I`m not critizising "you" (Americans), I'm critzising Glenn Beck for his arrogant attitude: He says Americans, that don't like it at home should just go to Europe - well they can't! I really don't see what that has to do with European history. Secondly what Beck says about other countries is just factually wrong! general healthcare and not letting people freeze or starve to death has nothing to do with socialism, it basic humanism. You should really try that - makes you happy.

There were about 100 recorded deaths during the Great Depression from starving to death. Since there is currently no one starving to death why would anybody feel the need to pass legislation ensuring everyone has food unless it was for socialist reasons?

Believe it or not, even we in "socialist europe" have immigration laws - oh sorry, I always forget, that they don't apply to the citizens of the home of brave and the land of the free ;-) Maybe it's time you took a trip to europe and take a closer look at the commi-nightmare we have to live in; and while you're at it: check some of your facts on deficits and so forth...

Europe is irrelevant. If it weren't for the Bretton Woods compact Europe would be six feet under. Know your history, Europe nearly killed itself twice in the twentieth century and enslaved the world for thousands of years. So in what position are you to criticize us?

The elites? Glen Beck's income is listed in Forbes. This dude has more money than any one single person should. Nearly $20 million a year! Glen Beck is NOT "one of us".

He doesn't get "teary eyed". In Forbes Magazine he explicitly stated that he "doesn't give a flying crap about politics. It's all just entertainment."

he's totally right... WHO DECIDES??? who tells you what is adequate for you? Who has the right to tell me I make too much money? Who can tell me, "you don't need that extra bedroom... there are only 3 in your family" if I work for it, I can have it. If I work for it, I do not want to give it to you.

Of course no one can decide for you. If you make enough, you can have your extra bedroom. No one is trying to stop you, but you just will get taxed for it accordingly. If you said the taxes are preventing you to get what you want, and by the law of Capitalism, maybe you are just not making enough.

right... so someone doesn't come out and say "too much house... you don't need it" they tax me further. It's punishment based on productivity! I'm a producer, not so much of a consumer. yet the consumers that do not produce still are able to consume on my dime.

this is the grand problem. it's the entitlements that people are truely not entitled to. You're truely only entitled to what you personally earn and create.

"make more, pay more taxes" what is the flaw in that logic? you are paying by the percentage, not by the absolute amount. Plus, I don't see how paying taxes is a punishment? That is the fundamental of our society. Without taxes, who is funding the schools, the researches, the road and everything else that make your life so convenient? Don't be selfish.

your percentage is determined by your absolute amount. It goes like this, in September my income was 245k, if I make 5k more, my taxes will jump an exhorbant amount and in order for me to recoup the taxes lost, I'll have to make another 80-100k. So why bother to work the rest of the year? Why continue to produce?

and you're right, taxes fund the services we use. But I dont use them any more than the guy next door, so why is it fair for me to pay more? Because I work harder?

No, I have never owed IRS anything. The reason you do is you see taxes as a punishment. THAT is a problem.

I don't see how our taxation is without representation. Paying by the percentage seems fair to everyone.

okay, I think you're confused. Paying by the percentage IS fair as long as everyone pays the same percentage. We are now a welfare state. That means that more than half of the country pays NOTHING in income tax. How is that fair? If you have an income and I have an income, why am I treated differently?

You probably get a refund every year of some kind and are happy when you get it. IRS "borrows" $ from you then gives it back without interest but they charge US interest. Fair?

It would be fair if we all paid a percentage of what we USE. I'm not using the roads any more than the next guy (less since I work at home). the difference between 245k and 251k is an addtional 8%. Do the math. You bring home LESS when you make MORE. how is that fair and how does it equal selfishness? Payroll taxes have gone up 62%. Cap and Trade and health care "reform" make running my business uncertain and everyone is about to go on 1099 commission only. Is that selfish too?

The reason they'll be on 1099 is the taxes. If I have to pay more taxes on the same amount of productivity, I will have to get rid of someone and work more to cover that person's work. Why? Because I am not going to take away from my family because the govt says it's FAIR.

You work, you eat. You work hard and smart, you eat better than the guy that doesn't. THAT is fair.
