Oh man that is awesome!!! How can you not listen to this and stop to tap your foot. You don't have to know anything about swing or jazz to enjoy this piece. It's a piano version of armstrong. Man I wish black youth would emulate these legends instead of worthless degenerate rappers.
@Dontaking2008 This song is "Cherry," not the same changes as "Please Don't Talk Talk About Me," but similar in spots (the bridge is the same changes).
I voted up but I didn't mean to. I just want to say that you are evidently a gifted and talented musician. I bet you're among the best in the world. Why don't you post a video of yourself playing on youtube"?
JB a man who lived his dreams and fulfilled almost every one, except to live to bring in 2000 and to live to be 100! Happy 85th Birthday 6/15/1922 to Jaki Byard -. (From Them..To Us!) Tell Mama I said Hi. The only consolation for me is that you are together with her and Denise and I will see you when I get there. My whoever snuffed out his life rot in the deepest bowels of the earth!
Playing drums & vibes with Jaki in late 50's-early 60's was like a history of jazz piano every nite. I went with him to play for Charlie Mingus the first time in the Village; the rest is Jazz History. al francis/jazzbohemia
Earl played in Sydney in the 70's. My father & I went to hear him and were treated to nearly an hour of 2nd-rate local musicians at the start. Hines came on at around 9.30pm, played for about 30 minutes, got up from the piano and ushered a musician's union rep on stage and said something like "you explain to the audience." The union had forced the inclusion of the local group in the act then shut him down around 10pm. Small minds in the presence of one of the Greats!
What a surprise finding those two monsters of the piano playing together. I am a pianist and I love to play Novelty Piano Ragtimes. Earl "Fata" Hines has a terrific left hand and he is one of the best piano players that I have ever heard. Thanks for hanging this marvelous video.

I hate these guys. They took all the talent in the world and left nothing for me.
I practiced for 30 years and I am now almost qualified to shine their shoes.

Rosetta
saitta68 2 years ago
Are you sure about that? The "A" sections sound like Rosetta but not the bridge.
musodave 2 years ago 2
@musodave It's "Cherry," and the A sections are similar to "Rosetta" which Hines wrote, but the bridge is different.

Not Rosetta.. but what???
Doumbeck 2 years ago
You're right, what was I thinking? it's not Rosetta, it's A Monday Date, and it's beautiful. Thank you for posting.

@saitta68 It's not "Monday Date," which is a song Hines wrote, this is "Cherry."
