@slimshadie1290 Well of course there is going to be a loss of bottom end power with bigger cams, but the gain in top end should be worth it. I had a noticeable increase in power after installing my bc 272's
@2GGSX On my Mazda6, I actually had the reverse happen. I gained loads of bottom-end and lost power in the top 15% of my powerband. With that revvy engine, lowend is appreciated when I can get it.
@americansmark Im not too familiar with mazdas but for as slow as it revs out it sounds like your retarded a tooth. Id check the timing bc there's no way you gained bottom end hp or torque with 272's
can u install this same cams on a stock everything gsx?? even with the crap t25. ima upgrade to an evo3 16g later down the road but i found a deal on this same cams and want to know if its worth getting them?
Eclipse's were never built in Japan. DSM is a joint venture of Chrysler and Mitsu, all were made in America. Only the 4g63T engine was made in japan and its specs are slightly different from the DSM engine because it was put in the Evolution 3.
The 2.4l engine came in the GS spyder which is SOHC and has 141 hp, so that V8 you have must not be much of a V8 to be beaten by that car b/c i had a GS spyder and they arent very quick at all.
The car sounds great. I have a crower beast cam in my 302 with 280/280 duration and it sounds like a beast. Does your gsx have a turbo upgrade? And as for whoever was talking about about 4 cylinders needing turbos to beat v8s, my brother has an Eclipse with a stock 2.4 with an exhaust and it runs with my modded v8 off the line and even beats it top gear.
a v8 wll not beat a stock 4 cylinder everytime...i would put money down on an integra type r over any of the 1990s mustang gts...both straight from the factory...and thats a 1.8 liter motor in the integra...and dsm stands for diamond star motorsports which if you look at the mitsubishi symbol...its a diamond star lol so i guess dsms are still around if you want to get technical...
yea a v8 has more power yes stock v8 vs stock 4cylinder if both running good yea v8 will win everyone is just closed minded sayin and arent willing to accept that a four cylinder can produce alot of power everyone is always lookin for more power point blank doesnt matter if its v8 or v12 or inline 4 if your car is fast it shouldnt matter produce power is what we all like to see

Just because it was manufactured in the US doesn't make it "American" Turbo DSMs have Mitsubishi powertrains, making them just as much of an import as any other Asian produced in the US. Learn the basics before you go calling names and next time you won't embarrass yourself.
Not all 7 bolts are crap.. just when they walk... but most any engine can walk if you dont take care of it... My 7 Bolt is running strong and gets the shit beat out of it (although maintenance is kept up).
Its a 96 GST. 130,000 miles. Running 17psi, Stainless equal length manifold, stainless o2 with atmo waste dump, 3" turbo back, HKS filter on hard pipes and HKS BOV to hold the higher boost. I have had her 7500 RPM many times. And constantly drive her pretty hard, everyday. The problem was with the thrust bearing i believe. Something about the factory clearances or how it was machined with too much clearance or something like that. dont recall the actual reason for premature failure.
yeah it was the thrust bearing it was actually manufactured incorrectly and would actually destroy the crank and cause it to walk the plank but there were few that made it through ok but i wouldnt take the chance personally you may have gotten lucky
personally i would stick with my 1g's since there not only lighter but there 6 bolt
750 RPM will spin it fast.. but thats not what killed it, because its not dead. It's still holding really strong.. I'm just ditching it to build a 2.6 and have the quick spool on a larger turbo. Not to mention, it would be fun to build.
Jesus, some people, here, lets simplify, retard, Mitsubishi = Import I don't give a flying fuck if somebody's Japanese designed car was built in Normal, Illinois. I'm calling it an import, go cry about it someplace else.
So that's why they were never sold in Japan? Just a very few imported over there. Hmmm...yea that makes perfect sense. It's gotta be an import if the name brand is of foreign decent. You use perfect logic.
Actually I prefer to call it by where the money goes, I call Camry's imports as well since I don't care if they're built in good ole kentucky, the money goes to japan straight to Dr. Toyoda himself. The car is built by an import car company in a domestic factory with mostly imported components so LOGICALLY I like to call it an import car, kind of like if I got a bunch of JDM parts and built a car here in my yard it doesn't make it an american car.
That's not completely accurate, especially if you actually know these cars, you'll notice a very different build quality and parts quality between a talon and an eclipse. The american made parts were done much cheaper to keep costs comparitive to the japanese made counterparts, also there are some tricks in the laws for products made in the us of foreign components. All a company has to do is send an "incomplete" part here to be finished. I call it the denso trick, since they do it constantly.
What sense would it make to make the same parts in different countries? Really....come on....I've got both a Talon and an Eclipse both 2g's. So yea, I know these cars.
And you can't tell a difference between the interiors of the two cars? I suppose it also bears mentioning that the 4g63 and it's subsiquent drivetrain components were japanese sourced as well. The 100% american parts of the car were the body and chassis bits. BTW most japanese companies like to build "sister" plants so they can make parts in japan and then later turn around to make those same parts in america. Don't know what sense it makes, but it's what they do.
The whole reason behind DSM was to produce the cars over here to get around import taxes. So why would they go to the trouble to make parts in Japan for cars that aren't even offered in Japan? Yes, the 4g63t motor is sourced from Japan. They do that for other vehicles but when DSM ended that was that. No more DSM's produced in the US.
I can't possibly assume why a company would do exactly what they do (even if you choose to do so) BUT clearly the reasoning behind the move was to share costs between the two companies, and make money in the american market. Again, check out the plastics on the interior of your two cars and there should be an undeniable difference between them. Mitsu, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan ALL make parts in japan that get put on US-only vehicles (TRUCKS mostly) so go ask them why, not me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No I think a Conquest Tsi is a muscle car cuz it's a DSM.... Now seriously, why even put that on here, first off I made a pretty logical arguement about DSMs because they are mostly Japanese sourced. Second, who are you? I was yaking back and forth at some other dude, then poof, a month later you show up. BTW some people do think that SRT4's are musclecars, they plaster it all over the mopar mags. Are they wrong? Oh yeah, but I don't care about them.

I love how the v8 argument against 4 cylinders is that a power adder is needed to keep up with a v8.
It does. So what. A turbocharger is just a different mechanical means to more power, just like 4 additional cylinders.
If it outruns your v8, a 4 banger outran your v8. Who's going to be looking at power adders now?

tankcore 3 years ago
DSM's aren't imports, learn something before you speak.
screamingdemon 3 years ago
Jesus, some people, here, lets simplify, retard, Mitsubishi = Import I don't give a flying fuck if somebody's Japanese designed car was built in Normal, Illinois. I'm calling it an import, go cry about it someplace else.
tankcore 3 years ago
So that's why they were never sold in Japan? Just a very few imported over there. Hmmm...yea that makes perfect sense. It's gotta be an import if the name brand is of foreign decent. You use perfect logic.
screamingdemon 3 years ago
Actually I prefer to call it by where the money goes, I call Camry's imports as well since I don't care if they're built in good ole kentucky, the money goes to japan straight to Dr. Toyoda himself. The car is built by an import car company in a domestic factory with mostly imported components so LOGICALLY I like to call it an import car, kind of like if I got a bunch of JDM parts and built a car here in my yard it doesn't make it an american car.
tankcore 3 years ago
Actually the parts were manufactured over here for DSM's. I'm sure your good old modern "muscle cars" have there far share of foreign parts.
screamingdemon 3 years ago
That's not completely accurate, especially if you actually know these cars, you'll notice a very different build quality and parts quality between a talon and an eclipse. The american made parts were done much cheaper to keep costs comparitive to the japanese made counterparts, also there are some tricks in the laws for products made in the us of foreign components. All a company has to do is send an "incomplete" part here to be finished. I call it the denso trick, since they do it constantly.
tankcore 3 years ago
What sense would it make to make the same parts in different countries? Really....come on....I've got both a Talon and an Eclipse both 2g's. So yea, I know these cars.
screamingdemon 3 years ago
And you can't tell a difference between the interiors of the two cars? I suppose it also bears mentioning that the 4g63 and it's subsiquent drivetrain components were japanese sourced as well. The 100% american parts of the car were the body and chassis bits. BTW most japanese companies like to build "sister" plants so they can make parts in japan and then later turn around to make those same parts in america. Don't know what sense it makes, but it's what they do.
tankcore 3 years ago
The whole reason behind DSM was to produce the cars over here to get around import taxes. So why would they go to the trouble to make parts in Japan for cars that aren't even offered in Japan? Yes, the 4g63t motor is sourced from Japan. They do that for other vehicles but when DSM ended that was that. No more DSM's produced in the US.
screamingdemon 3 years ago
I can't possibly assume why a company would do exactly what they do (even if you choose to do so) BUT clearly the reasoning behind the move was to share costs between the two companies, and make money in the american market. Again, check out the plastics on the interior of your two cars and there should be an undeniable difference between them. Mitsu, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan ALL make parts in japan that get put on US-only vehicles (TRUCKS mostly) so go ask them why, not me.

i hope you don't think a neon srt is a muscle car since it's a dodge

No I think a Conquest Tsi is a muscle car cuz it's a DSM.... Now seriously, why even put that on here, first off I made a pretty logical arguement about DSMs because they are mostly Japanese sourced. Second, who are you? I was yaking back and forth at some other dude, then poof, a month later you show up. BTW some people do think that SRT4's are musclecars, they plaster it all over the mopar mags. Are they wrong? Oh yeah, but I don't care about them.
