It's no wonder Itzham Perlman was Maury's mentor and gave him his violin.

Maurice has met Perlman but he was not Maurice's mentor. Actually Maurice studied with Ivan Galamian, Dorothy Delay and Fredell Lack. Perlman also studied with Ivan Galamian and Dorothy Delay. Maurice does not have his violin either but his own violin which he has had for many years.
