love listening to the bagpipes and besides "Amazing Grace" this is one of my favorite songs on the Pipes. I'm American and proud of it, America is a melting pot of nationalities/ethnicities, of which i'm a good example: Irish, Scottish, Native American (Seneca & Sioux), some Welsh, French, German and English as well. Don't hate the English, but do feel more pride in the Irish, Scottish sides of me. Then again the Americans that kicked the English out of here were some Irish & Scottish.

BTW I just noticed from one of the videos suggested on the right that the German word for the bagpipes is DUDELSACK. You know I think the germans might actually have a better word for our best instrument. Unlike so many things said in German dudelsack actually has a nice ring to it.

love listening to the bagpipes and besides "Amazing Grace" this is one of my favorite songs on the Pipes. I'm American and proud of it, America is a melting pot of nationalities/ethnicities, of which i'm a good example: Irish, Scottish, Native American (Seneca & Sioux), some Welsh, French, German and English as well. Don't hate the English, but do feel more pride in the Irish, Scottish sides of me. Then again the Americans that kicked the English out of here were some Irish & Scottish.

They chose rather than USA or Canada = visit family back home plus brothers & cousins migrated to Midlands to work in car plants. I have been there many times and see how different the countries are from Canada and America. I agree there is much more to the history of Scotland than Braveheart, and I have done my research. @bluethunder316 I don't agree with toasterboy's assertion that Scotland couldn't survive as an independent country. That of course is nonsense. However he does have a point about the way the word 'free' is thrown about on these websites. Scots are of course already free. We are free to choose which way the nation goes. Part of the union or independent. Either way we will still be free! The use of that emotive word uggests that someone else is actually stopping us from being free!

@ollytoasterboy I say when it affects our life,we need to get out.Also if Westminster let us regulate our own banks,like the SNP have been wanting for about 30 years.The crisis would never have gotten so bad here.But over in Esonia they have taken measures were it has not touched them.And there a lot smaller and poorer than us.The unionists cant be trusted,the Edinburgh tram project is proof of that.There trying to bankrupt Scotland.So we feel we need to tie our self to the UK.Read Gers report.

Westminster exercises little executive power over Scotland these days but Scotland is still represented in the House of Commons with 59 seats. This means that Scottish MPs have the power to influence legislation that does not affect their constituents, this is the West Lothian question, still unanswered 34 years on.

@legandrydirk The easiest fix is to make Scotland an independent nation, no Scottish MPs in Westminster, no English influence in Scotland but this has political and economic ramifications for both Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.Another fix would be to propose legislation preventing Scottish MPs from voting on bills that would not affect Scotland but this suffers from the same political ramifications as full independence.

@legandrydirk The third option that everyone but the nationalist parties ignore is the federalisation of the United Kingdom, granting increased powers to the Welsh Assembly, Northern Irish Assembly and Scottish Parliament while creating an equal English Parliament and reducing Westminster's mandate to foreign policy, monetary policy and defence. Also it is important to note that 60% of Scots do not want Independence.
