I did this today on my ps3 slim and it fixed the corruption loop I was stuck in. I tried pushing x at the restore screen and taking the hard drive out after but found it only worked by taking the drive out at the restore screen than pressing x. It didn't take very long for the format question to come up. Thank you very much mate.
I restored the system like 10 times (no big I dont store music etc. in there) its best to get rid of all the problems of it by just sending it in, I dont mind 10 days...im not a low life
Marktheshark711 I think ur problem is a dirty lens had the same issue a couple months ago sometimes a blueray cleaner will fix this but u may have to open it and fix manually like I had to do there lots of tutorials on how to do this on this site hope this helps
tried this on my old 'phat' ps3, but for some reason didn't work. but when i take the harddrive out it will just restart, if i leave it in on the "restore" screen it will give me and error and then when it ask if i want to format and i say yes, the loading bar starts, then freezes at 11-12% after about a minute it will shut off and beep twice and flash red. i was told the harddrive was the problem and i should get a new one. i want to save the old one, don't want to drop $30, can i save it?
Quick question, will this help someone like myself who is able to view BluRay movies, but my ps3 won't read the games? I've seen the reformat option and it says the file is corrupt and I've clicked X and it does the 100% but the same message turns up after a restart. I'm going to give this a try.
@villamayor83 if you have a playstation plus account you can save all game save data to their online storage, even copy-protected save data. or you can save your data to a usb drive or sd card and reformat then, or do a ps3-to-ps3 data transfer
@villamayor83 put all the stuff you have in the save game data utility and put it all on a USB, if you have done mulitplayer (online) progress, it wont matter, u can still format your ps3 and the online progress you have will not be deleted, if this helped please take a look at my channel and like some of my vids and sub, hope i helped, thanks
you forgot to tell them to backup their data before reformatting, you also forgot to mention in the BEGINNING that their data will be lost. also...why is it necessary to take out the drive while it's restoring the system? it's gonna format it anyway right? problem I got right now is I have 250GB of GAME data. I backed up and deleted my music and videos, but I got 35 PS3 games, 21 PS1 games, 5 PSP games, and 100s of PS1, PS2, and PS3 gamesaves, and over 60 PS3 installed game data, long backup lol
@Makurou I understand what you’re talking about. But this is when nothing is working on ps3. Even the backup does not work. This has happen to me before. Luckily I didn’t have anything important on my ps3. So whatever you put on the ps3. Keep backup files of them right away. I recommend this video to anyone with this problem on their ps3. @JonAA0880 u need to pop off the thing covering the HD on the side of the PS3. U should see like a little rectangular hole on the side, you can use a Flat Head to pop that off. Then unscrew the little screw keeping the HD in. Turn on the PS3, then as soon as that loading bar appears on the screen, make sure u carefully take out the HD, but fast. You wanna get it out when it says 0%. Wait for a few mins, it should say something like do u want to clear HD or somthing, press yes and put it back in

It works :) you will still keep your friends and if you need to re-download stuff that you have previously downloaded in PSNS you will have to go back into PSN Store, then in the top right you'll see download history. then you just re download everything :))

there is a way easier way to do this. just go into the ps3's safe mode and choose restore ps3 system. you get the same results as this but no unscrewin any shit. pm me if u need help gettn into the safe mode
@LVA2010 same with mine its because your update data was so far in to updateing your ps3 that its lost its save mode ability so what you have to do is try to what the video says to do or go buy new hard drive for your ps3 and it would work or you can take it to some computer geek and he will format it for you thats what i did
@LVA2010 no! cause if you do format it you have to use a computer and most computers use windows OS to format things and if you try that then you can mess up your hard drive so my best bet is to save up to at least 50 dollars go to a local computer store and you can maybe trade or get a new one better than 160GB (the type of hard drive i use) and thats all i can do to help

you don't need to wait 30 mins, just format it to fat32 on a computer, put it back in, then reformat it, and instal the update (OS) and done.

It works :) you will still keep your friends and if you need to re-download stuff that you have previously downloaded in PSNS you will have to go back into PSN Store, then in the top right you'll see download history. then you just re download everything :))

@RUMBO3000 My ps3 did the exact same thing and it just means you didnt take it out fast enough, after the first try I took it out fast enough and it worked .... sorta .... I accidentally pressed the power when i was putting in the hard disk and I had to do all over again it still worked though

when i turn my ps3 on it goes to this red page that changes diff languages idk what it says i can tell its an error but i can also hit middle button on the controller and turn ps3 off and controller off and when a games in i can hear the music but all i see is red screen with diff languages...... any feed back?

OKey DOkey... After installing the latest update my ps3 is freezing randomly. I have already successfully completed format harddrive, system restore and restore file system and none of this has worked!!!!!! This tutorial works on any model but on the slim version it requires more skill too take the hardrive out. I would reccomend buying a new hardrive or bringing it too best buy there geek squad can fix computers so im sure they can fix a ps3.

I FIGURED OUT THE PERMANENT FIX FOR ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS
1. Start up the ps3 with the harddrive cover and screw off the harddrive
2. before you start the restore take out the harddrive then press ok which will cause it too ask for a format then put the hardrive back in and click yes after that it will work

there is a way easier way to do this. just go into the ps3's safe mode and choose restore ps3 system. you get the same results as this but no unscrewin any shit. pm me if u need help gettn into the safe mode

@LVA2010 no! cause if you do format it you have to use a computer and most computers use windows OS to format things and if you try that then you can mess up your hard drive so my best bet is to save up to at least 50 dollars go to a local computer store and you can maybe trade or get a new one better than 160GB (the type of hard drive i use) and thats all i can do to help
