  • Too smooth

  • keepcoming backto this one. Great, great feel...

  • @groovatious This is the reason I intend to get one and put into my rig. The electro has, hands down, the best possible Rhodes and B3 samples in existence. Playing is not too bad, either.

  • I keep coming back to listen to this because I love it!

  • Damn, you're great. Subscribed.

  • Defiantly could see some Herbie there!...superb

  • herbie with a litle bit ahmad

  • been playing piano for almost 30 years but not much last few fews, you just inspired me to get back into it.....unreal bro.

  • Great video ! Best keyboard instrument ever !

  • this is F***ING DOPE!!!!! And I love the echo on the rhodes

  • Dig this. More Herbiehish than anything you can find in Youtube :)

  • I really want to start learning keyboard, which one would you recommend me to beggin (and not too pricey)?

  • Very nice, my friend. How long have you been playing?

  • @TheBJORNBJORNBJORN Thanks mate! 25 years.

  • this song is so similar to song for my father. Which came first?

  • I want to hear you play this through my rhodes mark v ;)

  • I was blown away by you're improv work towards the end, you have phenomenal flavor

  • great rhodes blunted sound...but too much echo.

  • @2bin FAIR ENOUGH!!

    FAIR enough!

    fair enough.

    fair enough...

  • @groovatious lol!

  • @groovatious i liked the reverb especially for the long space between the hits. nice! great playing too

  • @2bin Its called delay...

  • @2bin Yep, GOT IT, Got it, got it...

  • omg you are so good man. i wish i was half as good as you are!!

  • This is really good, crazy speed! I'm gonna buy a nord electro myself, I just really have no idea what kind of amp I should buy, since I'm actually a guitarist. What amp do you use? or do you recommend another amp?

  • @YacobaCorral These days I'm using a QSC K10. A good quality guitar amp will actually work quite well for the Rhodes/Wurly/Clav patches (will naturally colour it a bit - not necessarily a bad thing), but the piano/hammond patches will sound bad. Something like the QSC is a clearer, full-range powered speaker which works for all sounds/synths.

  • It s great

  • hey man where did you get that stand ? and how do you call a stand like that ?

    Sounds good!!

  • que buen gusto para tocar!!!muy groso el sonido rhodes.

  • dang! this is pretty cool ! I'm trying to play it myself on the piano, any chance you could send me the backing track ?

  • Great solo man. It's a pleasure to listen. I would like to play with you. ...

  • Yes, you definitely have the Hancock feel for this piece. Right in the pocket!!! :-)

  • only humans :)

  • hey there. love it!

    what is the delay pedal?

  • Comment removed

  • I'd like to say that this is the one! but don't wanna Herbie to be sad so ;)

And now more seriously... awesome groooovy this Island is :D

  • I'd like to say that this is the one! but don't want Herbie to be sad so ;)

And now more seriously... awesome groooovy this Island !!!

  • brilliant!

  • malaka... ti pezei o an8rwpos....?

  • @groovatious hey!! i didnt really expected a reply. =]. the phraze i posted is in greek ( using latin alphabet characters ) it generally means that i admire your play ( style, touch of the keys and most of all you presicion and feel on every note... ) you gave me a whole different dimention of cantaloupe island to look up to and im think im gonna try to do a similar version of it in my exams at the end of this academic year :P

  • @Rotting666Christ Thanks mate! Good luck with your exams!

  • hats off

  • is very good, show de bola meu amigo

  • Hey man!

    Great!!!!!

  • Very nice. Great feel. If you were any more behind the beat, you'd be yesterday (and that's such a good thing). Subscribed!

  • Nice!!! 3:39

  • Man this is sick...I'm a 17 year old keyboardist myself and I know good when I see it. That was freakin incredible man...you gotten the Patterns for Jazz book by Jamey Aebersold yet? I just got it and am having a ball haha but man you sound amazing!!! Much props...

  • hey man were did u get that keyboard stand??

  • @ssiimmiicch Hey mate, I found it on eBay from an online store in Australia. I don't think they sell them anymore though :(

  • @ssiimmiicch You can get a 3-tier rack that looks just like this by combining the on-stage stands KS7491 with the KSA7500 - not an advert, just happened to be doing some keyboard stand research recently!

  • give a man a lot of fun. Thank you.

  • Some laid back shit right thereeee.... yeaah

  • Just picked up a used NE2. Which Rhodes patch are you using? What are your settings for EQ ect.? Just love the sound any your playing.

    Rob

  • @Keyboardman88 Hi Rob, from memory (and listening now) this is the Mark1 w flat EQ and a touch of overdrive.

  • @groovatious Thank you. Now I just need to get a decent reverb unit. Any suggestions?

    Rob

  • wow..... very funny and well developed!!!

    greetings from Chile

  • groovalicious

  • Nice job...real nice! I see you're using the Behringer FEX800. What do you think of it in terms of build quality as well as sound quality? I know it's a cheap effects units, but I am just curious it its worth the money. Thanks!

  • You r 1 heck of a piano player!!! what is the name of the gray and red keyboard in the middle u have there?

  • @ShortBrownMC Alesis ION.

  • @groovatious How do you like the Ion? I'm really considering getting one, but I don't think they're manufactured anymore?

  • Awesome player. Very Herbie-esque but with his own twist. Some of the chromatic passages also hint at Brian Auger. This guy should do an album--I'd buy it.

  • has anyone ever noticed the nasty pitchy overtone you get on the N2 ep's when playing chords in the upper register? if you play F and A together you'll hear a F# overtone. its the most annoying and puzzling thing.

  • how are you getting that delay. I'm obsessed with it.

  • Hi! First of all... great solo man!! Second, how's the delay of fex800 (the halfrack on the electro)? what's its maximum delay time?

  • is that the mark 1 stage? what fx are you using?

  • Wahou ! Vraiment tres tres bon ! Et le son est extraordinaire...So Groovy !

  • Comment removed

  • Very nicely laid back !

  • Very nice man. I'm surprised about the rhodes sound of the nord! Wicked

  • Damn son!

  • love it

  • @fede4real the song has absolutelly nothing special.if you dont know this song, the guy is just improving on the song, and very well. The original song is easy listening stuff.IN this case ,the song is better be cos of the player.

  • This is wut im talkking about

  • woah! very cool, did you practise any classical pieces?wanna hear you doing some:)

  • @idinho Hey mate, yes, I was classically trained and obtained my AMusA Diploma in Classical piano. I don't play as much classical these days, but still love it and must play more.

  • Man, I have played piano for over 30 years... you totally ROCK!!! Thanks for posting this great video!

  • @dsm314 Cheers mate!

  • @groovatious

    you do rock :)

  • p.s. hows the ION? its one of the synths im thinking about getting to co-drive my virus. :)

  • @sacredgeometry The ION is great for 'Analog' sounding tones. Probably one of the most analog sounding of the VA Synths. The pots/knobs are great too - very smooth and no aliasing etc. I don't use it as much these days as I'm using a MacBookPro and Korg R3 to cover those bases live and will probably put it on eBay soon. For someone who's looking for a great sounding and versatile VA synth tho, the IONs are great.

  • Man...I'm a humble brazilian bossa/jazz player that really LOVES to seen you playing!!!! I've put your songs on my iPod...and I've listening a hundred times!!!! Please keep playing for us!!

Do you think nord electro 3 has the same wonderful EP sound of NE 2 you're playing? Thanks!!!!

  • Yeaaaaaaah i buy me a nord elektro lll

  • Which virtual instrument are you using?

  • @xphungsiwax Virtual instrument?

  • @groovatious i think he means the synthesizer...

  • @xphungsiwax He's using an internal Fender-Rhodes E-Piano

  • @xphungsiwax ummm the sounds coming from the nord :P

  • great performance. you play the song very atmospherically.

  • Great stuff! Have you tried the Nord Electro 3 yet? I'm considering coming over from the Roland side of the force and am not sure if it's worth investing in the new technology (for twice the price!) or going for a used Electro 2.

  • GREAT!

  • dont like so much the song ,but the player and the improvisation are really awesome.

  • @RYROSmetaldefender Oh well mate, take it up with Herbie.

  • cantaloupe island is dope... some people just don't know.

  • @RYROSmetaldefender ar eu serius that u dont like the sog? do u actually have 2 ears?

  • F'n tight baby!!!

  • fantastic!!

  • I like your chord voicings on this. Herbie would be quite pleased. Good Fender Rhodes sound on the Nord, too!

  • @drmidi2007 Thanks man!

  • Hey, how do you exactly record it to the PC ?!

  • Preeeeeeetty good! You have excelent ideas about how to use the keys in a diferent way! I appreciate that, congratulations!

  • Very very nice!! What are you using for the delay...it sounds great.....of course it's the player that makes the equipment sound good.

    Rob

  • @Keyboardman88 Behringer FEX800

  • just great dude! respect! pce

  • @Drumcorpse1993 Cheers!

  • the music in grand turismo must have been played on a nord piano.

  • @idontnoapassword Great game :) Love the music from it too.

  • what is the key you're using here? thanks much

  • Where can I get a Nord Electro??

  • @stinkbuttt Try Google for music stores in your area.

  • great playing. do you gig in london?

  • @pdhoare Thanks mate - unfortunately no, I live in Australia :D

  • i love nord keyboards...i have an electro 3, too, and everything you play on it just sounds great

  • @AddictiveRhythm Thanks man!

  • OWESOME! i love it the way you jammed with the Rhodes (y)

  • @saleall Thanks man!

  • Beautiful improvisation!! I wish I could play like you.

  • @dumchin Thanks!

  • grooooooooooooooooooooooooovy

  • cool, the Nord keys are very good and it's a brilliant song.

  • We should gig together. Are you still free during Xmas?

  • gta 2 like piano is the best EVAR

  • hello mate! in what key are u play?

  • @BladeOmegaman Hey man. The song is in F minor.

  • @groovatious THX UP MAN !!

  • very good!!! Nord Keys got nicy sounds

  • Nord's EPs are the best! Shine on, mate!

  • nice man. i like the bill evans lines

  • @Alexmg123 Thanks man. I haven't really listened to much of Bill, really must.

  • Very nice... I listened twice and will listen again!

  • smooooooooooooooth :)

  • oh this is SO good!

  • awesome man, you are great . I am getting an electro 2 in a month from my friends dad, i have a PA, should i just run it through the PA or would you recommend getting another Amp for it and if so what kind?

  • hey mate, you are playing really more than well!!! nice quart accords in your left hand...thats what noone teaches or noone points out. These are the basics for improvisations . i can only say to everyone who s interested in jazz improvisations, that this is the nearly most improtant thing in the left hand.....really sensationell!!!! i wished i could play like you! Thanks! Thomas

  • @thomas19713 can you elaborate on the left hand quart accords that you mention? I'd like to understand the technique more but like you say, its very difficult to learn to break into this style without knowing the basic building blocks. What sort of progression is going on and maybe a bit on the right hand would be most useful. Many thanks

  • groovatious could you please tell me what type of three tier stand you have n this video. I have a similar setup that I am trying to get organized. Thanks in advance.

  • @thatguychad Hey mate, it's just a fairly generic double-braced 3-tier stand I bought from eBay. Not sure if the online store still sells them - will have a look.

  • niiiccccccceeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

i don,t care what u are using there, if you play like that, you can play it on everything!

    my best compliments!!!

    raaf

  • @oogvandeengel Thanks mate!

  • Just great. Very groovy. During the solo, what reharmonization do you use instead of Fm7, Db7, Dm7??

  • De lo mejor... :D

  • Does anyone know what kind of delay he is using here? Thanks. Awesome playing by the way, very inspiring! :D

  • @ruben9288 Behringer FEX800

  • Thanks for your reply!

  • Sounds cool and lazy!

  • oh man that was sick. awesome playing. you've really got a nasty groove.

  • @gullagullagulla Thanks bro!

  • complimenti davvero,ottime soluzioni,ne prendero' un paio!

  • Very nice. Hard to imagine played any better. Kudos.

  • Great groove! Good sound!

  • Can anyone tell me what kind of gear, besides the Clavia Nord Electro, is there in the video? I'm interested in getting my hands on a decent fender rhodes/hammond emulator but shelving 1600 euros for a beginner's instrument seems to be terribly pricey.

  • Comment removed

  • I've just noticed that I didn't quite said what I meant. I meant that the instrument would be for a beginner, not that the Clavia Nord Electro is a beginner's instrument, which clearly isn't. Spending 1600 euros on an instrument for someone who can barely find a C key isn't necessarily a good idea.

  • OH, I gotcha.....yeah, if your just starting out I'd definitely say get something cheaper and then get a higher end model later on....

  • my, oh my ....cool....

  • whooooaaaahhhh!

  • Good!

  • Hi,

I was wondering, if you could give me any rehearsal advice. How does one get such a brilliant sense of timing and flow? Do I have to practise more clapping the metronom? I already listen to a lot of groovy music...

    Greetz from Germany

    Seb

  • @Basti2610 mate what you hear is players groove

it comes with the years just stay there and dont giveup thats my advice

it will click at the point where youve played more gigs than practiced at home

  • que música é essa? how music this is it?

  • Cantaloupe Island, ué. Está no título!

    Composição de Herbie Hancock.

  • brilliant!

  • I really can't understand why so many people rated you this negative. But, ok, let me help you. Those keyboards are not discontinued, the one on top is the Alesis Ion, is reasonably easy to find on Ebay, a hot toy for synthetic sounds, if you ask me. The Nord Electro down there sounding like a Fender Rhodes piano is a top keyboard, is not that rare and costs your two legs, arms and one kidney.

  • Thanks...I ended up getting a Korg SV-1...beautiful machine...I don't know why I got 6 downs either...:\ Oh well. Thanks again. :)

  • jj great groove i must say, and super sound, yeah.:)

  • very nice, dude.

  • Looking for a word to describe this... groovatious I guess.

  • Very fine !!

  • muito bom, excelente. Muito talento do tecladista, além é claro da seleção da musica....nice, very nice

  • Can someone tell me which scales and or licks I should practice if I wanna get better at jazz improv?

  • You want to start by learning all of your modes and knowing how to apply them. I wouldn't worry about practicing scales, just play the music and the rest really does come naturally. Though, I highly recommend a music theory course. Dont play a lot of music in the same key, try and mix it up.

  • i started off just messing around with scales, like the F major scale, but instead of going up 3 notes id go one at a time or maybe slide one note out the scale and quickly back in. if you go out the scale with the same notes for too long at one point of the sound itl sound bad. as avagadrostein said it should come naturally, though i wouldnt pay for a theory course unless you seriously want to get into serious jazz and your not getting anywhere by your self

  • Id recommend starting with pentatonic and Blues scales, for example for this F Blues and D blues, maybe after a while try with dorian and mixolydian mode scales, as far as i have found with licks, you tend to develop your own after a while. There is a video on my channel of this with far simpler improvisation.

    Hope that helps you sva,

    John

  • the most common ones used in jazz: half step-whole step(and vice-versa),myxolidian,dorian,lydian,phrygian,ionian.(see art. on wikipedia)I say one thing about the licks:Only work with the ones that are already "cought" in your ear.Don't force it!If you hear a really cool one, you'll learn it anyway(usually it motivates you.If there aren't such licks in your life, you're not born to play jazz,or you're younger than 14:-)))))

  • could you send me somehow that backing track i like it alot :))

  • Too bad you're living at the other side of the world. You're close the grandmaster himself here...

This is a superb performance, and so is your version of Stella!!

    Grtz and thx for uploading!

  • you sir, are awesome.

  • Juuuuuust a great performance!!!! Yeeeeah i almost got wet eyes of happiness.....Thanks fo uploading
