You don't even need to hit the Labyrinth boss & yet with the rising water & traps amok, it's still the hardest boss in the game. Sega probably put Star Light zone afterwards as a reward for those capable of beating this challenge of a zone, & reintroduced this zone in act 3 of Scrap Brain, just to intimidate us with fear...

Malalha. This stage scared me badly when I was little (I was one year old when it came out!) The faces in the background and the rising water made me panic. And the last stage in Scrap Brain Zone did so even more.
@showstoppa01 that tune along with the 5 second dinging made me rather claustrophobic in Sonic 1, of course i overcame that. Ironically enough, whenever i swim underwater in real life, the first thing that comes to mind when i need to come up for air is the dreaded drowning tune (which was obviously inspired by a certain Steven Spielberg blockbuster)

This level isn't that hard. Except the boss, that's definitely the hardest part of the game.
I actually like this level, the drowning/bubble mechanic makes for some really tense moments.

I don't hate Labyrinth Zone, i love it! Why? Because i love underwater levels! I kind of got over the drowning music, and it's not scary to me.
It's true that Sonic can only hold his breath for 30 seconds.....but theres something that bpblu missed!
Hear those ding-ding sound effects every 5-8 seconds? When you hear the THIRD one, quickly get an air bubble, or come to the surface!

Orbinauts I know are the enemies in Sonic 3. The manual said Spike Spheres I believe... last I checked. It's been a while, lol.

I also nearly had a panic attack or something everytime I see/play this level, must be because when I was younger I could NOT for the life of me get past Act 3 of this Zone where sonic keeps sliding down the waterslide. Also that drowning music would bepretty scary for a 6 or 7 year old lol
