hey the video is perfect but when i put my xp install disk in it says its to old to install, im a little comfused on step 3 and 4 if you could give me a hand it would be appresheated thanks
Thanks. Actually, the torrent in the video is completely legal. It is not a pirated copy of Vista. It just has the startup utilities for Vista. In fact, I believe that Microsoft was the one who released it, so it's not illegal. :-)
That doesn't sound good. When you set up the partition for XP, did you make sure that you gave it enough space? I would recommend at least 10gb, but even that is not very useable. Also, did you format the partition as NTFS? I think NTFS is needed for XP to be installed on the partition. Another thing could be that you have a bad installation disc. I hope that this information is helpful to you and that you successfully install XP! NXTFreak
everything was done right....now what do i do now that i get the reboot loop when trying to boot into xp....yes im able to choose between vista and xp at starup....just xp reboots everytime i try to get into it...safe mode hangs up at mup.sys....anyone can help with this?...looked it up on google it only gives tips for computers with only xp on it
I have Vista and XP installed on my computer, but just xp boots. so I'm going to recover win vista. i don't want to dual boot, i want to get rid of the xp partition. so when I've recovered vista, will it now always automatically boot into vista?? thanks for any reply.
No, it should not delete your Vista drive OR your recovery drive, because you install XP on a separate partition. You could, however, end up deleting those two partitions if you aren't careful! So please proceed with caution. ~NXTFreak~
Thank You SO MUCH!!! I was looking for a video for this exact model. I have a vgn-n220e just like you and I was wanting to install xp on it. Now thanks to you, I know what to do. This is going in my favorites!
You shouldn't have to change the bios to boot from a CD (if the CD is indeed bootable). You should just be able to insert the bootable CD into your computer and then restart it. Sorry if this doesn't work.
You do NOT have to make a recovery disc from those 6 CD's. They ARE your recovery discs. You are supposed to use those 6 CDs to restore your computer to its original state. So Dell wouldn't send you an English version? That's disappointing. I guess since you have an original copy of Windows Vista, downloading an English version isn't illegal, don't you think? I guess you could do that, but don't download XP or any different version of Vista. Download the exact version you have except in English.
If those 6 CDs were all that Dell sent you, they should be sufficient to restore your computer to its original state. Those 6 CDs are your recovery discs. Is the Vista disc Dell sent you in French, or is the Vista installed on your computer in French? If the disc Dell sent you is in French, you could probably send it back to Dell and ask them for it in English. Please tell me if I answered your questions.
Your welcome. Reinstalling the OS won't let you create a recovery disc because you formatted the recovery partition. If you have the OS and drivers already, and want to restore your computer to its original state without the extra software that came pre-installed, just install the OS and then the drivers. But if you also want the extra software that came pre-installed, you are probably gonna need to call Dell and ask them to send you the recovery discs. One of them probably has the software.
What computer do you have? Usually your computer comes with software from the manufacturer which lets you create a recovery disc. The recovery disc can then be used to restore your computer to its factory default state. Try googling something like "How to create recovery disc on x" X being your computer model.
The reason I dual-booted XP is because most of my little bro's computer games wouldn't work on Vista, but they would on XP. I should try Linux though. What version would you recommend?
Yes, it should work fine. The only reason I specified the Vaio VGN-N220E is because in the video I showed you how to install some of the main drivers for that specific computer. It should work, but the drivers (of course) won't. You will have to go driver hunting to find XP drivers for your specific computer.
Yes, I have heard about the osx 86 project, or whatever they call it. It is very interesting that you can actually install os x on a pc. But I think that it is illegal, unless you are an apple developer. So, unless you are one, you shouldn't do it. ;) But I am glad that you found this video helpful for dual-booting.
