Maybe he got better after getting into arsenal 'cuz back in the OM he couldn't even outrun a single defender let alone stand up against one.
Still, mascherano isn't the quickest def midfielder you will find, and outrunning him isn't a miraculous feat. Once he can outrun Makelele or Hargreaves, Then he is quite fast.

Once he's got some Cantona or Rooney kind of power, come back and i'll admit that he's strong.

Good technique and agility, but he lacks in power, speed and stamina.
If only he had speed or power, or both, he would be a great midfielder, but unfortunately that is not the case.
