  • what went through your mind when you wrote that last line? i'm guessing it is the fact that no one will remember most of us in one hundred years? but except for the people like you, your genius and ideas are timeless and will stand the test of time!

  • I always felt Roy's enlightenment can be pinpointed to the moment after he says, 'Unless you're alive, you can't play, and if you don't play...' That sudden silence suggests a revelation; that it -is- just a game, but a beautiful one, and one you should give yourself to fully.

  • I watched this movie when I was 8 and I didn't understand it. For years, I would continue to watch this film over and over again trying to figure out its meaning. Finally in my late 20's beginning to grasp its intent. Into my 30's I read parts of Philip K. Dick's book.

After purchasing the final cut, watching the documentaries and now listening to your candid interview. I appreciate the purpose of Blade Runner and its vast meaning. Here's to one of the great respected actors. Superb Mr. Hauer

  • you rock rutger , plus ur sooo sexy

  • what a f%*kin leg end

  • "all those moments will be lost in time", my favourite movie scene ever, so poignant, thanks for taking the time to make this video and thanks for delivering the lines perfectly :)

  • I love Rutger Hauer, what a genius actor.

  • I just watched Blade Runner within the hour, for perhaps the 5th time. And I always look forward to Roy's death scene. It's funny that a death scene can be the happiest moment in a movie.

  • you`re awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow! i never thought of how Roy really was giving Deckard the one thing that he wants most, to live longer. That makes that scene even more tragic but beautiful, thank you for that insight!

  • Pretty blue eyes

  • wow what a gent and what a pleasure it is for some one like this genius actor to respond in this way, bladerunner has to be one of the greatest movies of all time, the music by vangelis fits perfectly.

  • What I love about Rutger Hauer is the fact that he completely sticks by the movies he has made. He just gets what the movie was trying to do, and why. If the movie is being accused of being something that it isn't, he will be the one to defend it.

So many actors just make a movie, kind of understand it's cultural significance, promote it and then move on to the next thing.

You can tell how much Blade Runner meant, and still means, to Rutger to this day. Amazing actor.

  • what is blade runner i love rutger hauer adn watch most of his films apart from blade runner i thought a lot more people would talk about the hitcher because in my opinion its his best film and its my favourite i never watched blade runner because i heard it is a very confusing film

  • I think 3D technology would work wonders with a movie like this.

  • Rutger is so very special. I so wish I could have had the fortune to meet him. I suppose some things aren't meant. I must admit, we watched Bladerunner in Philosophy class and for some reason, I fell asleep after roughly twenty minutes. I woke up sometime with Roy sticking his head through a wall. I never felt so guilty about falling asleep in my life. My utmost apologies for that. I watched the movie recently and was able to appreciate it in full. Wonderful, strong performance.

  • it was a "reflex" built into his response mechanism

  • @FilmfactoryShorts I always believed that there was something 'special' about Roy. Something that even his creators hadn't foreseen: he was an evolution. An evolution that was brought to an untimely end.

  • Blade Runner will remain timeless.

  • I am just letting you know your notes are much appreciated. i don t take anything for granted. This movie made me very happy while i did it and i am happy for the movie as it seems to hold its own against many odds and all time. And thank you for the love.XXX

  • @FilmfactoryShorts it is so nice when you discover yourself in a movie

  • @FilmfactoryShorts "We're so happy you found us!"

  • Blade runner is one of a kind. One of the few movies that truly stand the test of time. It became part of me. One of the few movies that evolved me i dare say. And your performance, mr. Rutger Hauer, was ... magic. So spot on. I just like to take the opportunity to thank you for being part of it ... for enriching my life! .. big words, maybe, but true words non the less. This movie will never stop to amaze me.

  • welcome dante

  • thank you. it amazes me also. every day. i love what i do madly and your feedback is a constant in my life and it gives me tons of energy. xxx

  • i must say, Blade Runner has to be my all time Favorite film and Role from you. Just soo poetic and strong. truly intimidating. perfection.

another one of course was the hitcher. id like to know why your character in that film went nuts. and turned into a serial killer.

again though , i know you hear this a million times over. you're amazing. simply amazing.

  • Sometimes I wish I could have films erased from my memory so I could experience them again for the first time. Blade Runner would be first on the list. Even though I know what lies around every corner, every line spoken, I still yearn to watch the movie on occasion. That is the hallmark of excellence in film.

Your ability to depict who Roy Batty was and what he was all about, was an effort of acting that has had few parallels. Simply brilliant.

  • The last line, the way you delivered it, is why so many people love this movie. Pure poetry.

  • The tears in rain speech…the poetic poignancy of those lines delivered so skillfully by Rutger Hauer provided the most moving scene in Blade Runner. It will forever be the most memorable part of the movie for me and one that in just a few words was able to sum up so beautifully the sentiment behind Philip K Dicks novel. I think that Rutger’s performance captured the true essence of his character and in watching the film makes one question who the actual villain really is in the movie.

  • One thing that always struck me about the story was Deckerd's ambiguity. He successfully fights replicants who are supercharged physically and mentally, he even falls in love with one. It always seemed to me that he most likely was one himself, perhaps created for that specific job. It's one of the haunting ironies of the story reflected in its original title "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". Would he ever really know, would anyone?

  • @colourmegone It really bothers me that Ridley projected his own belief that Deckard was actually a replicant into the film. I think it should be left wide open. I prefer to think that he was human myself. Some people have speculated that Tyrell is also a replicant.

I'm really glad I saw this vid from Rutger.

  • @isaachaze1 I didn't see any such belief in the film. Where, exactly, does it become apparent that Deckard is a replicant? The only indications that I saw were the ambiguous ones I mentioned, his abilities to fight what are supposed to be supermen single handed and his attraction to a woman that he knows is a replicant.

  • @colourmegone Depends on which version of the film you see. In the theatrical version, it was neutral as to whether Deckard was a replicant. However, in the director's cut, Ridley added the scene of the "shared unicorn," which is supposedly one of the dreams implanted in replicants. Deckard has this dream, which indicates he may be a replicant. In addition, Ridley revealed his bias in at least one interview on the subject

  • @isaachaze1 In the last version that was released on BR's 25th birthday FINAL CUT almost all characters are running on batteries. Including Deckard. He just has not been updated. It is torture. It is Ridley. It is wicked.

  • i realise you've had many years of praise from people, all over the world, for your great works in cinema. however, i think there's 1 award that you may not have heard of: You were the only man to make it into my "Top Five Celebrity Crushes" list i did on facebook.

    you earned it.

  • rutger, did you write/create the monologue for hobo's trailer in front of the infants? its eerily brilliant! if not, very well delivered! love your work.

  • Wow i've never heard of an actor post a response to a video made by a fan. I was very suprised to see it. It says quite a lot about you as a person. I have a new found respect for you sir. Thank you for the amazing part you played in Bladerunner. There will never be another film like it.

  • Hi Rutger

Completely agree with you, the music in the film was incredible. What was your particular favourite piece of music from the Film? Mine would have to be Rachel's Song.

Vangelis is truly amazing. Did you ever meet him?

    All the best!

  • OH MY GOD ITS RUTGER HAUER !

  • Wow. Sir? I never realized you were the 'editor' for Roy's "swan song" - you took what was probably a wonderful speech conveying all the messages of the story, and cut it down to the core, filtered right to the essential message, and even the BREVITY of the monologue ADDS to the it and gives it even more poignancy!

THANK YOU, Mr. Hauer. That needs to be said, even now more than ever.

  • Wow, I'm really speechless. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Mr. Hauer.

I can't say if Blade Runner is my favorite movie. But it's definitely one of my favorites and a rather unique movie. Atmosphere, story, characters, music. Everything is so brilliant. And of course, Roy's death is one of those moments in film history, that are exceptional.

  • Way to give back Rutger and share with other actors what true artistry you give.

  • That was really moving to see you respond to that video and I appreciate hearing about that last line. I agree, too, about the redemption. Roy may be my favorite movie character ever, he left such an impact on me growing up. I felt you captured the real warrior like no one else on film ever had.

  • Thank you for sharing your comments, Mr. Hauer. As you say, it is incredible that we are in a place where ideas can be shared freely. Your remarks have given me deeper insight into the character of Roy Batty and your portrayal of him, a portrayal that continues to fill me with awe to this day.

  • You are a very under rated and under appreciated actor Mr Hauer. Thank you for your contributions to film, and now to the internet.

You are still one of my all time favorite action stars.

  • ʎƃolouɥɔǝʇ lnɟɹǝpuoʍ

  • Just this morning I wondered how they did it without Internet, then I found yours videos - wonderful technology

  • The internet is a pretty awesome place, indeed.

I think it's quite amazing that you're using youtube this way. We need more communication like this ^_^

  • I feel as though I have received a message from Roy beyond the grave. You're beautiful Mr. Hauer.

  • Rutger, i'm not getting Hobo with a shotgun, can you explain it to me. Umm, thanks xx

  • @carrieanne20 I'm working this out. Try HOBO WITH A HOTGUN @ The Alamo

  • @carrieanne20 I mean HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN @ The Alamo

If you search this in youtube i m sure something will show up

  • Rutger, it's very nice of you to address to your audience this way, and it's a pleasure listening to what you have to say. Blade Runner's definitely not your only good film, but the part of Roy Batty just might be the most important.

PS: Good luck with Hobo with a Shotgun - I'm double excited that you've become a major part of this project. It's going to get you a new generation of fans.

  • My favorite role of yours was as the blind samauri. You gave my brother and I alot of joy!

  • I am honored beyond words Sir. Thank you for many things. I will cherish this day.

Thank you for the clarification. And I can see your point about Roy's redemption. Deckerd probably never would appreciate it either. Thank you for sharing.

  • @tetsubo57 welcome much xxx

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts Rutger x

  • Rutger, are you referring to tetsubo57's review?

  • @lordvalgarX I can t start yet with more responses than i do. It may have to do with the fact i should reponse to too many. Just a practical time factor. I have one life. If i had 9 or 27 it would be ok. Can t do it.RH
