  • Most of these comments make me embarrassed to be human.

  • 35mpg combined? So they get 12.5mpg each?

  • ....As if there was something wrong with a 'Ron Paul speech'. How's your 'change' been by the way? More of the same eh?

  • I would love one of those. Also read a good article about the same at fasteconomicalcars (.) com

  • Actually the new diesel motor are much cleaner then petrol (gas) engine. Check latest diesel engine from Peugeot.

  • this is bs and completely misleading. they get 35 mpg, but they are diesel engines, diesel is extremely toxic, and that's why they don't pass the emissions test. good diesel cars can get 60 mpg, i think a VW golf can do that. gas, as dirty as it is, doesn't have as bad emmissions as diesel cars.

  • it's bullshit. they are fully allowed to sell diesels in USA. indeed they do!

it's just that A) they don't think you want them and B) diesel is still fossil oil and not an actual solution. it's complete bullshit.

all cars could be made much more efficient, the douche bags are the car makers. and you the ignorant people for not demanding better. and gov for not forcing the stupid evil automakers to do the right thing. what we need is electric cars. not bs diesel

  • the efficiency of an internal combustion engine is only 25% at best, Electric is in the high 90's. Im with Chris on this.

  • In the late 90s GM had the EV1 which use no gas at all. Ford, Toyota and Honda had electris cars too until the Auto Industry faught the Califronia Air Resourse Board with the help of Bush and won. Find the movie "Who Killed the electric Car"

  • Ever notice Efficiency, not spelled right, gives an insight into how much people care? Imagine a War of Attrition, where resources are scarce. An M1-A1 won't last long with a jet engine. Neither with a Humvee.

  • Why does the interviewer look so bored? This guy is telling a pretty interesting story for a cheap ass talk show like this.

  • I have a production ready alternative energy that is 100% zero fuel running cost, 100% GHG emissions free, 100% inexhaustible.

It can power up cars, ships trains, power generation plants.

    Technology is mass production ready.

JV Euro 500 million. Technology Transfer Euro 100 million plus 15% royalty. 100% Outright Sale of technology Euro 10billion.

    Dr. Patrick Vincent Tay

  • also a vw lupo diesel gets 70 mpg highway.

  • 35 aint that much for a diesel. a subaru outback diesel (which is a big ass suv) gets 40, and that's average in europe.

  • If God wanted us to drive communist diesel engines that are loud he would have made America a communist country. If God wanted us to drive liberal hybrids he would have made America the land of Satan. But God didn't want all this crap. God wanted us to use oil and thats why he gave us George Bush and John MacCain to put the fist to the arab islamics and make sure we get that oil. Hybrids suck because they are liberal and environmental. Amory Lovings is an idiot.

  • Yep, diesel engines are communist. :P

  • You're a real credit to humanity. Please breed as much as possible.

  • the fact is, that americans are scared because they consume less with the same amount of money! is not about fuel efficiency, is about consuming more!

@dupers89:"im sry that over here in America we dont live up to the standards of the fag ass Europeans"; we have completely different standards and styles of life. As a matter of fact, were i live, i begin to see more and more americans coming to settle down. Do they like the fag ass european lifestyle?

  • If you want to find out more about alternative energy and cars, Watch the show: "who killed the electirc car?" and Ecotech Episode 1. The first one talks mainly about the EV1 car and the reason for it's disappearance, the second one talks about the new technology's that's been developed. Do some research about the "Hypercar".

  • I don't wanna be offensive or hurt anybody but if an American's idea of energy efficient is 35 mpg then, I'm scared. Your average European family car does 40 mpg, no hybrid drive, not some dodgy Prius or anything, just a normal, family car. Energy efficient is 70 mpg.

  • he said 6 cars that ALL TOGETHER make 35mpg which means they give about 5.83mpg

that's why it's so efficient! lol I would love to have one of those cars (if they really exist)

  • Ron Paul!

  • The reason why those trucks fail emissions is because we have crap diesel fuel to begin with. European diesel is extremely clan burning and works wonders. If we used the same fuel (and I do not remember the retarded reason why our government does not use that diesel).

  • Diesel is great for future cars, the problem is the cars we already have. In my opinion suplemental hydrogen is the best solution for our current gas guzzlers.

HHO(hydrogen, hydrogen, oxygen gas) can be made on demand with a simple device that many on youtube are developing in their own garages as a type of hybrid conversion.

The use of hydrogen not only increases fuel economy of gasoline, but also diesel.

It's nice to have a hybird fuel equivilant to 130 octane gasoline, and is free.

  • yea over here in the UK we have a VW that does 83mpg and its clean full catalyst converter emissions are less than 0.75% in fact our diesels are more pollutant than petrols now over here in the UK.

  • Diesel is the only way to go. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram with the Cummins Diesel. I removed the smog crap on it, and it runs better and cleaner. The emissions test ran cleaner than it did new. New it ran a 14% particulate test, it now runs a 11%. Fail is 35%. It gets 25 mpg. Because the diesel gets better mpg, it costs more to drive a gas Dodge Ram. Even though it has higher diesel cost, its cheaper because of the higher efficiency. Its rare to have a 350HP 900FTLB Torque truck that gets 25 mpg ;)

  • Lets do the math... Lets say we drive 100 miles in a gas and diesel truck. I'll be nice and say the truck gets 15 mpg on the highway, even though its closer to 12. My diesel gets 25 mpg.

    Gas:

    100 miles / 15 mpg = 6.66 gallons x $3.40 = $22.644 per 100 miles!

    Diesel:

    100 miles / 25 mpg = 4 gallons x $3.75 per gal = $15 per 100 miles!

The cost of fuel is the current price at the time of writing.

  • What the hell?

    35mpg?

    That's alot :O

    60mpg atleast..

  • 35mpg is shockingly bad anyway!!!! golf and seat both make 75mpg cars now!!! Catch up USA

  • People responding to this guy (with the exception of the government preventing high milesage cars) are not well informed. I keep hearing that people say diesels only give you "couple extra miles per gallon". Thats BS. In a car in particular, a diesel will give remarkably improved gas mileage. 40+ MPG is not uncommon on a small to medium size diesel powered car (modern models)

  • Yep.

Volkswagen AG and BMW have diesel tech that can get easily 45MPG average, but the government isn't allowing it.

  • I don't know about the 35MPG cars that the government won't let us buy. That sounds silly. However, this guy is correct about CURRENT diesel auto technology.

  • Diesels can be made very clean. Check out MB's Bluetec technology. Anyway, the days of smoke belching diesel cars is long gone. Try out a modern VW TDI or any of the Quiet, smooth Diesel autos currently sold in Europe. Another advantage is that you can run them on grease, even from the deep fryer at fast food restuarants (with a little filtration)

  • exactly. Why choose diesels? Is it so that we can go a few extra miles without having to fill up? Cuz that's all mpg is for. Diesel is still bad for the air... isn't that what this is all about, saving the environment? this is just political crap.

  • !topic Geeks

  • this show is as good as your life

  • i have a 2008 toyota camry hybrid and love it. ill never drive another non hybrid car. Im looking forward to someone bringing out a hybrid truck and then im set. I own a 26 foot boat and all i want is a truck that can tow my boat on the weekends and be my efficient 30mpg daily driver during the week.

  • 102.9p per litre

  • the oil companies run the world along with the cia.they don't fuel efficient anything! 2007 is the peak production year for oil,and the supply is running out,so the usa is being scammed with high gas prices.all politicians are crooks! f em all! there were electric cars in 1910?!!!! standard oil killed all electric cars etc.politics as usual! the iraq war is about us trying to steal the oil! us government sucks!

  • In 2009 Honda will be introducing a diesel version of the Accord that is supposed to be as clean as gasoline.

  • I have a brand new Grand C4 Picasso, its not even 5 months old, and its clean, and it gets around 45mpg, and its a MPV, Oh i forgot to mention, its a diesel. So yeah, diesels aren't bad at all :P

  • 35 Miles per gallon COMBINED? I can only assume that means 35 miles per gallon with HIGHWAY and CITY combined. So your looking at something liek 19 mpg/highway, and 16mpg/city.... which isnt anything new.

  • It's averaged, smart one.

  • who killed the electric car?

  • electric cars would just cause us to burn more coal in power plants. Unless we start using only solar, wind, or hydro power plants, i think nuclear power plants are also supposed to be clean.

  • Nuclear power plants are "clean" as far as gas emmissions are concerned but, when the nuclear fuel is spent, it becomes nuclear waste and will last thousand of millions of years before it is safe for humans and/or animals to approach.

  • GM according to the movie.

  • i think for get all that and switch to clean burning fuels and/or electric vehicles, even hydrogen would be great. The problem with electric vehicles would be that we would use more electricity therefor need to burn more coal which would release more carbon emissions into the air. Unless we can switch to a new way of getting our energy like solar or hydro electric cars wont be the answer.

  • Dude whats with the Ron Paul remark??

Ron Paul is for free markets, govt is not involved.

    Veteran for RON PAUL!!!

    Peace,Robert

  • i think they WANT us to buy more gasoline...not because they have their heads in the sand but because the people making money off gasoline can make more...

  • walking is the way to go :)

  • Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car?" and you won't think so much of hydrogen fuel cells.

  • if you look up user Davidsfarm, he has a crystler van with a jetta desil engine that gets 57 MPG

  • Electric cars are the best way to go.People just have to demand them.

  • but don't you realize that fuel must be used to make the electricity lol, but not as much as just burning it in cars.

  • aren't there other forms of producing electricity?

  • the ways to produce energy that I know about are: nuclear energy, fuel, coal, water (as in hidro-powerplants), thermal energy and gas (as in the gas you use for kitchens and stuff) and also air and solar energy (I had forgotten about those two)

  • there are also fuels that come from corn and even algae! i've heard that Brazil is or already has switch over to the corn fuel, which has little or no carbon emissions i am not sure.

  • Wrong, here in Brazil we use fermented ethanol from sugar cane (that is a bio-fuel) and the cane-waste is used to generate electricity. Our cars are called "Flex-Fuel" or Flexible-fuel vehicles, this "Flex" engines work with gasoline, alcohol or any mixture of both fuels. Corn ethanol is the one that produces CO2(greenhouse gas) during ethanol production and combustion.

Wikipedia for Ethanol fuel, Corn ethanol, Flexible-fuel vehicle, Ethanol fuel in Brazil, Alcohol fuel.

  • yes im sorry i thought ethanol was from corn but thank you for correcting me, my point still stands, brazil is doing a lot better than USA in the switch to earth friendly fuels

  • No problem Nyroz!

  • well i think most of our emissions come from burning coal in our power plants.

  • Modern Diesel is very clean. Just like what he said, when the exhaust of normal driver cars gets perfected they'll put out almost no pollution. Look as the diesel Audi LeMans cars, they put out no pollution and can go for much longer than any other regular gas cars.

  • here, 1.10euro is pretty damn good for a litre. that price is like woooooooooo.

but in fairness... VW, BMW, Benz and Opel are the best.............did i just say germans rule??? ah...er, i mean GO LAMBORGHINI!

  • Electric cars are not working good these days...

The only good solution for the future would be Fuelcells!

  • hydrogen FTW!

  • I agree that we need to keep the work in the country but we cant continue to pollute to sky's and earth like this. I'm sure you know the reason why desais are bad for the eniverment and that guy on the phone said hyrbred's batteries batteris cause pollution in production they also don't elemate gas. I hate to tell you this but bio fuels do more harm than desal because of the oil used in the producten to grow the stuff to make them cause more pollution.

  • I'm replying to my own message because I went over 500 characters. Now are just say that electric cars might be a good idea if the power is not coming from a oil, nuclear or coal plant. We need to contune to look for new ways to live our lives without during harm to planet. If we dont there could be hell to pay with in a few decades. When we thought that this was a problem 20 or 30 years ago we made standers for fuel effervescence and probley saved our shelfs. We did it before we can do it again

  • Well, here's the thing. The average diesel cost is 3.77 per gallon. AND, Diesel is not very clean

  • Haha

  • 6th comment

  • i just use air to power my ride....

  • lol lime in the coconut?

  • It may be that to get the 35+mpg they had to lighten the car, and in doing so they made it so that it couldn't pass American safety standards, but it could in Europe.

There are guys working on a carbon-fiber car. They say it'll get 100+mpg and be on the market in 5-7 years.
