  • Good to see you pup knows he has worked in the fashion you wanted him to. You and i know that, if you gave him time, he could pin both of those birds {from 15-35 ft ?} for you to block them and force them to fly into the wind for a better shot. Nice to watch a dog happy with the quality of his handler and pack mate.

  • german shorthairs are the most versatile pointing breed.mine retrieved 3 canadian geese this mourning.beautiful country

  • @rockybirddog @rockybirddog Hi Rocky. You have probably a good germans there.

Well it just a game for supersetters to retrive geeses. Take a look:

    Best regards

  • @rockybirddog all the german shorthairs i have ever seen flush every bird. I have got to say its halarious to watch them. But maybe there are some that actually point. I know my setter has no problem pointing and has never bumped a bird while wild bird hunting.

  • @claytonamore13 German shorthairs can be a bit stubborn, true, and need to well understand the hunting\pointing\hold after shot\mark the bird down\and wait to re-register if there is a second warm body scent to point\take a hand direction mark\retrieve to two handed 'take'. But i have seen and trained really good ones. But far prefer Orange Beltons all the time. They are just more personable for my taste.

  • tomorrow ill have this dog not thiis ill have setter

  • Very nice! We've had the privilege of hunting in similar terrain with our Brittanys. It is a lot of fun. Give that dog a pat for me . . . he did a nice job for you.

  • Nothing more fun than watching an English Setter do it's thing. Great team, thanks for sharing.

  • I didn't know ptarmigan hunting was a pteam event

  • Hello,

I used to have a English setter, but sadly, It died. It lived up to be 16 years old!!!

:) Well everyone have a happy time with your pets,

( P.s, Our English setter was VERY easy to train! )

  • Great video!

Effectively, the english setter is endowed with a redoubtable and murderous effectiveness. And it is one of the reasons for that they choose it.

    Greetings from France!!!

  • The dog does exsaktly what its supposed to do!

I have a young one - im hoping it will become like this one!

    Greetings from Norway

  • ¡¡Enhorabuena!! y felicidades por este gran perro de caza, este si es un perro que te dara muchas satisfacciones y te pondrá mucha caza a tiro.

    Saludos.

  • finally a nice setter from outside Italy! Congratulation, beautifull dog, and great instinct! I love setter like yours!

I live in Canada and when I hunt I love to do it with my two setters, both from Italy. Now I' m trying to promote the european setter stile in America... very hard to make them understand!

I never had the chance to hunt ptarmigan, but it always been my dream!

Can I know the genetic of this dog? I have the feeling that it have some Italian blood line.

    Thanks

  • this is outstanding team work, high praise to the trainer and the dog

  • Hi,

This setter is nice and very well trained.

    greetings from spain

  • why didnt you shoot the damn birds!!!???

  • Hi.

There is not allowed to shoot these birds 11 months evry year. We may only shoot in 1 mounth. The other time of the year we just train the dog to find the birds, rais it to the wings and shoot. The dog have to be steady in the hunting moment. This training is all aboute that.

    Best regards from iceland

  • Ah i see! well im from colorado, USA and we do a lot of upland bird hunting here. Lots of waterfowl too. its great to see a dog trained well and obeys that priciisely. We use dogs here a lot for duck hunting, but we usually use labs.

  • Hi.

Well...when you have only one dog and it is a Champion english setter Odin. Yu don´t need a Lab. I use my champ in duck and geese hunting as well as ptarmigan and grouse.

    Best regards

  • but you dont' have push your dog over birds.....it's a setter...a pointing dog...the birds must flush naturally when they want.

  • To get first prmie in field trial, dog have to flush birds by command. That´s why I train dog like this one. Dog that dosen´t flush the bird by command won´t get first premie.

  • Very attractive setter work!
