  • @1skypilot47

It is also awesome to be found by members of the younger generation such as me :)

    I am a fan now :)

  • miss

  • if you want to hear the Suil A Ruin part more clearly, look up the Lord of The Dance Version.

  • can anyone errr.... translate these lyrics to something understandable? i dont understand what it means

  • @giraffeman3705 Folk songs are passed from hand to hand and change accordingly I was told the nonsense words were actually originally Gaelic and changed through the years being passes down .

  • AN DOCHAS, an Irish band in Spokane, WA, performs a beautiful version of this song on their CD DRAGONFLY REDUX. It's entitled "Shule A Rue", which I am guessing is Irish/Gaelic for "Gone The Rainbow". You can hear An Dochas' version on Yahoo.

  • @1918teardrop Actually it is spelled Siúil A Rúin and means Go, My Love. The Irish tune, "Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier," and "Gone The Rainbow" are all very similar...and all are about a girl who is sad because her love is going away to be a soldier. They pronounce Siúil A Rúin differently, and I don't know for sure or not if those other things are just nonsense sounds, but the songs are definitely related a lot.

  • My mother used to sing this to me when I was little. Wonderful memories.

  • I saw PPM perform two years in a row in the early 90s in Baltimore...this brings back wonderful memories!

  • It was a Irish tune, and then a song of the American Revolution.

  • I first heard this song 25 years ago, and it's still the song that most often pops into my head in the shower!

  • I too was one of the kids (now 24) who grew up with his parents listening to this (and many other PPM songs to boot) and became infatuated with it. But just at random because I also like the band Clannad I stumbled upon the song 'Siúil A Rún'. I love this song and will continue to like it, but I believe 'Siúil A Rún' is where the lyrics came from. If you like this you should give it a listen.

  • and thanks to Gus Christ for exposing me and many others in the toms river school system to this and many other great songs. A better music teacher never existed.

  • I used to perform this in 6th grade chorus, thanks for posting it, it brought back so many incredible memories.

  • 浜松の興誠高校時代を思い出します。関先生まだ元気かな~

  • Lovely song. Beautiful harmony.

  • My folks bought all the Peter Paul and Mary albums. I loved this song. I remember when I would get the flu, Dad would put their albums on and those songs soothed me. I now have their Cd's. They were(are) the classiest trio of singers in a class all their own. Thank you for the download. Seemed fitting for New years Day for all our soldiers...............

  • @cornflowerblue7 can you upload them to the computer and make a download link for certain ones? Cause i have been searching for some of their songs for a billion years but cant find. if you can, it would be SO great

  • @giraffeman370 I would be happy to burn what I have for you. I have to get blanks anyway, I'm out. I have Peter,Paul and Mary the one withthe heart drawn on the wall, and Ten years together, so many of their songs but not all of them. Just be patient. two months out of major surgery for torn tendon and nerves in left hand so I am not getting out that much. Since you gave me yor address when I burn them I can mail them to you. Just give me a little time to do it.: ) Cornflowerblue7

  • It makes me misty remembering my parents listening to this album on their "hi fi"

  • @Cruelapathy That is funny I can remember my parents doing the same thing. It took me a while to realize it but they played some great music.

  • One of my absolute favourite PPM songs! I was blessed in getting to see and hear Mary Travers 3 times (two with Peter and Paul) in her lifetime...R.I.P. Mary Travers.
