  • will #hashtags work here?

  • bro my name is mari smith .. t'f

  • Great explanation of a hashtag, Mari. I find that I am still explaining hashtags on an almost daily basis, years after we all started using them. I don't think they will be going anywhere any time soon, so I always like to see how others explain them. You did a great job here! See you in the #Twitterverse!

  • Great Twitter hashtag over. Thanks for sharing!

  • ewww get off my screeen (:

    -tim (:

  • #thisdoesntwork

  • I love the way she says,"search".Btw,thank you!! (:

  • Thanks Mari, this was very informative. BTW, I am going to follow you on twitter and will hold you to your word about following us back! We are just getting started and need help! Thanks again, Lost Souls Band

  • I couldn't hear what you were saying because of the loud music. When you make a How-to video it should be about the "How-to" not the back ground music, it takes the focus off of your information and message. I turned down the volume but the music got louder while only your voice lessened.

  • Follow me on Twitter & I promsie I'll follow back! @AndrewWithHair

  • Really helpful mari.Thx for sharing

  • Favorited because of accent.

  • @hardBoss

    She has an accent? I don't notice it. She sounds very normal to me.

  • Mari smith, thanks for the insights!

  • old hag teaching other technologically illiterate old people simple technology.... -____-" get off the Internet

  • Created hashtag at Twitter and it does not work there but can be found using the realtime link in Google. Profile Image shows up at Twitter but it does not show up at Google Realtime. Advanced searches at Twitter do not work when using local. No way to contact Twitter unless I send a snail mail letter to the contact street address in SF. Hmmmm I liken Twitter and the Internet like tapping on pipes in prison.. Great video. Learned a lot. Thanks

  • You accent is incredible! Where are you from?

  • Thanks!

  • Milf;)

  • what is the difference between @ing and #ing :'(?

  • The difference between @ing & #ing-> @ing could signify a Twitter member or just @anything (not a Twitter Member) #ing->could signify any meaning;everyone that uses #ing? I.E. If u use software where u can set up a "column" 2 watch everyone using #ing, u can try 2 figure out what #ing means 2 all those that tweet using #ing in their tweets. Use/benfits of Hashtags are many

  • You have to love Mari and her cheerful personality!

    Great tips, hashtags are a great promotional tool ;-)

    @partyaficionado

  • Hey Mari,

    Actually I seldom use Twitter Hashtags so thanks for sharing great tips on how these will help you "get noticed" on your market as you share your tweets or tweeting something you're interested about.

    The use of Twitter search would really help to find these relevant topics easier.

    Thanks a lot,

    Tyrone

  • Thanks -- useful video

  • You did not say how to create a new hashtag.

  • @cstaley416 Easy, you simply make one and start using it. Just type it, and tweet it. And there you go :)

  • Thanks for the clarification

  • Thanks a mil!! I will do for sure -- I have heaps of plans for more video tutorials speaking into the camera as well as screen capture. ;-)

  • That explains the mystery of hash tags!! I will be able to use them in my events. Thanks Mari!

  • Woohooo!! Glad to hear that - definitely helps create more visibility at events by tweeting with hashtags!!

  • what a strange & new accent to me. ah well/

  • Hello Mari. I just wanted to thank you for such great info. I really appreciate it! 8-)

  • Thanks a mil - you're very welcome!! :)

  • Thank you for the reply! Looking forward for a mutual beneficial relationship!

  • Cool, thanks for explaining.

  • Love the accent!

  • Best accent ever!

  • My username is mistercristofer on Twitter, and my hashtags...dont work! i put the # thing but nothing happens even after i save it or go back, it's not clickable or searchable :(

  • Thank you so much. I had some idea the purpose for hash tags, but didn't know how to use them. My bro @zensunni sent me here for education. Very helpful.

  • I love your accent! I have a similar one! Scottish + Canadian + Wisconsinite! Wiscottian?

  • hahaha-- that's brilliant!! We're maybe related? LOL

  • haha you americans are hilarious. i'm canadian. that is nottttttttt a 'canadian accent' LOL

  • teehee - I'm actually Scottish + Canadian. I was born in Canada to Scottish parents; spent my childhood in Canada, then the next 20 years in Scotland and now been in California for 10 years (since '99). So I like to joke my accent is "Scandifornian" - a combo of all three Scottish + Canadian + Californian. lol.

  • Actually ... she sounds more Irish.

  • no, she really doesn't.

  • I must say you do sound Canadian. Nice to listen to though! Only ever stayed in the Monte Carlo myself. Think I've got it - about the '#' I mean.

    Thanks.

  • @tagalus ! Great resource for getting and setting definitions of hashtags

  • you sound as if you have a touch of a scottish accent

  • Now I finally know what all the # are in tweets! Thanks Mari!!!

    ShellyB

    @TheRatRaceRebel

  • w00t!! you are so welcome. Truly my pleasure to help out.

  • Mari Love your Educational Videos. Are you using FLIP camera or other digital

  • Hi there - this video was made using a Canon PowerShot S15IS. It's my fave because of the flip around viewer - I can pop on a tripod (or stack up table/chairs as I did in this hotel room - lol!) and frame up myself exactly how I want. As it happens, I accidentally left this camera in a taxi after the ASW09... really bummed about that. Shortly went out and bought the big brother as a replacement: Canon PowerShot SX10IS. FAB camera!

  • Interesting accent. Canadian?

  • Canadian + Scottish + Californian. hehe

  • Hottie! love the accent!

  • Thanks mari very informative and you`re extremely followable `twitter speaking of course` !

  • How do I choose one for a new event and not dupicate one that already exists. Then how does it become of interest to other people. New to hashtags!

  • Hi Janis - gosh, I've attempted to post a reply twice now and YouTube is not letting it post... hmmm.

  • aha!!! It's 'cuz I'm including links. Okay first - search for the hashtag you want to use on both Twitter search and also Twemes. If it's not there, go ahead and use it. People find out about your hashtag as you tweet with it and others may retweet you. You can see the ones that go viral from the top ten trending topics on Twitter search.

  • Also, hashtags can be for single events, ongoing tips, specific objective or an ongoing habit, e.g. my friend @AlexisNeely has #amgrat for morning gratitude and #pmceleb for afternoon celebration and each day she and her followers tweet with those hashtags as part of a ritual if you will. Love that!!

  • Stephen Frye linked to you for this tutorial. Thanks for explaining hashtags in detail and recommending sites which utilize them. Off to enjoy your blog now. :)

  • LOVE that!!! @StephenFry is a super sweetheart. I'll have to give him a big kiss on the cheek next time I'm in the UK. haha!

    Cheers,

    @marismith

  • I thought she was Canadian. She says "oot". Australian accents are awfuller. At least now know what the damned little #s are for.

  • Hehee - my accent is "Scandifornian" - a mix of Scottish, Canadian & Californian. :)

    Cheers,

    @marismith

  • ohh i was right is you're mom scottish or something?

  • Yep - both parents are 100% Scottish. I once traced my roots - we're Scottish for 500 years, then Irish before that. hehe. I'm only Canadian by birth - my folks met and married there in the 60's. ;)

  • You present very confidently, informally and eloquently on video Mari. Top job!

    And great tips too...

  • Thanks so much!!! I had a blast and really need to make a heap more videos!!

  • Thanks, Great information. I checked out your offer. Not so interested in screen shots of Facebook - will you be doing one for Twitter? Thanks.

  • Great explanation of hashtags Mari. Keep it coming!

  • Powerful, good information, you Rock Christine!! I'm 66 years young and having the time of my life on the Internet. Thanks again.

  • good stuff mari thnx passed it along

    @ChristineG

  • Totally get hashtags now. Thanks for clearing that up!

  • You totally cleared up this hashtag mystery for me!

  • Super info!!

  • I love this video (and you) -- did you ever think that you'd say Tweet and Twit so many times in a 4 minute period in your life?

    Thanks for clarifying and giving such great information!

  • You're so welcome!! Hehee, I had a blast making the video. ;)

  • Thank you for this video, I was totally lost on the hash tags!

    Now I'm ready to rock and roll :)

    ~Alethea Anderson

  • Always meant to ask about the #. Now I don't have to. Thanks, Mari!

  • Mari,

    Thanks for this video. I saw the # yesterday and didn't know what it was. I'll look for that today and also Twemes and Tweetchat. Thanks again and thanks for being so cheerful. That makes learning fun.

  • Thanks Mari...This helped me a BUNCH :)

  • Awesome- I knew they were keywords but had no idea how to search for them. This is great.

    Thanks,

    @snowcapps

  • Mari, I was just going to make a video on this, and I'm so glad to have found this. I'll be creating a step-by-step instruction with Camtasia for these things to make it "for Dummies".

  • Thanks for great info as usual. Easy to understand and implement. One of my favorite twitter tools is tweetchat for following threads during conferences and teleseminars.

    @DeniseWakeman

  • Excellent info Mari, been following you on twitter and your info is priceless. Thank-you so much for the tips.

  • Thanks oodles and bunches! I'm a newbie, so this is so helpful.

  • Thanks for the tip! I was wondering what those things were...

  • I send all your videos to my grandmother in the Dominican Republic. Getting her up to speed. It's funny to see her post on my wall.

  • This is sooooo helpful, thank Mari. I love that your name is a shortened version of mine. I love your accent too. =) You did great with this video!
