This section of the stour was tidal until the early 70's when they built the barrage that can be seen through the arches of the red bridge, thus the bottom is quite muddy and silty. not ideal barbel water. There are big carp in this stretch and tench. my bggest tench from this stretch (about 3/4 mile upstream) was 8 & 3/4lb. there may be barbel in Flatford mill pool and below although I've never heard of any caught. the bottom here is sand and gravel.
Any Barbel caught? I don't think they are down this far yet. The furthest downstream i know is Stratford Mill pond. Plenty of Bream down in this stretch though.
i caught a 6lb bream and a 9lb barbel at the old shire horse centre in clifford. :)

Your right keith, I did,nt catch any, but it looks like a good barbel spot, and yes I did get some bream and lots of small roach !!!
