    ANDREA MCLEAN 54

    FUN

  • You get what you pay for.

I use Mybusybiz because their software comes with hosting, security, and back-up.

  • Somehow i like his last words "live free or pay" . personally, you have to pay for everything, for eg, that laptop isnt free, power isnt free. so why bother spend less to get lower quality software. Pro Tool, FL Studio, Photoshop, AutoCad.... are not for beginner so why bother buying them when u know its not going to help you

  • I showed this video to my friend and he didn't listen and now is compalining about how much money has gone out of his pocket! I've paid $0.00 on software in the past two years since finding this video and I even installed Linux but recently had to Install Windows aswell becasue of some bugs Linux has gotten recently

  • good one..

  • i think it is good,,,but i've found this site :

    w w w (dot) mediatools (dot) com

GREAT ,,all are free for limited period !

  • @YouTubDownloading LOL LIMITED PERIOD? NICE ONE.

  • @standalonesolid No limited periods for opensource software. It means FREE FREE FREE with high quality. Getting everything waht you don't pay for. Not even advertising or registration tricks. No GIMMICKS! NO TRMarketing tricks! No popups,! No requests tor surveys or any other form of questionaires to wast e your time only to find out you are in the wrong country, so give you nothing/

Opensource means absoluteltely free without wasting your time. Try Ubuntu.com and you will have everything.

  • i think it is very good.

  • I would like to know which is better, Gimp or Photoshop? Many stated Photoshop is easier to use but I'm not really sure.

  • @demonkingDX Well, if you haven't already found out the info, I'll tell you now. Photoshop has many newer (and better by some standards) features that allow easier editing. It's not too user-friendly for new users though and it's pretty expensive if you were to buy it legitimately. GIMP is free and has basically the same features as Photoshop, but isn't as widely accepted. Both do the same job equally in all honesty. I suggest GIMP for anything else that isn't a job. Photoshop is for work. ;)

  • Wikipedia pwned Encarta

    Firefox pwned IE

Openoffice has already pwned Microsoft Office.

In few years u can say goodbye to Windows, Photoshop, and all the comercial crap

  • Free software at Microsoftware4u d o t c o m

  • Gimp sucks. PAINT.NET FTW!!!!

  • also a best site for softwares, free download crack softwares webgr8

  • thanks nick, have you heard of euro car parks?

  • Free means free as in freedom. It has nothing to do with cost. This video obviously misrepresents the term. Also, Audacity is not a ProTools alternative, in fact, it is funny he said that. The proper alternative would be Ardour.

  • @LouigiVerona lol he critiqued someones comment as not appropriate. open source means pro free speech, closed source means controlled not free speech. open source means that rich people do not retain a monopoly on source codes wich your seeing the internet lean towards with both music/visual media and computer programming in a lame attempt to control the marketplace and it unfortunately helps the economy collapse as no one can make any money getting sued.

  • are open source softwares free for commercial use, ie if i want to use it for my company computers???

  • @noumman yes, that's exactly what they are for. to save you money. made by people who are also fed up paying money for things.

  • I'd like to ask what free software could be used to make cartoon animation and such?

  • I don't like the idea of open source. Let me ask you

"If you were a welder, and you had the equipment and knowledge, you would weld things for free?"

I think not. And software is no different. In the long run I think this is going to hurt developers in the pocket.

Whenever something becomes cheap and easy to produce it's hurts the producer financially.

  • @BigBobsh2o, I don't agree. So, are you saying it's wrong to choose to volunteer to help others? Do you charge family and friends for every penny of your work? Ever go to the YMCA? Ever use the Libary? A lot of volunteers for that. I have many friends that are paid programmers, but outside of work they like to work on open-source projects. Do you think Companies like Canonical don't pay their employees? Open-source is a great learning tool and a way to share and improve code.

  • @phatcartoon

No it's not wrong to volunteer for what you said. But it's down right stupid to give away software the way they do. This is the product they produce. And if you make something that good you should be compensated. It's only fair.

If everyone on see and alter your code, they can steal your ideas. And since you are the creator of that product, how is that fair to you?

  • @BigBobsh2o one more thing I would like to add. I'm an artists. Computers have made making production (flyers, Logos, layouts) cheap and easy. Hasn't hurt my pocket, but actually made it a bit fatter. A lot less raw material is needed, which means a much smaller overhead. Also, one thing that helps me improve as an artists are large communities that are willing to help others. Similar to that of an open-source community. . . P.s. Sorry if I rambled on a bit. :/

  • @phatcartoon

Um, good for you? But since they saved you money don't you think they deserve something in return?

Sounds like a one sided relationship to me.

I wouldn't want to see Open Source programs be expensive like Windows, Adobe , etc. But I think $50 for video, sound, operating systems, etc is a VERY fair price.

Linux Fedora or Ubuntu for example should be sold for about $30 - $50. Given how good it is. Even at those prices it's still accessible to people.

  • @BigBobsh2o, But, I do give back. My main focus is giving back to the Blender community. Development isn't always just about programing, they also need artists and musicians. I also hang out in the Ubuntu form and try to help people with questions. As for now, i'm still doing my basics when it comes to code. My friend and I are planning on expanding the "Pencil" project. But, you can't expect everyone to give back. Sometimes giving back is just spreading the word.

  • @BigBobsh2o, As for Open-source and making money, there are many ways to make money with out selling the software. Google offers a lot of free services, but I doubt you give back, and they seem to be doing just fine. Also, the whole point of open-source is if someone wants the source code they can download it, and make changes if they like. It's a community. . . . P.s. Ubuntu offers paid tech support, merchandise , and you may also purchase a CD copy of their distro for ten bucks.

  • wb video editing software?

  • Im sorry but notepad++ is so much better than notepad2

  • ht tp :// adf. ly /3Aer

    To download free PROGRAMS

  • sourceforge ftw.

  • can't help it, but i'll belive a hippy over a corporate sleeze any day. hurray free software!

  • I personally like the KM Player. It plays many if not all kinds of formats. It is a media player. I play DVDs on it. Or stuff off the internet. Try it. And is comply free.

I have use openoffice and Audacity and they are both great. Why pay?

  • can you put link in description next time please?

  • You guys want software, this is free and it's worth hundreds. watch?v=_koBCeYIJtc

  • Use open source for home use.

  • Check my vids i give out free movies games software...just name it i provide

  • My vote goes to Free Software and Open Source/code Programs.

Also I vote for Open and Public Servers/Nodes/Hubs where "Anybody" has Free and Open Access to Info such as educational, technical and structural information specially CURRENT.

The need to keep this kind of info in secret or under economic politics it is because of totalitarist/segregational/imperialist ideologies which is totally wrong from begining to end (Only One has this type of facultities)

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • "Downside is, there's no company to call if the programs don't work."

What are you talking about? There are companies that do nothing but provide support for free software.

  • wow i got 4/5

  • Not appropriate comment for this video.

  • @stephenjudge Now CBS / CNet is getting sued by Akin David et al... a sick form of monopoly behavior.

  • Just download Ubuntu 9.10

  • god, don't even try windows 7 until at least Service Pack 2. And if you must, at least try a Linux Distro first if you're too strapped for cash to buy Windows 7. I would recommend Ubuntu. The easiest one to set up and use, has all the modern features any average user would need and it's also free-as-in-beer. It's not like I can tell you to download at piratebay from one of the trusted sources that have pink skulls next to their name which means the file is legit to download a rip of Windows 7.

  • @aboazizzi maybe buying it will guarantee you safe and good performance for your pc

  • @aboazizzi Get Ubuntu, it's free and much more legal!

  • Although i don't use Linux as my main desktop OS for various reasons. I always try and use FOSS whenever I can. Firefox, Open Office, VirtualBox, GIMP and Audacity are all FOSS packages that I use regularly.

However I've yet to come across a FOSS package which gives me the ease-of-use, functionality and performance I need for quick and simple H.264 video editing. Currently iMovie serves me just fine here.

  • This will not kill software development jobs.

This will HELP to find bugs in a very fast way(look Mozilla Firefox), plus, increasing jobs, because they love to do it. Future is coming, and we will evolve with more jobs, more than what we have now.

    Open Source is the key.

  • this will kill software development jobs.

  • Free Software actually creates more jobs, not take them away. Besides, most programmers work on in-house projects. The software used on your computer makes up only about 10% of the market.

  • how will people sell softwares if they are free

  • When talking about free software, free refers to freedom, not price. You have the freedom to run the program as you see fit, modify the source, and redistribute the original or modified versions. There are companies that sell free-software, such as Redhat (basic desktop is $80), and there is a large market in providing support for free software. It's free-as-in-speech, not necessarily free-as-in-beer.

And like I said, most software is produced in-house, sold to a specific client.

  • @Arkblu Yes, just what I was going to comment, I don't need to now :-)

So bad that free has different meanings in English, but it more bad that someone that is using free software don't even know what it means and why it's important.

If he bring up the support issue, it's just to buy a box and support is included.

But the support is very good even if downloaded for free, all projects has it's forums and maillists, and rpm -qiv package gives the email address to the authors and they are helpful.

  • BLENDER!!!

  • Oh yes, most definetly. I dropped XSI for Blender, and 2.5 looks even better

  • agreed.

  • One of the statements you made is inaccurate. You said there's no company behind much of the open source software. Often there is a company that backs a particular open source program. OpenOffice development was backed by Sun (StarOffice). Of course Sun may not help with OO problems, but there are consultants (commercial) willing to provide software support for a fee. Because source is available OpenSource is often easier to support commercially. Now if your goal is simply to sue somebody....

  • Open Source is the future, simply stop buying into paying for software that is freely available and we'll have an open world for computers, the way it was intended.

  • Thanks

  • * 0:15 *HE IS THE CATCH! * 0:15 *

  • neo office is killer for word as well

  • is there any alternative to after effects

  • I believe there is, try googling it, I am unsure what it may be. I like open sourced programs, they help me deal with everyday life. It also helps me accomodate your needs, I love oxygenoffice professional edition. Its free office with bells and whistles along with free templates.

  • Like this i will get the firefox3

  • wow!

A few things missing from open office, but I am a student (university) and I have been using for a while now. It works fine!

    Good vid,

  • I would say that protools is not the software to be compared to audacity - protools is a DAW.

Also, you emphasize the absence of price. free software is about freedom, not about prize.

  • No, Audacity is not a DAW program, and isn't meant to be a DAW program.

However, Ardour2 is a free DAW program, designed to be that way.

  • its called gimp google it also open office is quite nice actualy i know your buttons arnt in the same place but thats not an excuse to call it suck

  • we used audacity at school, it was actually really cool!

  • What screen recorder does he use??

  • Thanks for putting this up. Good info.

  • i need help plz.i have mac os x ,i downloaded i tunes but i cant install it it says "choose a program to open with"what program should i open with?thanx

  • try download it again and from the official apple website

  • protools vs audacity your kidding right

  • OMG BLENDER WOOO!

  • OpenOffice is great, as are lots of open source titles. Thanks to all the open source authors. They allow us not so rich people to enjoy our PC too :)

  • @radstorm The world is moving to LibreOffice, a branch that was made from guys who left OpenOffice because they were afraid Oracle would close it off. I use it, and it's great to me.

  • gimpshop dont work anymore its for sale :(

  • Gimp 2.6 was released very recently.. still for free and packed with features!

  • BLENDER FTW

  • ...or you could illegally take it i guess...

  • I use about half of those already

  • How about teaching us about torrents of proprietary software. I still support open source software though. Soon every thing will be open source

  • Yeah, it's good info, I suppose.. for newbies. CNet is not really on the cutting edge of GPL software, and their selections show it. But anything we can do to get people started along the GPL path is a good path. So for that, I say Kudos, poster!

  • Cool info!

  • June 17 firefox 3, download! much better than firefox 2

  • firefox is good eccept for reading my msn mail..

I keep haveing to enter my password 2 times and therefore must keep useing ie FOR THAT ..ALAS

  • thanx much bro

  • BRING OUT THE GIMP

  • I wish windows had more of a selection. I just added ubuntu to my hard drive so I can get more.

  • I have free MRR and PLR ebooks and software that you can sell on you own site for any price. just check my channel.

  • Erm, that's fully illegal dude... the bit that makes it illegeal is the 'with or without their permission'. And the viewing their webcam and/or desktop... There's a reason there's no programmes available to do that... If you wanna see people's webcams go get in touch on MSN or whatever...

  • my gimp got all messed up...

  • my gimp got all messed up...

  • VLC good because the TV and radio streaming built in free

  • audocity is awesome!

  • all leagl

  • So like, all this is legal right? I won't have an officer knocking on my door if I downloaded one of these programs?

  • Yep, 100% legal. You might even burn it to a CD; you habve the right to burn as much as you want, as long as you don't make profit of it. You might download these programs from their websites or let them ship (most of the time free!) to your home adress.

  • Okay cool! I -WAS- gonna buy Sony Soundforge and Photoshop but Audacity and Gimpshop are totally awesome! But I'm still gonna be buying Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere though. I haven't decided which but I'm trying the trials from Cnet. Thanks CNET for making the coolest thing since sliced bread!

  • I have PhotoShop (PS), I'm a student so you get a discount of around over a 1/3 of the original price. Getting it for free is illegal, however it is worth the cost if you think how much work has been put into it lol. Gimp is pretty similar to PS, some people alter the menus and commands to be on close par of PS so that they can follow the Tuts. I'm trying to get CS3 (latest version for PS). Gimp crashes a lot though with some cases, so be careful to save your work.

  • The GNU GPL licence says you can download and share the program, YOU CAN SELL IT too!

  • do you actually think fbi cares if you download warez? they say it to scare you..

  • Well, they do catch people on it in the US...

  • I already have all of those, except OpenOffice. I still use Microsoft Office 97 for that. And instead of Media Coder, I use SUPER.

  • Using Gimp, Inkscape, Open Office, Eclipse and Firefox. It's a free world.

  • Yeah, but doesn't Ubuntu only have Gnome? I like KDE. I'm-a switchin' ta Debian!

  • what about kubuntu? Im thinking about switching too

  • u could use kubuntu which is KDE

  • strange i was searching for a zombie game yesterday..

  • wow its weird since i have every single one of those programs...

    is he stalking me?

  • messenger: pidgin

    web bowser: firefox

    email software: Thunderbird

    Play music: amarok

    Burn CD an DVD; K3b

    3D Desktop: Beryl

    THE BEST OPERATION SYSTEM: UBUNTU

  • Audacity roks.

  • I must say that possibly the best thing about using something like Ubuntu is that you never have to go through all that stupid "install" stuff you have with Windows. I don't know when the last time I went to website, downloaded an installer, ran it, hit some stupid options, etc. If I want to install something, I just open the Add/Remove panel, find want I want and just hit "install" and it's there. Weird. Why doesn't Microsoft do that?

  • using Opera ;D free but not opensource

  • That's free as in freedom.

    (gnu . org)

  • I'm using Mozilla Firefox
