (Aryan) make for much in common in civilizations from Greece, Rome to India. The emphasis on beings of light and a predilection for statues and images would be just one feature shared. We do not see that in the Semitic Arab/Hebrew cultures, for example. Chinese is quite different from this complex of cultures. Witness the old sky god Zeus-patar, Jupiter, known as Dyaus-pitar in Sanskrit.

I'm sorry to say, your translation of the 4 Noble Truths are incorrect and misleading.
1. Life is NOT suffering- rather There exists suffering in Life...(as well as Joy).
2. The cause of suffering is ignorance which begets craving to impermanent things and the desire for them to last.
3. By overcoming ignorance which leads to craving and misapprehension, suffering comes to end.
4. There is a method to end this suffering -- the 8 fold noble path.
