@groovatious This is the reason I intend to get one and put into my rig. The electro has, hands down, the best possible Rhodes and B3 samples in existence. Playing is not too bad, either.
This is really good, crazy speed! I'm gonna buy a nord electro myself, I just really have no idea what kind of amp I should buy, since I'm actually a guitarist. What amp do you use? or do you recommend another amp?
@YacobaCorral These days I'm using a QSC K10. A good quality guitar amp will actually work quite well for the Rhodes/Wurly/Clav patches (will naturally colour it a bit - not necessarily a bad thing), but the piano/hammond patches will sound bad. Something like the QSC is a clearer, full-range powered speaker which works for all sounds/synths.
@groovatious hey!! i didnt really expected a reply. =]. the phraze i posted is in greek ( using latin alphabet characters ) it generally means that i admire your play ( style, touch of the keys and most of all you presicion and feel on every note... ) you gave me a whole different dimention of cantaloupe island to look up to and im think im gonna try to do a similar version of it in my exams at the end of this academic year :P

@ssiimmiicch You can get a 3-tier rack that looks just like this by combining the on-stage stands KS7491 with the KSA7500 - not an advert, just happened to be doing some keyboard stand research recently!
Nice job...real nice! I see you're using the Behringer FEX800. What do you think of it in terms of build quality as well as sound quality? I know it's a cheap effects units, but I am just curious it its worth the money. Thanks!
Awesome player. Very Herbie-esque but with his own twist. Some of the chromatic passages also hint at Brian Auger. This guy should do an album--I'd buy it.
has anyone ever noticed the nasty pitchy overtone you get on the N2 ep's when playing chords in the upper register? if you play F and A together you'll hear a F# overtone. its the most annoying and puzzling thing.
@fede4real the song has absolutelly nothing special.if you dont know this song, the guy is just improving on the song, and very well. The original song is easy listening stuff.IN this case ,the song is better be cos of the player.
@idinho Hey mate, yes, I was classically trained and obtained my AMusA Diploma in Classical piano. I don't play as much classical these days, but still love it and must play more.
@sacredgeometry The ION is great for 'Analog' sounding tones. Probably one of the most analog sounding of the VA Synths. The pots/knobs are great too - very smooth and no aliasing etc. I don't use it as much these days as I'm using a MacBookPro and Korg R3 to cover those bases live and will probably put it on eBay soon. For someone who's looking for a great sounding and versatile VA synth tho, the IONs are great.
Man...I'm a humble brazilian bossa/jazz player that really LOVES to seen you playing!!!! I've put your songs on my iPod...and I've listening a hundred times!!!! Please keep playing for us!!
Do you think nord electro 3 has the same wonderful EP sound of NE 2 you're playing? Thanks!!!!
Great stuff! Have you tried the Nord Electro 3 yet? I'm considering coming over from the Roland side of the force and am not sure if it's worth investing in the new technology (for twice the price!) or going for a used Electro 2.
awesome man, you are great . I am getting an electro 2 in a month from my friends dad, i have a PA, should i just run it through the PA or would you recommend getting another Amp for it and if so what kind?
hey mate, you are playing really more than well!!! nice quart accords in your left hand...thats what noone teaches or noone points out. These are the basics for improvisations . i can only say to everyone who s interested in jazz improvisations, that this is the nearly most improtant thing in the left hand.....really sensationell!!!! i wished i could play like you! Thanks! Thomas
@thomas19713 can you elaborate on the left hand quart accords that you mention? I'd like to understand the technique more but like you say, its very difficult to learn to break into this style without knowing the basic building blocks. What sort of progression is going on and maybe a bit on the right hand would be most useful. Many thanks
groovatious could you please tell me what type of three tier stand you have n this video. I have a similar setup that I am trying to get organized. Thanks in advance.
@thatguychad Hey mate, it's just a fairly generic double-braced 3-tier stand I bought from eBay. Not sure if the online store still sells them - will have a look.
Can anyone tell me what kind of gear, besides the Clavia Nord Electro, is there in the video? I'm interested in getting my hands on a decent fender rhodes/hammond emulator but shelving 1600 euros for a beginner's instrument seems to be terribly pricey.
I've just noticed that I didn't quite said what I meant. I meant that the instrument would be for a beginner, not that the Clavia Nord Electro is a beginner's instrument, which clearly isn't. Spending 1600 euros on an instrument for someone who can barely find a C key isn't necessarily a good idea.

These keyboards are discontinued aren't they? I really need one, so can someone inform me of where to get one or at least suggest a good "replacement" for it. Thanks a bunch..:)
I really can't understand why so many people rated you this negative. But, ok, let me help you. Those keyboards are not discontinued, the one on top is the Alesis Ion, is reasonably easy to find on Ebay, a hot toy for synthetic sounds, if you ask me. The Nord Electro down there sounding like a Fender Rhodes piano is a top keyboard, is not that rare and costs your two legs, arms and one kidney.
You want to start by learning all of your modes and knowing how to apply them. I wouldn't worry about practicing scales, just play the music and the rest really does come naturally. Though, I highly recommend a music theory course. Dont play a lot of music in the same key, try and mix it up.
i started off just messing around with scales, like the F major scale, but instead of going up 3 notes id go one at a time or maybe slide one note out the scale and quickly back in. if you go out the scale with the same notes for too long at one point of the sound itl sound bad. as avagadrostein said it should come naturally, though i wouldnt pay for a theory course unless you seriously want to get into serious jazz and your not getting anywhere by your self
Id recommend starting with pentatonic and Blues scales, for example for this F Blues and D blues, maybe after a while try with dorian and mixolydian mode scales, as far as i have found with licks, you tend to develop your own after a while. There is a video on my channel of this with far simpler improvisation.
the most common ones used in jazz: half step-whole step(and vice-versa),myxolidian,dorian,lydian,phrygian,ionian.(see art. on wikipedia)I say one thing about the licks:Only work with the ones that are already "cought" in your ear.Don't force it!If you hear a really cool one, you'll learn it anyway(usually it motivates you.If there aren't such licks in your life, you're not born to play jazz,or you're younger than 14:-)))))

Id recommend starting with pentatonic and Blues scales, for example for this F Blues and D blues, maybe after a while try with dorian and mixolydian mode scales, as far as i have found with licks, you tend to develop your own after a while. There is a video on my channel of this with far simpler improvisation.
Hope that helps you sva,
John

the most common ones used in jazz: half step-whole step(and vice-versa),myxolidian,dorian,lydian,phrygian,ionian.(see art. on wikipedia)I say one thing about the licks:Only work with the ones that are already "cought" in your ear.Don't force it!If you hear a really cool one, you'll learn it anyway(usually it motivates you.If there aren't such licks in your life, you're not born to play jazz,or you're younger than 14:-)))))
