i love this song. it was my favorite song my high school choir ever sang. the melody is so beautifully haunting. i got chills every time we sang it, and still do when i hear it even now. great job!
great song/great performance! it was excellent!! I also sang this in school and it gives me chill to hear it again!!!! We also did this with our men's ensemble.
It's kinda sad though. The song was talking about not letting music die. And look at the audience :( We all need to support the singers more. especially the parents. How many kids are singing and how many parents could possibly be in attendance here??
we are singing the satb version of this song right now. this is just as beautiful. i just wish the "no alleluia" section was stronger. good for a small group, though.=]
We're singing that version in my high school choir, too. My favorite part is when the sopranos sing "Soli deo, gloria!" and everyone else is going "Awake, awake!" x3 It's a beautiful piece.
OMg this is like the 5th piece ive watched on youtube and ive listened to many more on CD but not one group has said this one line right...And tear drops fell like Rain...they always do it straight eighths when its marked as a Quintuplet!! owell.....
-the accompanist could have, and should have, practiced a bit more
-their diction could improve
-and even though Tassadar11 can't spell one word, which is hard to spell in the first place, he's right. There was barely any emotion in the piece.
I am trying to point these things out without sounding like a complete jerk, so if ive rubbed you the wrong way, my apologies, but i couldn't not say something.
This is a powerful song! I have sang this song wit a couple of choirs and it's wonderful! The video sound was horrible though, but I enjoyed singing in the concert!
This is an awsome piece of music. It really speaks for itself. I had the privilage a year ago to work with Joseph Martin on this piece of music at Alabama All-State Choral Festival it was truely amazing, we actually talked him into playing it for us at the concert. Best experience ever.
I just sang this song with a mass choir in Carnegie Hall in the Stern Auditorium on Perelman Stage. The acoustics in that room are amazing and singing this song with a full orchestra (being one the first and only students to sing this score) it was absolutely amazing. Joseph Martin wrote the score specifically for the performance.
The accompanist is an undergraduate student and was basically sight reading this piece because our accompanist we had rehearsed with bailed on us soon before our concert. This is a student-led group and brand new at that, so we could not afford to pay someone to do it. She actually did a wonderful job considering the circumstances.
The video and audio quality is very bad, it does not accurately represent what the concert actually sounded like. There are plenty of crescendos, no "CREShENDOS" though.
If you're going to critique this piece, at least know how to spell your musical terms. Also, being an experienced accompanist, I know how hard it is to sight-read a piece like this(see comment above), so kudos to the accompanist.
I'm here, and there were plenty in the song as well.... For the size of the group i think you guys did an excellent job but the one thing that gets me that you needed more K in the awake section... I don't know how many times I've been told this while practicing this song, and it wasn't until i heard it done by another group that i realized how important the percussive K is.
It was very, very nice. Amazing song. Sung for Central Arkansas Region Tryouts in 2007 for the mass choir. Amazingly beautifull. The volume on the video itself is a bit low, and accompanist was slightly off. Otherwise absolutely stunning!
Love this song, I performed it 2 years ago with my High school mens ensemble singing the Tenor 2 part alone with 4 tenor 1's 2 bass II's and 2 baritones, I held the balance pretty well, I like ur performance, I dunno if it was my ear being off but the accompanist may have it some wrong notes here and there
That bass. Oh lawd. <3

but in the music it says you can take it as you want it. so it really doesn't make a difference

They are good, a few things though.

If your going to be a dick* about it with my poor spelling/grammar, sure your correct. the piano player did not make it obvious.
