I have a question for all the people who support Prop 8 and it is this: WHY does this matter so much to you? Unless you have gay/lesbian family members that you want to discourage from marrying, I cannot see how two men or two women marrying will have any effect on you or your daily lives. Whenever I ask this I get all the usual arguments about "protecting marriage" (from what?) and the lame "This is the way it has always been." That just isn't enough for me and it wasn't enough for the judge.

Rights of a minority cannot be rescinded by a vote of the majority without judicial review. In this case the law was found to have violated the 14 amendment. This case is proceeding according to American law, and only crybabies holler "communist!" when they lose.

Minors aren't allowed to marry any adult because they aren't thought to be able rationally consent. Animals aren't able to consent at all. However, if you believe it is a choice, please explain how you have homosexual urges as well as heterosexual urges yet you choose to be straight. Some religious fanatic asked me what being black or brown has to do with being gay. That the No on Prop 8 people are fabricating a similarity between gays and other minorities. Obviously, this person doesn't read. Being gay is a biological reality with some psychological influences. It is genetic and psycho-social influences either make it easy or difficult to accept. Not everyone has a gay sexual orientation. Whether it is 10% or 1% doesn't matter. Gays are a minority through no choice.

You forget that the reason why Cali is seen as a progressive state is because of LA, San Fran and San Diego - majority of the voting populous is there. You can either extend it to gay people, or accept that separation of church and state IS in the Constitution and the very nature of marriage itself is violating that if you get benefits from the govern.

I have a question for all the people who support Prop 8 and it is this: WHY does this matter so much to you? Unless you have gay/lesbian family members that you want to discourage from marrying, I cannot see how two men or two women marrying will have any effect on you or your daily lives. Whenever I ask this I get all the usual arguments about "protecting marriage" (from what?) and the lame "This is the way it has always been." That just isn't enough for me and it wasn't enough for the judge.

Rights of a minority cannot be rescinded by a vote of the majority without judicial review. In this case the law was found to have violated the 14 amendment. This case is proceeding according to American law, and only crybabies holler "communist!" when they lose.

This isn't about "same-sex" marriage. It's about marriage, something that has always been understood to be a fundamental right in this nation. It shouldn't even have to be argued that the gov't has no civil, secular, basis in denying a fundamental right to people based solely on their gender. If a woman is allowed to marry a man, then a man must be allowed to marry a man also; otherwise all other sexual discrimination laws are suspect. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

Minors aren't allowed to marry any adult because they aren't thought to be able rationally consent. Animals aren't able to consent at all. Until consent is no longer an aspect of marriage in America, children and animals won't be able to marry sexual predators. I hope you feel better.

Sometimes, the majority succeeds. How long was it fought for to allow inter racial marriage? Back and fourth it went until the case was decided in the Supreme Court. Today, it is hard to believe that it had to go all the way to the Supreme Court before it was finally decided, "Yes" inter racial marriage is legal in all States.

@1luv408 Sexual orientation and race are similar becasue both have been used as pretexts for discrimination. Being gay isn't a choice any more than one's race is-- sure gays could pass for straight just as blacks could pass for white if they used makeup, wigs, and made an effort to talk and act white. But why should they have to just to please bigots who object to their being who they really are?

Gay people have been getting married for years-- it's simply time for the law to recognize that fact. The opposition has failed to show any harm for socieity if this is done. The rights and benefits other married couples have should not be denied to gay spouses.
