  • I like cheese :P yum!

  • The word "behavior" doesn't contain the letter "u" (behaviour).

  • @royce487 Yes it does, its called English. As in the English language. Chiefly spoken in England. Now behavior without the U is also English. But a slightly different version spoken and spelt slightly differently. Theres other examples of this. Tyre and Tire or colour and color. Theres actually very many different examples. Try looking it up Royce once in a while, especially if you're from the United Kingdom. Thats a small group of islands west of Europe.

  • @Zooumberg Nope. You're wrong.

  • Damn what's with mike totally hammering on heavier people? What a meanie.

  • They didn't answer the only interesting question : "why ?".

  • The experiment is flawed because the teacjer was using leading questions by saying to the child .... you think your tummy is full ... whole think is a fraud.

  • this is pissing me offffffffffffffffffffff

this is TOTAL lies. telling people their eating habits are fixed from a young age. letting fat idiots blame yet another cause other than their own poor choices for their greed, and ugly waistlines.

we can change our eating habits any time we want to, and we alone are responsible for what we stuff in our mouths, and the amount of exercise we do.

stop making excuses for fatties; it is: GREED, SLOTH, STUPIDITY, and IGNORANCE.

    nothing else.

  • WHAT A STUPID FUCKING WOMAN!!! IF THE KIDS WANNA EAT LET THEM FUCKING EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • People eat more than they need because all animals do. Animals never know when the next meal will come along, esspecially carnivores. So they get as much as they can while it's available. The problem now is that food is constantly available, so this instinct to be greedy is no longer an advantage.

  • @soundslave well id rather it be food is constantly available than not, not always a problem :)

  • @guitarsly111 lol yes, you're right. But I'm saying we can't change our behaviour because it's in our DNA. All we can do it attempt to practice self control and some people are better at it than others.

  • @soundslave I think through natural selection we will lose this trait (if we sustain a civilisation like this), since overeaters will unfortunately die of obesity related illnesses (and also on the other side with eating less).

  • @guitarsly111 natural selection does'nt exist in humans anymore. Plus most overeaters aren't fat enough to kill themselves before first having children.

  • @soundslave well its a different kind of natural selection I guess; but I think you're right.

  • @guitarsly111 For the trait of obesity is to be lost through natural selection would require that the obese did not reach sexual maturity and pass on their DNA. In my experience obese people seem to do remarkably well at sexual reproduction and we have a health service that aids them.

  • The problem is not the children, it's the sweets. They can eat all they want of the pre-agrarian foods that they are biologically adapted to without experiencing any health problems as a result. Whereas, if they are given plenty of sweets, they will eventually develop chronic health issues.

  • Kids don’t love sweets. Sugar is a drug. Like cocaine. They simply get addicted.

  • That's bit judgmental in my opinion. Kids love sweets. It's not fair to test them like this. Put a proper meal after their regular meal, I doubt most of them will eat any more. (At least that's how the four year old behave in my house.)

  • Kids like sweets, of course some are going to want to eat them. I didn't see any who just picked up one or two and then carried on coloring in there, which would make more sense. If you offer most kids a sweet after a meal of course they'll take it. The problem lies in taking too much all around your meal, not just dessert.

  • Not a very scientific study in my opinion.

  • A great finding I too am of the belief that meals cut into quarters is a definite means towards reduction of over consumption, however issues such as depressive eatings disorders are somewhat more difficult to overcome perhaps distraction like drawing and colouring in could be a suggestive approach. How clever to use the diagrams of intestinal system depicting the empty to full state perhaps these could be displayed at the entrance of restaurants and eating houses that populate society.

  • try using some greens, broccoli and they all pass

  • why not just do an entire 1- 2 hr long documentary on this aspect psychology (people's habit develop at their early childhood and depending on the environment, they might very well continue to display the same trait in adulthood) with more in-dept information and statistics?

  • @justkiIIingtime I'm pretty sure this is a clip from a full show.

  • @chocolatecauldrons Indeed it would be - the show Horizon has been running for years on the BBC - usually pretty entertaining and informative it is too - even if you disagree with the subjects.

  • seriously, bbc's science documentaries are getting more and more far fetched.

i never liked overly sweet foods even as a kid. what makes this researcher think everyone does?

  • @reinux I agree. Do this same experiment, except you place food that is actually attractive to the child in front of them and see if they still push it away. I also don't like the fact that it is all being blamed on "psychology". What did these children eat for lunch? Most current nutrition researchers believe that what we eat actually causes us to be more or less likely to feel as if we can eat more.

  • the same chocolate bars here in the US would have about 1000 calories, taste half as good, and all the kids would be scarfing them.

  • Hey drug addict, want some drugs? Yes? Oh, well that WAS surprising.

  • I hope you guys realise that this is an april fools joke (i would think(hope))

  • Shove some lettuce on a plate and see how much gets consumed.

  • What about someone who doesn't like to eat at all, and only does so to survive? I would love to see a study on that...I mean myself.

  • Interesting ...I wonder if the results would be the same if veggie snacks were offered or if tiny cracker/sandwich snacks were offered

  • ...or way more likely to be true than what you say either. Enough OK? Have a nice day.

  • I would like to see this experiment again but with cucumber stick instead or any other boring food product. The question was why people persistently eat more than they need to.

  • @Lkindt I doubt you'd see any interesting behavior unless it was food that people wanted to eat. Like the lady said: you observe that kind of overeating when the food is interesting and attractive.

  • @Lkindt well they did say that for some people as long as the food is attractive, they may continue to eat. So yea they should have done the opposite, to see if that hypothesis pans out.

  • @Lkindt: Try that in Afghanistan! Kids there reject chocolate in favor of refreshing yoghurt drinks with cucumber, mint, etc. And I have to say, if it’s really hot, nothing can beat those drinks.

  • I think it all comes down to whether or not you've got a sweet tooth. I will never turn down dessert, it's pretty much physically impossible for me. It doesn't matter if I am completely full, my mouth will still water at the sight or mention of something sweet.

  • try using some greens, i bet they all pass

  • @demonyaj1 It had been explained, quite briefly, as to why "party type food" was offered, The professor had said "...attractive and good tasting, happy to carry on eating." Even at meal time and when hungry, most children will and do pass up their greens.

  • @demonyaj1 you weren't listening

  • How many generations of humans have lived with the abundance of food we have today? I think some of this gorging behavior is in our dna the same way some other animals will gorge on food.

  • I eat a ton, and I eat till the food is all gone, even if it pains me! I love it, thoguh it has made me into a rather large fellow. I think I have what these kids have, but I would not trade it in.

  • same test 20 years later with bottle of alcohol ... and there is a big correlation

  • Is that woman sucking a lemon or chewing a wasp?

  • simple those kids ate more coz their parents won't allow too many candies at home to the others isn't much of a novelty and a plate full of choc won't make them as anxious

  • @CuteTeef or maybe they ate more BECASE their parants allow it to them and the others don't because they do what thier parants tell them?

simply stating something doesn't make it true, even if it sounds reasonebel

  • @DarkLion1989 so simply you, them or me stating something doesn't make it true either, even if it sounds reasonable -it's just our opinions.

  • @CuteTeef true, but what you wrote wasn't an opinion, you pretty much stated it as a fact

and you - no offence - are just some randome person on the intenet while she is a known Psychologist

what she sais is way more likely to be true than what you say

  • Some people like to eat. Is that so wrong?

  • @willminkorea: Very much so!

  • Yeah, that's me lol. I eat because it takes good, not cuz I'm hungry. If there's food I'll finish it, even if I'm full. It's really annoying -.- Sometimes I feel so full that I'll vomit if I eat more. 15minutes later after the food has settled I'm eating again. WTF is wrong with me? Lol. Anyways, I do loads of sport and I eat too much healthy stuff so it doesn't really affect my weight. =D

  • @SuperSonicLollies "I eat because it takes good"

  • This is a very good idea since my friend's eat at least double the amount of food than me but still keep a slim figure.

  • the music is wrong but good BBC study
