This was the first movie that Bob Fosse directed. When it opened in the late 1960's it bombed. Universal spent a ton of money to bring this to the screen. Fosse's next film was a little movie called Cabaret. He won an Oscar for directing the film.
He won out over Franics Ford Coppola for the Godfather.
thanks you so much for posting this, one of my favorite movies, which i have not had the chance to see in such a long time... and, now that I have seen this scene again, i wonder how i could have forgotten how major this is! so many showstoppers from that movie alone. it is mind-blowing.
