  • The "Hot Cake" isn't a dumble style pedal either...

  • i don't get it, this was confusing and disorienting!?!

  • PURPLE LED'S ARE ULTRAAA BOUTIQUE!!!!!

  • PURPLE ARE ULTRA BOUTIQUE!!!

  • Dude's clean sound is garbage.

  • @TTmaniax thanks man, that's because of PRS... :-)

  • @spiraless I was gonna blame that digital rack you are running.

  • @TTmaniax yes, I'm using an Eventide H8000FW now :-)

  • @spiraless you TC Gforce... ;-)

  • @spiraless ahh, never mind. you replaced it with the eventide... you should inlcude the ethos too.

  • @TTmaniax agree with you 100%

  • awesome vid comparison, many tnx for the job !

  • @joecruzguitar thank you ;-)

  • the sound is best without any pedal :--)

  • Looove IT!

  • Damn, that is so sweet. Love how you use overdrives with some subtlety.

  • @tatsandteles thank you, sir ;-)

  • what's the name of the pedal next to the Wah? What does it do?

  • @shmerls it's a Bumbox custom made overdrive pedal.

  • @spiraless

    Shove it up your Bumbox.

  • might a recommend the Wampler Ecstasy overdrive?

  • oh my eye C lots of $

  • @motokev :-) this is just a comparison, I don't own them.

  • Just ordered the new Gig Rig. Nice board!

  • @mazsenior thanks ;)

  • GalaxyHorse, you have it all right there in the one bag. If only there were a few more like you.

  • great pedalboard man!

but can the diezel einstein combo be silent enough for bedroom levels?

  • of course!

  • The Rock Box Boiling Point OD is simply amazing. I own a Zen Drive....but it sits on my back-up pedal board.

  • +1 but its way more expensive

  • @crice6505

Agreed. But if Tone is your objective...it's well worth the pay of 1 bar gig to spend the extra $.

  • But its fun! Trying different gear and getting different sounds is half the fun of guitar in my opinion

  • If you want Dumble tone - buy a Carol-Ann OD2 amplifier.

  • I dunno, it can get a bit ridiculous this endless quest for the 'Magic stomp-box', i still think a good valve amp and talent is all you need-fingers are the best effect of all; that's what the 'classic' tones are after all?

  • Fenerstart422 From what I have seen on Youtube you should check out the Ethos pedal if you are looking for something that comes close to the "Dumble"effect. It costs more but from what I have heard it is well worth it. I am saving for one right now.

  • jetter gear gain stage blue is not designed to sound like a dumble amp. gain stage red is the pedal for that sound.

  • wow they all sound he same, except for when u take one of and get a clean sound, the overdrives sound the same, 5 pedals and all so similar, i will never understand that

  • I have seen Robben Ford playing with just his guitar and a Zendrive pedal, pluged ina couple of Twin Reverbs and he sounds just the same.

So, for what is worth I would say that the Zendrive can get very close to the Dumble tone

  • would u say the gig rig is worth it?

  • yes, if you have a lot of pedals to switch between it's a must.

  • Which pedal is closest to the dumble tone in your opinion?

  • Well, it's difficult to say.

It will depends on your amp, guitar, cables, multi fx and your playing style...

  • I totally disagree. Nothing is as good as the real thing, but there are pedals out there that come close enough to getting the tone and feel of a tube amp. Obviously not as good as the real thing but they nail about 75% of the tone for 10% of the price.

  • you said you have one pedal now which one is it ?

  • he's talking about the zendrive i believe, thats what most people say is the closet to a dumble clone.

  • Man, you have a diezel and still you use that many pedals? =)

  • No.

I have no Diezel and I have just one pedal now. :-)

  • you need the Jetter gain stage RED ,the finest

  • my favorite is the hot cake. Will the hot cake clean up with the guitar volume knob?

  • you can have mine, unimpressive, I'm just confused as to why people think so highly of it

  • what do you use instead? i am searching for the ultimate overdrive.

  • The hot does clean up, but to my ears to sounds harsh and buzzy. The Zendrive is much better, but the wait to get one is ridiculous. Months. What kind of sound are you looking for?

  • it's not made for all amps.

  • actually the wait is only a a couple of weeks now

  • Honestly, of all the boutique gear I have played, the Hot Cake is the worst pedal. After that would be the Zendrive 2 with the tube. Those single 12AX7 pedals on the market all sound so lame.

  • even a vintage bk butler?

  • great stuff, and this has probably already been said, but the MP LGW was never intended to be in the dumble family. Would love to see another demo like this with the Fuchs Plush Drive, Zendrive2 and Ethos!

  • the zendrive2 is more of the same, theres just a tube in it, but to my ears there isn't that much of a difference

  • you need more shit... you dont have enough. I think if you buy 46 more pedals you MIGHT get a good sound LOL.

  • Actually, I have no pedals at all.

This is just a test and I sold those pedals right away after.

    Thanks for watching me...

  • hahaha why?

  • Because I have a Fractal Audio Axe-Fx Ultra now.

    It's everything I've ever need...

  • I love the playing ,I just got a new pedal board, Where did you get the 1/4 connectors, and the wiring thats awsome looking how they coil..

  • diezel amp aint hurting nothing either.....killer pedals. Great tone and playing. The only problem is that they are all so similar sounding, lot of money to have a bunch of pedals that sound just alike. They all have their nuances, but lot of money for a little nuance

  • Wow! That made me just go take another look at the GainStage Blue! New setting. . .COOL!

  • Great playing. What guitar are you using?

  • Hi

My friend use a PRS Custom guitar.Thanks.

  • All of 'em sound pretty decent except for the Hot Cake which didn't cut the mustard in comparison ...

  • definitely the best pedal testing video ive ever seen.

  • Zendrive

  • zendrive wins for me.

  • Love the GigRig system!

  • Now that I've read all the comments I understand what's going on here. Thanks for the demo - Excellent guitar player too!

Tip: I just installed a Logitech S220 speaker system for my laptop.... very helpful for this demo and very affordable. Laptops are notorious for cr*p speakers.

  • Nice dirt pedals sir, Nice playing iam planning to get an Overdrive pedal thanks for the video it helps.. One more thing if you dont mind which one is your favorite?...

  • who is this guitarist? he is awsome!! does he play in any bands/recordings?

  • Out of interest I was wondering, is that a Pedaltrain 2?

  • Great playing.

  • I wish I couldn't hear the acoustic sounds coming from the guitar - it's distracting and puts a bunch of clanging popping sounds all over everything. That's my only complaint.

  • Now this is my kind of pedal board... Super nice rig and great playing.. Sounds incredible..! What model PRS are you playing and what pickups are using.. Also what is that main board called that you are interfacing your pedals into.. great set up.

    What model amp?

    Kudos from Vancouver Canada!

    Christopher

  • Awesome pedals, I love the Zendrive (who doesn't?) but I wanna see it up against a Jetter Gain Stage Red.

  • I read an article online about how the Jetter GSR is a copy of a Zendrive. It showed how a guy took the 'goop' out of the Jetter pedal and then compared it side by side with his Zendrive, and they were the same.

  • Not true at all, own both and imhumbleo the GSR sounds better.

    the Red it is.

That on the page is BS

  • ok. I was just relaying the exact fact that i saw on the internet. it was in no way my opinion and isn't disputible.

  • I know, i was just stating what it is only my experience with both pedals, great pedals by the way.

    Take care Blahman!

  • yeah I love my zendrive. it's my favorite drive box, and I am going to get an Xotic BB preamp for higher gain Marshall sounds.

  • the two together sound REALY good together. I put the BB in front of the zen. Carlos Santana like sustain and compression.

  • i'm leaning towrds the zendrive and the catus crunch, the latter gets a good robben ford tone

  • Man, you have the best of the best gear, even Eric Johnston would have a hard on here.

The best thing is you play great and use them lightly!

I have just made up my mind to order a Zendrive from your demo.

    Cheers Bro.

  • no stuff! the zen seems to be it.

  • i am so lost watching this demo - i cannot tell what pedal is on at any given time...sounds great though.

  • What amazing playing and gear! Great demo!

  • you have soome awesome gear

  • the connecting metal topped cables between the pedals look as they have a good quality. Which ones are theses and where can one get these? Thx for the answer. Good playing!

  • The black are George L and the white are Fender.

    Thanks!

  • i ....want....a....pedal..

    who makes these?

  • Great way to compare pedals! A+ for effort!

  • Very interesting and informative video!

  • Oh shit!

    I want that wooden box!

what's that? A bumbox?! How can i get it?

  • very useful thanks. Zendrive now on order!

  • Thanks for doing this. My name is going to come up on the zendrive waiting list fairly shortly and this video reassured me I'm right to get it. The mad professor pedal sounds awesome too, but I just can't get behind the BJFE stuff...too darn expensive.

  • Thanks for doing this. My name is going to come up on the zendrive waiting list fairly shortly and this video reassured me I'm right to get it. The mad professor pedal sounds awesome too, but I just can't get behind the BJFE stuff...too darn expensive.

  • What a great way to demo these pedals. It was very generous of you to take the time to make the video. Thanks. Like someone else posted, the zen drive and jetter sound best to me.

  • zen drive and jetter sound best to my ears

  • Is that a MIDI switcher for pedal effects? Sorry but seeing that huge switch board and all the pedals on makes the video very misleading.

  • Hi!

The switcher is a Gig Rig MIDI 8, but just one pedal at the time was used and no other pedals, racks, processors was used for the test!

    Thanks!

  • Awesome ,no, killer, no, Totally Killer Awesome Demo. Yeah! Dude where did you get the pedal between the switcher and the wah, I am guessing that is the bumbox?

Great Job!! Well organized set up too.

  • Thanks!

  • Great Demo!

Very clear to see which pedal is being featured

    Very sweet playing as well

    Harry Jacobson

  • Thanks!

  • btw, love the cactus crunch the most.

  • i don't know what all the complaining's about man. i thought it was excellent. i've tried so many great OD pedals but never really got the chance to compare them side by side to hear the sometimes subtle difference. and here i get to hear em all next to each other without so much as paying for internet access.

superb demo man. love ur equipment. love the sounds.

  • Thanks!

  • Oh yes! the sounds I like :)

  • Drives wonderful, top-line equipment and good guitarist = sound great, congratulations!

  • man I love that gig rig! I have been looking at one for ages, can you route effects in front of your amp, and in the fx loop? I just bought a timefactor, and Its a little noisy if its not in the loop.

  • Great sounds but as far as a demo this sucks. Most of the time it looks like there are three or four pedals on at once. If you demoed them individually, it would be much more helpful.

  • Ok!Let me explane one more time!I have a Gig Rig

Pro to switch between the pedals and that's why all the pedals are on! But the test is to compare this pedals ONE by ONE, so every time you will hear just ONE pedal at the time is that

    clear?

  • I saw your pedal switcher and thought that might be the case but it's still confusing unless one reads all the comments below. Maybe if you explained this at the beginning of your video you wouldn't have gotten all of these type of comments.

  • you must be a fucking retard! have you never seen a switcher before? good lord......

  • The head of my johnson has more brains than you, punk.

  • Have you heard of Brain Wampler? he has a new pedal out called the Ecstasy, that might be worth checking out :)

  • dude, are you fucking retarded?

  • No, but you might be.

  • I would assume the $5,000 Diezel has more to do with it than the pedal! Diezel is the shit!!!

  • I can believe what you say about Diezel?!

This is by far the best amp I've ever had and believe me I own them all: Fenders, Marshalls, Soldanos, Vox, Bogners, Mesa Boogies, Cornfords,

    many "boutique" amps etc.

  • "The shit" is an idiom in English which means "the best" or "great" or "the thing to have". So, this guy is complementing your amp.

  • Thanks for this comment!

    And sorry for this misunderstood!

  • Heheheh.

    He's a ballah! LOL!

  • Very helpful demo, I specially like the Zendrive. My only complain is about the reverb, I would done it with dry signal for a beter hearing of the tones.

  • wtf are you doing?

  • That Hotcake would sound a hell of a lot better if you ran the Presence control a little higher. I usually set it within 1 "hour" of my drive control for the richest sound. Too low and it gets scoopy.

  • Thanks for the testdrive. It's not often that one gets to try these pedals in person.

  • dumble and zendrive = robben ford and larry carlton!! which = beautiful sound and amazing tone!!

  • I don't know true Dumble tone, but I do like ALL of these pedals, and that Diezel!

My modest OD pedals are a kick - I bet having all those is a real GAS. Bottom line is all yours sound great to me.

  • I'm sorry, maybe it's my computer speakers, but all have a really similar tone. Don't get me wrong, I'm into gear too and you have some great stuff. I'm glad you did this comparison. I have a Zendrive on order myself and can't wait to get one, but I also see that I can buy anyone of the pedals you have and get the same basic sound.

  • i am an acoustc fingerpicker, but also in a funk/jazz/r&b type band, just bought xotic ac booster, fulltone ocd pedal ,ect, great stuff but im pushing damn buttons and twirling freakin knobs for hours ,get the nice sound and then on the gig sounds different, i need to practice and play guitar other than screw with effects, they are nice sometimes but take away from actual playing, larry carlton is going straight in to his dumble nowadays,to each his own i guess

  • cascading four overdrive pedals? wtf...

  • There is no cascading overdrive pedals here!

The goal of this test is to compare very high end overdrive pedals one by one!

  • Actually, I thought you were cascading them at first too since the LEDs for all the pedals were on at the same time. Only later did I notice that you were actually switching pedals with your switch board. So I think HubrisTenebris made an honest mistake when he made that "cascading" comment.

  • I think you guy's are missing the point. Read the title. Notice "Pedal Test". The only way to truly compare these pedals is to line 'em up side by side, and let 'er rip. Who cares how much money they spent? We all get the benefit of a great comparison without having to pay for anything but internet access. Thanks for posting this great video. My Zendrive is due this week. Now if I can just talk Nate into building a pedal for me!

  • Thanks!

You are the only one who knows what going on!

  • I think you have some really good equipment, but as someone else said, each pedal sounds pretty much the same. Why buy so many if they don't have different characteristics to them?

  • All I can say is that every pedal is completely different from the others!

  • flownomis, if you're not going to use it, then you're right. That many pedals is a waste of money. For those that have to cover different sound territory for studio gigs/covers or even just playing what sound they hear in their head, they can INVEST in these pedals to cover what fits the music. Would I pay for all those effects? Absolutely not- but I know guys that do and have good reason to. Take care.

  • ive forgotten, it seems to me that every pedal gives the same touch of distortion, you neraly hear NO difference. and dont tell me that ive got no knowledge about guitars and sound. the fact is that this looks like a controlling board at n.a.s.a . just wasted money . or was ray vaughan playing 30 distortion pedals in a row? ^^

  • Open your ears man!

There is a quite difference between them!

  • Actually, I thought they all sounded pretty similar too. Perhaps in person there is a lot more distinction. Maybe I need to turn my computer speakers up.

"Quite a difference" to me would be like comparing a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 to a Boss MetalZone.

  • Actually on second listen I do hear more of a difference. I like the ZenDrive and Little Green Wonder the best. To me, they sound smoother than the others.

But on stage with a band, I would suspect the differences are negligible. They all have the same "flavor" of distortion, the dumble flavor!

  • what the fuck ^^ why using that much pedals? wasted money, better imrpove your playing than using a million pedals, the amp is enough for a great tone.

  • The Diezel Einstein is a great amplifier but those pedals gives me all the flexability I need and all the sounds I ever need!

  • You guys have to keep in mind that he's using a $3000+ amplifier that I know from first hand experience sounds amazing. I'm sure you won't get the same sound with the pedals playing through some crap solid state amp. Just food for thought.

  • It's true!

Diezel Einstein combo price in USA is over 4000 USD but those pedals will sounds great also with every tube amplifier!

  • The combo is about 3200 bucks in the U.S. I have a 100 watt head and it kicks ass. Nice playing and you have one hell of a pedal collection. Rock on dude.

  • Hey, thanks for that man! Really a great sound!

I like the Zen what´s your favorite?

  • Thanks!

My favorite is the wood pedal(Bumbox Special Overdrive)!

Value for money: Barber Small Fry is the keeper!

  • It would be easier to differentiate between the pedals if the guitarist played the same phrase for each.

  • pedal porn

  • Yeah !! What a amazing song you have with the Zendrive and.... the bumbox !!

    AK47

  • Thanks a lot pal! Great pleasure to hear finally such a test!

  • It's a plesure for us!

    Keep rockin in a

  • free world!
