I have seen Chris Cornell live many times, with Soungarden ,Audioslave and solo. I can tell you that then phenomenal vocals he displays on the albums do not carry over to live performances. This is true with most (not all) vocalists. Recording an album is a trial and error process with many, many takes to get it just right. In other words, for a live performance, this is excellent.
its pretty good but i feel like ur trying a lil too hard and at some points in the song it seems like ur yelling into the mike not singing but hey what do i kno jus thought i'd give my opinion keep it up
Probably the best rendition on youtube (besides Cornell). You get the neg. comments because you are a cut above....most of the other versions on youtube are just woeful yet they get nothing but good comments! My 2c worth - everyone who's posted a rendition of this song seems to forget it's about being in prison. May or may not be directly relevant to you, but a situation you've encountered in your life may be metaphorically similar. And so sing about that...good luck with it :)
Its a great job. Really great. Funny thing is this video has more views than Chris Texas 2000 performance. Which is an amazing amazing version. Good job man.
The reason the second verse is missing is because this was originally done as an audition tape that couldn't be longer than 3 minutes. Had to cut out a verse and still ran over....ah well.
If you can do a cover version like this, I guess it must be sad. He's singing it with an awesome voice. Great guitar style. He's feeling the song. But it's sad because I'm sure he's thinking, "Why haven't I wrote it". You're great man.
i've studied classical vocals and SLS with Seth Riggs. Everyone calls it vibrato because thats what it is. And technically he is a violin because the voice works the exact same way. You stretch the cords to change pitch just like a violin and you also can control how much cord closure you have with your voice just like fretting a violin. The less closure the lighter the voice. No closure is falsetto. Ever wondered why chris sounds like he's singing in falsetto in some live stuff. less work..
Lol, jealousy.Amazing job, Chris cornell is a tough vocal act to follow, considering his ability to hit power in his head voice, much love and props to you Stack
nice playing..put more soul into it.. when you yelled out that middle part, it was really good.. that's how you should do every part.. good cover though.
Too cool. Come to san diego I'd like to see you play. A youtube singing lesson would be great. I love cornell's voice and you got alot of it and may take it in a different direction soon. Be proud
Also, I agree with Mikestheman. It sounds a little bit too reserved. Like a cleaned up for the general public version. Try singing it when you are tired or pissed.
I agree. Its too "Radio" sounding. Its a dark song. this guy is good dont get me wrong. But he is also missing that key string bend that kinda gives the song a twisted sound.
I would imagine that it would just sound like shit if you tried to play this track and sing it at the same time if you were "tired or pissed" that comment is idiotic davec3487, this guy does a great job covering this song, he has a great vocal range, and is a very great musician to!!!
You should listen to some of his bands stuff on garageband dot com their songs are fantastic!!!
I think hes just trying to say in nicer words than what I will use. That he obviously uses Pert Plus in his hair before he styles it with his blow dryer. There isnt alot of angst soul in his voice. Nobody said hes band man. Relax...hes more comparable to Brian Adams then Cornell.
Ok dude your a good singer and you can play the song ok on guitar. My advice to you is to quit trying to sound so good and sing it with some heart. the closest you came to sounding genuine is when you first scream change. Other then that I think you need to put some soul into it bro. You haven't convinced me that you've seen a black day in your life lol.
freaking A!!

Choking ghost was awesome. Landslide was a great song. Numira was also too good. You can't be too good or else you never get a major record contract.

Anyway, this in my opinion is musically excellent and you put the right passion to it.

I did not say he is not good. He is. I just think he is not capturing the dark, frustrated, angry etc. attitude of the song.
davec3487 3 years ago 2
And you reckon that being drunk or tired is going to allow him to capture that feeling that you are talking about?
Somehow I don't think that being tired or drunk would help him perform this any better than he just did!!!
