I found the console version to be a lot cleaner than the pc version, but that's just me. My reaction to it being Walter was "OMFG IT'S THAT GUY WHO STABBED HIMSELF WITH A SPOON!". I really wanted to see a spoon hanging out of his neck.
But, i have to agree it's not really a Silent Hill sort of game - the monsters do have the Silent Hill edge to them, but the fucking ghosts? Ugh. The hauntings in the fridge of the apartment amused me greatly. Who doesn't like a dead cat in their fridge?

i liked the fact that in the first half of the game you could go to the apartment and it was nice and bright and quiet and you could creep at the windows and doors and in a hole in the wall at your hot neighbor. and it was a free heal zone. no monsters or anything. then the second half of the game i would literally cry and shit my pants to go back to the apartment because of the horror going on in the apartment. i FUCKING HATE PARANORMAL ENTITIES AND ALL THAT SHIT. in a good way though. goodbye.
Considering it blends quite well with the second game and Order ideas, this game seems more like something intentional, but the controls and AI weren't fully tested. Hey, it's not perfect, but it is a good story to unfold. It reminds me of why it's a good game, regardless of those future pieces of crap we got from american teams.
Silent Hill 4 is actually my favorite of the series. It has its issues and it's definitely very different from the prior 3 games, but I think the plot and atmosphere are top-notch and fit right in with the rest of the series. Just my 2 cents.

I think Walter is MUCH more dangerous on the ps2 version. There he chases you around and stuff way better than this. And someone should make a Pyramid Head mod or something that replaces Walter with PH. And do you remember that you read about Walter in SH2?
The fact that Henry is NAMED Henry weirds me out. I've seen a few videos for Silent Hill 4 before, without knowing the protagonist's name, and always thought that he looked like Christopher Gorham. More specifically, Christopher Gorham's character in the series "Harper's Island," who is named Henry... Yeah, that's just...yeah.

oh, the problems you explained are very PC oriented. i can tell. pc games tend to have much more graphical and AI problems than the console games, this game is a very good example. i have this game for the ps2, the controls are really good, if a little unresponsive sometimes. The AI is just fine to me. The game can be damn scary although not near as bad as the other games. And eileen isnt as annoying as LordVega says she is on the pc. so, my advice, get the ps2 version :) i love it

This is still my favorite of the series, to be honest. It actually took the game in a new direction, was extremely visceral and wasn't as watered down as Silent Hill 2.

I watched my friend play this game for a good while and i wasn't very thrilled with it, you were right on point with The ghosts, not even scary and they looked retarded. I personally had more enjoyment in the "Fear" sense playing SH Origins which wasn't as good as the others, I personally didn't like this one. Good review and points!
i agree that silent hill 4 was quite different from the previous silent hill games but i found it to be very enjoyable and it was somewhat challenging. i think it's not as good as the previous games but i like how the characters walter sullivan and joseph schreiber that were mentioned in silent hill 2 and 3 are significant characters in this game. it's a lot better than homecoming in my honest opinion. they really dropped the ball on that one in my honest opinion

As the game procceds Walter's Sullivan power grows and tends to invade your room, this is his goal! Demons and ghosts will be seen and you will always suffer. On hard difficulty the thrill and excitement is maximised... Eilleen is endeed and undoubtly a problem, but the second time levels is what makes this game an AUTHENTIC SILENT HILL game sequel.

The ghosts are retarded, there was no REAL good reason for Akira to introduce them into game series to begin with. (aside from trying to keep up with the Fatal Frame scares) 4 was the Epic Fail of Silent Hill Games....well Shattered Memories was also a loser but @_@ at least he lost the ghosts.

oh, the problems you explained are very PC oriented. i can tell. pc games tend to have much more graphical and AI problems than the console games, this game is a very good example. i have this game for the ps2, the controls are really good, if a little unresponsive sometimes. The AI is just fine to me. The game can be damn scary although not near as bad as the other games. And eileen isnt as annoying as LordVega says she is on the pc. so, my advice, get the ps2 version :) i love it

This is still my favorite of the series, to be honest. It actually took the game in a new direction, was extremely visceral and wasn't as watered down as Silent Hill 2.

Man, the PC version sucks!! I'vejust played the PS2 version and I can say that the AI is a lot better there... Walter never stop shooting you and Eyleen is an awesome fighter... I personally like SH4 more than SH3...
SH4 was meant to be a Silent Hill since the beginning so dom't trust the people that say the opposite...

it seems like this game could be a lot better on the next gen consoles then it would have such horridly timid AI and not to mention sketchy movement animations. I just dont like how the tounges on the dogs just hang lifelesly from there mouths it makes them look funny as apossed to scary.

lol i don't think you got the idea bout Walter. He isn't meant to chase you but just be like a crazy dude that just shoots you, then runs away laughing. He is meant to be unpredictable. Also, Eileen is a pain though and I got the bad ending because of her ass. But she was better than the girl in RE4 who didn't do shit at all lol. I loved SH4 but hey, to each his own :)

I watched my friend play this game for a good while and i wasn't very thrilled with it, you were right on point with The ghosts, not even scary and they looked retarded. I personally had more enjoyment in the "Fear" sense playing SH Origins which wasn't as good as the others, I personally didn't like this one. Good review and points!

i agree that silent hill 4 was quite different from the previous silent hill games but i found it to be very enjoyable and it was somewhat challenging. i think it's not as good as the previous games but i like how the characters walter sullivan and joseph schreiber that were mentioned in silent hill 2 and 3 are significant characters in this game. it's a lot better than homecoming in my honest opinion. they really dropped the ball on that one in my honest opinion

As the game procceds Walter's Sullivan power grows and tends to invade your room, this is his goal! Demons and ghosts will be seen and you will always suffer. On hard difficulty the thrill and excitement is maximised... Eilleen is endeed and undoubtly a problem, but the second time levels is what makes this game an AUTHENTIC SILENT HILL game sequel.

I agree on everything that you said, but Walter Sullivan scared the shit out of me when I played it, just how he would pop out of nowhere and start running after you. I don't know, but Eileen really did ruin the game. It has a good plot and everything but she just really got on my nerves.

James was way better than Henry; why? Because Henry's make up is like a carbon copy of James only gayer. The only good thing that came from SH 4: The Room was the Soundtrack. The ghosts are retarded, there was no REAL good reason for Akira to introduce them into game series to begin with. (aside from trying to keep up with the Fatal Frame scares) 4 was the Epic Fail of Silent Hill Games....well Shattered Memories was also a loser but @_@ at least he lost the ghosts.

I HATE this game. Henry has is a peeping tom, Eileen is tooo....slow, the ghost were annoying, Walter was irritating, nothing was scary, well except the Twin Victims when they started running after me, and Nutrition Drink? Really? I was confused if that was the same as Health Drink.

Just wanted to let you know, Vega, there is a new Silent Hill for the xbox 360, i'm not sure if there is a PC version of it or not. It's called Silent Hill: Homecoming. It's actually really fun. I'm recommending the game to you, though you don't have to "Let's Play..." it. But it has PYRAMID HEAD AGAIN! xD Since you happen to love him so much. Though I am a fan of Pyramid Head as well...not the him chasing you bit though. V.V Anyways, just thought I would inform you about another awesome SH game

I agree about the downs of this game... however i think ure a bit harsh about James from SH2... mb u couldnt see emotions on the character (graphically speaking) but his story underneath was the most interesting compared to other SH games protagonists
This + red pyramid make SH2 the best episode...

henry never goes to the town silent hill, there isnt emotion in him, hes a boring character, he cant take many objects, eileen is so slow, there arent "health drinks" only "nutrition drinks" haha, no shotguns, no rifle, no submachine, no sword, the game is not scary like the other silent hill games. in other words..silent hill 4 is the deception and the worst of all silent hill games. so so bored..
