  • rez and geometry wars are great games but arent considered shmups.

  • Love the fact that 360 has these types of games! I prefer horizontal better but Raiden is awsome. Does anybody have good recommendations for 360 or ps2 or a link to a list. thxs let keep this going so we can get more over here in the americas.

  • is geometry wars a twin stick shooter? can i use my arcade stick?

  • @reesercliff it's a twin stick shooter so arcade stick won't work.

  • the 360 is the place to be for shmups, other then the saturn of course

  • The most underrated genre ever.

  • You forgot space invaders Evo DoDonpachi Diafukkatsu

  • REZ and Child of Eden FTW!!!

  • Some of these top 360 games were my top dreamcast games years ago.......

  • DoDonPachi is number 1

  • @mugencivic88 DoDonPachi wasn't released for the Xbox wasn't it or was it the one that got pulled off the shelves due to bugs

  • I don't agree with everything in this top 10, but def Cave FTW!!!

  • And it was all going so well until you started putting games in at the end that aren't shmups!!!!

  • I love all these games and own pretty much all of them.

  • Ikaruga is a puzzle game.

  • But with a Japanese points card though.

  • @XNoel2 yea, i have a JPN account and points. thanks for the tip. ^^

  • Create a Japanese Xbox Live account (It can be silver). You can get shmups such as Otomedius and Shooting Love 200x. :D

  • lol, you're never going to get a decent score playing Shoot 1UP and Triggerheart like that. :P

  • Deathsmiles is the only game I own here unfortunately. Is the second one just as good?

  • @jetsal yea, i got DeathSmiles 2X recently and it's just as fun as the first. worth checking out.

  • @xLiKx

    Thanks

  • Rez? Quite odd to see that on the top of the list considering the list contained nearly every one of Cave's 360 games for US systems.

  • would be nice to know the actuall name titles of the games matey

  • @indydaisy1 check the end of the video....

  • Do you think you could a remake sometime in the future? :D

  • @XNoel2 yup, I plan on doing an updated top ten in the future. I've played a lot more recently. :)

  • What is the one with the giant dinosaur? The game you show right before Espgaluda II Black Label?

  • @MrNexen Mushihimesama Futari 1.5

  • is there any game in there the american xbox can play?

  • @FloMonKish ALL games in this video were played on an American 360. Any games you saw that had Japanese text were region-free. :)

  • @xLiKx really?? where can I get those games? Are they downloadable from xbox live? thanks for your response I greatly appreciate!!

  • @FloMonKish check the end of the video where I list all the games. All the ones labled XBLA are on Xbox Live. And all the retail games not listed as Import were released in the US. Enjoy. :)

  • @xLiKx oh i didnt see that niiiice thanks a lot man!

  • No Guwange?!?!

    Other than that good list.

  • @nealnealneal made the video before Guwange came out. ^^;;

  • the number 8 one : triggerheart execelia ( or something like that ) ... You don't use the anchor button a lot i see ( first boss destroy at he's first phase... )

  • Wanted to get Deathsmiles, but it just looked too damn easy.:( Had never heard of Shoot 1Up before this, but it looks awesome!!

I wish Futari 1.5 was available in the states, have been wanting to play that one forever.

  • @TheAbsintheReviewNet

The Deathsmiles gameplay you see here is probably played on the easiest level. It is very very hard if you are shooting for full 1000 gamerscores.

  • excellent top 10. i hae the same taste as you, REZ in first . u need ( in the neaer future ) to add Child of eden , the next game from the rez creator muzuguchi san . shootemup for ever . gamertag Angealexiel.

  • We dont have Raiden IV or Raiden Fighters in Europe (among others) - f*cking region lockouts, surely it makes sense to just not have them at all and produce a small amount of games extra to the Japanese demand, then if a game is a sucess do more limited runs. Of course, thats too easy and sensible - I'm sure there is some reason CAVE doesn't wan't our money (!).

  • @andy7666

    Cry more, please.

Meanwhile, i'll be enjoying another fine CAVE release, LOL!

  • Ketsui

  • This list is now defunct,as of the end of feb 2011 thereare 10 cave releases playable on the 360 and all 10 are 10/10 games.

  • @neontetra1000 what are those releases??

  • Never really rated Rez or Geometry wars but the rest look great!

  • It's a great list, but if it were made today, Score Rush would need to be on it.

  • I know a lot of these shmups are jap releases but I wish SONY would try to get some of these titles to North America cause there is a pretty strong fan base for these type of games.

  • My list goes 1) Ketsui, 2) Mushihimesama Futari, 3) Deathsmiles. The rest can fight for scraps. ^_^

  • @asdf1000000 I really hope Ketsui gets localized .I want to play that.

  • @CasioVLtone0887 This is not a scoring video. I simply wanted to show people a taste of shmups they haven't seen.

  • Triggerheart Exelica has an anchor system that is pretty much vital for scoring and surviving the later stages. Didn't see you using it in the video at all, which gives a poor example of the game.

  • @BillyCauseyjr Most CAVE shooters are considered bullet hell. A few of the games listed are from CAVE.

  • what xbox shmups are region free? Anyone with the knowledge please provide a list. Thanks.

  • Nice list, i just wish xbox 360 had more horizontal shmup games to offer it's fans,

  • nice list..dissapointed that most people leave out one of the best SCMUPS on the 360....Galaga Legions. Anyone interested in one of the fasted paced, hardest to master titles should try to get past level 3 some time. Other than that omission, you have all the good ones covered for the 360 right now..makes me wonder how Geometry Wars can be on this list and not the game I just mentioned..I guess popularity makes the cake sometimes..not that Geo Wars isn't great..I love it also..not a top ten tho.

  • @genehord If you love old school shooters as well, Xevious is also available on the marketplace. It's an oldie but a goodie. BTW I think Galaga Legions is an incredible update to one of the first shmups I've ever played Galaga.

  • so how do i get espgaluda and deathsmiles on my 360? are they available in north america? i know deathsmiles is, but still don't know how or where i get this game! i have ALL THE OTHERS! :)

  • @matthewdoucette EspGaluda 2 can be found at any online import shops that sell Japanese games. and yes, DeathSmiles is available in North America. you can find it easily online.

  • @xLiKx so EG2 isn't region locked, but only sold in Japan, I take it. Thanks for the help

  • @matthewdoucette yea, import only. the Regular edition is region-free but the LE is region-locked.

  • @xLiKx what's the diff between the regulare edition and the LE?

  • @matthewdoucette LE has a different cover and a faceplate.

  • @matthewdoucette playasia com ebay etc

  • awesome vid. i hope duality zf graces such a list someday...

  • @matthewdoucette we all do ;D

  • @Th3dz ahah! nice!

  • Coo video.

  • nice...

    shmup never get old........

  • yeh REZ number one!!!! i need my dreamcast now!

  • Great video (saw it in the shooter thread on NeoGAF).

  • @ghibli99 thanks :)

  • Nice video all around, I liked it!

The list is solid and very helpful to beginners, though I'm not really fond of two borderliners in the top positions.

    :)

  • @KollisionBR thanks, you're not the first person to disagree with my top two picks. ;)

  • Great video, seems very helpful to newcomers to the 360 and shoot 'em ups.

  • @MommysBestGames thanks for watching! please make more kickass shmups. :)

  • @xLiKx That's the plan (and the hope!)

  • Great video and thanks for the game listing at the end :-)

  • @fleshribbon thanks! no prob ;)

  • hay Lik chan! u gotta check out Vampire Rage on the indie section!!

  • @p3ters00 oh yea, i heard about it. will do. :)

  • Used to enjoy shmups back in the 16-bit days. Have all the XBLA ones of course but a few of the import ones look fun. Are they region-free? Not great at them but are fun to play.

Great video and look forward to seeing more.

  • @Darro85 thanks, both Mushihimesama and the standard version of EspGaluda 2 are region-free. they're definitely fun and very challenging.

  • Very cool video. Except that now I'm going to end up spending a bunch of money on games I didn't even know existed. ;) Shoot 1UP and Deathsmiles both look awesome. I only wish I were better at shmups--because I'm TERRIBLE.

By the way, ever try Omega Five on XBLA? It's not the greatest shmup in the world, but I had a lot of fun with it.

  • @mormonrage yea, i have Omega Five but it didn't make it to my list. agree, fun game.

  • Great work Lik! Glad to see your project came out great. Maybe we can get a top 10 PS2 Shmup list next?

  • @wakewatermedia thanks, i don't think i have enough to put a PS2 list together. i will put together a PS3 one in the future if it's possible.
