  • I dont think Nastia is a sore loser, but you notice she never celebrates except when she wins gold which is what her father has instilled in her, but I think pretty sad. I think if you medal at all or even finish near the top you should celebrate...

  • I am so happy memmel is back. I hope she makes the team! She also looks more artistic on her floor.

  • Did you guys actually WATCH Nastia's floor with your eyes open? She cross her legs like scissor on back tumbling passes.Every one of these cross legs should be deducted 0.5 point, when it all adds up,she shouldn't event get a 9.4.Nastia's bar routine was also contain leg separation and she had terrible leg form on her dismount.Liukin's father told reporters the judges weren't being fair on Beijing Bar EF, he KNOWS Liukin had errors of forms and leg separation.

  • @PLANETIMAGE1

Umm, crossed legs lose you 0.1 is the current COP. They'd lose you even less in this COP. Please, do some research.

  • Not winning for Nastia was, in some twisted way, probably the best thing for her. Even though it was the beginning of a lot of setbacks and disappointments for the next 2 years, she probably ended up working harder and she became tougher mentally I'm sure. Makes you wonder if would appreciate winning the olympics, or even if she would have! Things that make you go hmmm.

  • chellsies first tumbling pass is probably at about 2500 miles per hour. awesome awesome awesome.

  • A double layout as a second pass!!!!! That's almost never heard of in womens artistic gymnastics. The last time i saw a gymnast do a double layout as a second pass was all the way in 2000 when Kristen Maloney did it at the Olympics.

  • @jeffdunhamfan22 Daiane dos Santos does a double layout for a third pass.

  • talk about sore loser

  • @lisapizza16 thats hardly being a sore loser, its called disappointment, did she not congratulate Memmel on winning? Yes, did she say anything rude or offensive? No, now kindly stfu unless you have something relevant to say.

  • @tmwalkerm sweetheart.I did not go off on the subject now did I? I just stated that she was a sore loser. There is a difference between disappointment and a sore loser. So how about you "kindly stfu" & not get emotional over 1 small comment. And I do believe there are ruder comments than my own. So please do not comment me "unless you have something relevant to say." WOW you really showed me by the way, I might now go cry....Wait no I will not. Get over yourself, you don't mean that much.

  • @tmwalkerm Oh and my comment is over a year old...so what was the point in commenting on a view point that may have changed (but it has not). I really don't understand people like you...very weird...

  • @lisapizza16 free country bitch, I can and will comment whenever the hell I want.

  • @tmwalkerm I'm sorry that your not intelligent enough to come up with more intellectual comments. I'm sorry that you feel that emotional about a personal you have not met that you feel you have to use profanity to try to get a point across. I am sorry that you have to sit behind a computer and freak out on someone just to make yourself feel better about yourself. But I hope you feel better now and your day will be full of sunshine and unicorns (:

  • @lisapizza16 if you were even remotely worth my time I'd come up with more intelligent, unfortunately you are not worth it. Go fuck yourself.

  • oomg so overscored (memmel) she have a terrible form, whatsoever shes a norteamerican

  • spoiler alert

ohhh what a heartbreaker for nastia! one thousandth of a point!?! i thought her and chellsie both did amazing, and it's so great for australia to finally have an AA medalist! go monette!!!

  • nast and chellsie should have tied

  • who's crying at 8:17?

  • @czucksk84life Thats Chellsie's mom Jenelle. So sweet <3

  • @Nanenarave2005 Erm, she really wasn't? How was she? If u know u can win and u lose by 0.001 ud be pretty pissed off.

  • Is that Severino holding Nastia at 7.17?

  • yah she was wrong

  • I figured out why they don't talk much during Monette Russo's routines. It's because they are holding their breath! They're nervous, God love 'em.

  • Beth is so nice and talkative.

  • Chellsie's spin is very beautiful.

  • good job Chellsie and Nastia!! :) ♥

  • Nastia Def. Should Have Won

    No Question

  • Nastia Was Definitely Ovescored On Beam

    No Question.

But I do believe they should have tied. 0.001 is no big enough to separate the gold from the silver.

  • Nastia Should Have Won This

    Total Crap!

  • Nastia's face when they show her after Chellsie is announced the winner is heartbreaking. Poor thing tries to smile...

  • lol. yea regardless of the fig rules, even if there are ties at worlds the ioc has control over the olympic ties.

  • oh okay, thanks. well it made sense back then because with the old system it was really easy to tie with everyone getting similar scores, 9.3, 9.4. now with the new system i think its harder to produce ties.

  • Actually, now it's much easier to tie, since judges can't award say a 9.550. It's either 9.500 or 9.600, which basically means we can no longer see execution scores in the .000-.012-.025-.037-.050-.062-.075-.087-.100 range. It's got to be .000-.025-.050-.075-.100.

  • But its better that the scores are always at least .025 apart because what happened at this worlds (having to round out scores, and Nastia getting the silver) wouldn't happen. Except on vault because you have to average two scores, for ex. Cheng got a 15.562 in vt finals.

  • Yeah but back then every one had basically the same start value 9.8, 9.9, 10.0, and now you've got to add a d score which can range from 5.5 to 7.7(nastia's vt and ub)

  • yea u can, in 2003 chellsie and hollie tied for gold on bars

  • Ties are not done in artistic gymnastics at world champs. Only at the olympics. There are ties all the time at world championships.

  • what video are you watching???? she was amazing here with much improved form

  • Goodness Chellsie is amazing on floor.

I would have loved for Nastia to win - she's by far the more beautiful gymnast - but when Chellsie comes out and does a floor routine like that, what can you do?

  • Chellsie only won by .001 points. Chellsie is very good on floor, but she didn't really dominate over Nastia.

  • i like nastia. wish her vault was stronger. she reali needs to work on that

  • That is so lame, I think they need to keep ties. They definitely should have shared the gold.

  • but wait if your not aloud to tie, then how did they tie at the 2007 worlds. I'm so confused

  • Who tied in 2007?

  • I've been researching this discrepancy, and according to 2 articles from International Gymnast magazine technically Nastia and Chellsie tied, "At the 2005 Worlds in Melbourne, she technically tied teammate Chellsie Memmel for the all-around title, but was bumped to second because of a truncated scoring system that cut .001 from her total score." IG 10/30/07

  • Also from IG 06/09/08 Editor Dwight Normilie Depth: When was the last time the top three finishers were all-around world champions? (And I'm still giving that title to Liukin, who tied Memmel for the 2005 gold in Melbourne, and then was bumped to second when the scores were truncated via a senseless rule.)

  • In the matter of the rule, and these quotes, truncation is when a decimal number is merely cut off, or the number of digits past the decimal point is limited.

For example, consider the real numbers

    5.6341432543653654

    32.438191288

To truncate these numbers to 4 decimal digits, we only consider the 4 digits to the right of the decimal point.

    The result would be:

    5.6341

    32.4381

FIG was using a similar rule for the 2005 Worlds.

Several sources cite dual champs for this competition.

  • jade barbosa and vanessa ferrari for bronze in the aa. and steliana nistor and li shanshan for silver in the beam ef.

  • You know, I really like Chellsie, but I think Nastia deserved the gold. Not one person had the grace and artistry of Nastia... and last time I checked the sport was called ARTISTIC gymnastics.

Oh well, what's done is done.

I also heard that Nastia and Chellsie actually tied for first, but they don't recognize ties for first place or something and they bumped Nastia's score down. I could be wrong and crazy... but whatever.

  • I think he said that she is the first Australian to get an AA medal, but I'm not sure.

  • Is there any need to be so catty? Would you prefer it if Chellsie was suffering from an eating disorder? Comments like this can do far more harm than you realise.

  • Yes, Chellsie did win for a 0,001 but I think that Nastia deserve the gold with much more score!

  • Hey, 0.001! ;)

  • Jeez I bet America wishes the Olympics were in 2006 instead of 2008, it would've been a slaughter. But they should still do well in Beijing, tey just seem to keep pumping em out

  • Svetlana may have been a diva but is one of Russians most productive gymnasts....now she has retired Russia have not really been i the spotlight...hhmm

  • I think memmel is better than Nastia... Nastia is a lovely lookin gymnast but not quiet as effective as memmel and Monette.

  • i agree... romania and russia seem to have trouble finding new talent while china and usa have a bunch of world class gymnasts just in time for beijing...

  • It just isn't a world championships with out the romanians and the russians. Remember the good old days? Back when you could feel the cold war in the competition hall! Thank god, Nastia Liukin is half russian! She is actually the best best female russian gymnast at this worlds. She truely is an amazing gymnasts. She brings that extra to the sport. Memmel is good though but not nearly as polished as Liukin.

  • nobody payed attention to nast and chelsie it was all about monet ruso!

  • Because it was AUS broadcasting. If it was from NBC they would have talked about Memmel and Liukin.

  • @eMthegymnast An American talking about how the broadcasting company focused on their own gymnasts, oh the irony.
