  • I've heard that the oldtimers would never use stones that were submerged in water, such as a river or pond.If they're submerged for any length of time, they'd soak up some water, which would turn to steam when hot enough and crack to peices or even explode in somebodys face.

  • When my dad was alive we would go looking for indian stuff in fields after a good rain and we found a huge cooking rock about 300 lbs it is about 4 ft long and 3 ft wide and had a grouve in the middle of it for grease to run off and it had the smoke buildup under it.We ever used it ourself.

  • my dad always told me rocks will explode in a fire. i am glad u posted to relieve me of this fear i have always had.

  • @mrshammerhankus your dad is right though. it happened to me once and would never do it again.

  • @mrshammerhankus it happens because of moisture in the rock. you never use one from a river or after it has rained etc

  • @mrshammerhankus never heat concrete either.. that tends to hurt

  • how is the rock holding up lol

    can u twitter with updates

  • This is awesome.

  • very cool

  • I am just guessing, that a stone supplier for house construction would probably have a piece of suitable granite I could buy. I've seen this method many times. It is important to stress that someone should NOT get there stone from a stream or creek, as these WILL explode (learned this the hard way with my first sweat lodge). Thanks for the video pal. I'm off to buy a small slab of granite! : ) ~Wolf

  • @FatDaddy4Fun Probably get a piece for free that isn't grade enough to sell...

  • Where do you suggest finding a rock like that?

  • those steaks looked gooooood

  • awesome. nice work!

  • wow thats really interesting

  • Awesome. Does the rock ever crack?

I need to try this. Ever cook chicken this way?

  • Yes I have. I find it a far more even heat then just over the coals. The rock is now going into year 4 ... some small cracks.

  • I would not have a clue, on where to find a rock like that. What kind of stone is it, and it it now non stick?

    This is just too cool!

  • cool .I love outdoors activities like this.

  • finaaly someone who can put food on a hot rock without it falling on the ground.

  • lol, aint tried that before...bet they were good :-)

  • Yes I agree! But there are times when you just don't want to wait for the coals to build! i.e. I was hungry!

  • ian ian ian, from the land of bbq. you dont cook on a flame you cook when its down to coals so yoou get even heat on the hotplate , advice freely givel lol :)
