in case no one else has responded, i think (and i don't know ben personally), but i think he is saying that it seems like we do all the things we do without caring at all about who it effects. no one's perfect, everyone uses their time more selfishly than they ought, but to do so with little care at all, not aware of how selfish it is and how little a difference we make in the world, that's just sad.

@Cerinth - I agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. I have mixed feelings about this song as he definitely makes a point about selfish, careless people. However, the U.S. is (for now) the most generous country when it comes to helping other countries during natural catastrophes (e.g, Haiti, etc).

His lyrics may be coming true given the current national debt total and credit rating of the U.S. I think it is not #1 anymore and God is moving his blessings elsewhere.
