bach shall remain a timeless figurehead of an age of music that will never truly die. The musicians of today will eventually be forgotten, the composers of the classical genre will never be forgotten. Their legacy has been passed down throughout the ages and will continue to be passed down. They say bach is one of the worlds greatest composers, which is indeed true. If bach had never been the classical and romantic era's of the classical genre would not be what they are if it wan't for bach.
I was glad to see this note on Bach's performance practices. I'm in complete agreement with this Lutheran understanding that the only thing to be in front is Word (i.e. pulpit) and Sacrament (Baptism & Eucharist), music in the back in ministerial obscurity as Jesus was in His Incarnation Humiliation. Most of today's arrogant ostentatious prefer sinful placement in front, sadly woefully ignorant of the aforesaid humility of Jesus Himself seen in aforesaid tradition.
Of course, the performance is perfect. ¡¡Herr..!! I've never listened a initiation like this in any choral musical piece. In my opinion Bach achieves in this first part of the Passion the summit of his choral oratorios. As other times, Bach overcomes and rewrites an important part of Gospel sense. Truly: ...in allen Landen herrlich ist!
In the beginning, the word is god. Many voices resembling the infinity of the universe, yet all is one and one is all. Behind the voices is a central melody, behind the trees lies the mountain, and so all flows from the word
une version étrangement "aboyante" ...très curieux, j'ai beau reprendre la partition dans tous les sens, je ne comprends pas l'étrange idée du chef d'orchestre, pourquoi cet appui, pour quoi cette sécheresse?
@TheEuropeanWarrior Definitely. It's hardly possible St.John the Baptist would write an account of the Passion of Christ since he died some time before it happened.

" more unbridled and less "finished."" Nonsense! I just hope that person who wrote those words can do better than Bach :-/

@vcolang The number one musical genius. The colossus of western music. The distiller of the essence of musical craft.

If Matthew the Apostle was BWV 244, is this meant to be by John the Apostle, and not John the Baptist as the picture shows?

@TheEuropeanWarrior Well spotted. I love Titian, but I must admit the discrepancy escaped my notice.
