This is an excellent, smooth, tight and very energetic performance of this classic! Did not know they were still doing full performances of these old songs in the 80's. Big smile!
to be honest after 82 everything was downhill - they peaked in 82 with under pressure and the live shows that year - i caught them at leeds and milton keynes and they were brilliant. 2 years later, on the works tour they were in the beginning of a steady decline. the works was an incredibly disappointing album - very derivative of previous glories but offering nothing new. every great band has their golden age and queen had an octave - 8 years from 74 to 82. same as the beatles 62 - 70.
@bunterx They never peaked. They were still going strong until Freddie became ill. Queen took a break after 1982. They were tired and deserved it. They toured in 1984. Historic Live Aid in 1985. Wembley in 1986. And then everyone knows what happened after 1986. They recorded several hits while Freddie was dying.
Well, Ogre Battle and '39 actually lasted pretty long. They played Ogre Battle numerous times during the NOTW tour (Philly, NY, etc.), and '39 (in parts) during the '80s.
Technically its not the last ful lperformance of liar because they still did the full song for most of the kind of magic tour. Wembley and knebworth being the acceptions.
Can you tell me what show you think the has the best recorded version of Great King Rat. I can't seem to find a good quality live version. Figured you'd know:-)
Deacon sounds like Steve Harris in this one

This is so fuckin' awesome! Wish they've played more old songs in the 80's, that would have been superb!
And this is performance is just...legendary! They should've played Liar more often!

@bunterx But what about 'Magic Tour ' in 1986? i would think that was a pinnacle for Queen after 'The works tour'

I love it when people try to act like they know what they're talking about, like darthbrewster.
I didn't know the song was even played in-full after the 70's.
I thought most of this stuff got dropped slowly, Stone cold crazy, Liar, Great King Rat, the medleys, of SHA/ANATO, etc.

I wish they kept Ogre Battle, '39, as well as other songs

I meant that if they kept them throughout the 80s
But of course '39 was somewhat revived for Queen + PR

No, that's The Works tour, and that version is 2 or 3 minutes every time. Oh, and The Magic tour version is just the solo. Nice research.
