I still LOVE this plane! I suped mine up a little to get more speed. Put a 2200mah lipo in it after a canopy mod, and it flies like its on rails. Doesn't get buffeted around in the wind anymore. Awesome fun foamie :))
@TheUpflip It's not nose heavy (aerodynamically speaking) but the scale landing gear isn't far forward enough. Works on full sized, but not as well on a model. You can bend them forwards a little to help, but in general I found that it works best (and looks best in the air) as a hand launcher. If you have a very smooth surface the landing gear works fine.
This is a beautiful looking airplane.Ive had mine for several years now.The only problem with this plane is that the CG is too close too the main landing gear making it easy to tip during landing.
@maccanaut It's definitely NOT underpowered, it has unlimited vertical. But it isn't fast with the stock setup - the motor / prop is setup for thrust, not speed.
i dont know if ur motor is different but i doubt mine will have unlimited vertical climb. Its weak. Dont get me wrong.....i love this plane. I knew about all of its weaknesses and faults beforehand from forums etc. But i would like more power in it.
This is a great aircraft. I did find, however, that it is a bit too easy to break if you manage to do a bad landing. Mine snapped in half right at the trailing edge of the wings. I fixed her up with some hot glue and put her back up in the air later that same day.
nahhhhh! EDFs rock. props blow. step into the right era. most of these planes were outdated before our births. you wouldn't go into combat or a stunt show flying the wright flier would you? HELL NO! so why build these out relics of a time you never knew when there are so many even greater aircrafts now.
right on. wasn't trying to be a dick ya know. just had to get it out, lol. these planes are cool in their own right and to see an older fella flying one makes some sense, but beyond that...boring!
P51 looks a little dated and squarish, but it's performance was better than just about anything for it's time! The pilots felt nearly unstoppable in this plane.
There are actually 4 servos. One for each aileron (using a splitter), and one for each of the elevator and rudder. That's three channels, the fourth is the speed controller.
I have this airpalne. It is a beautiful warbird ! It only a couple of things to keep in mind. It has no ground steering but its easy to hook up to the rudder servo.
Also its hard to land because the CG is very close to the main landing gear. But over all its a great plane!
Thanks for your comments! I haven't hooked up the tail to the rudder servos but I see how it can be done. With practice it taxis very well using the rudder.
For landing, you really need a hard surface to keep it from nosing over. I hand-launch it over grass. In fact, I mostly hand launch it. It's very easy to install and remove the landing gear however, the legs just slide out!
Oh yeah! A hard surface is a MUST when using landing gear. But I guess practice helps a lot too. Im just a beginner at 4 channel airplanes but Im learning :) Went flying this morning and for the FIRST time I had 2 good landings. This plane keeps getting better and better. Take care and ty for the advise
I have a question: I have never owned/played with/flown with rc planes before (But Im not a total airplane noob either, I do play with simulaters how and when I can, and I am studying to be an aeronautical engineer). Would this be any good as a first RC plane? It doesnt look it, but I thought Id ask anyway.
Honestly, no. Go for a high wing, tricycle gear type of thing. I got this from SN Hobbies, they have another plane called the Wing Tiger, that would be a much better trainer. Get the P-51 as your second plane, once you've got the basics down.
HI there, reat review of the Mustang, one quick question, I have a parkzone spitfire which i have reinforced with clear tape, their is no affect on performance or any weight issues. If i did the same to the mustang, do you think it would effect the weight or performance. Many thanks.

Whats the distance range for a 2.4 ghz?
loh1110 3 months ago
@loh1110 Most likely up to a couple of km. For this model, it will likely be out of sight before control is lost.

Hi there got my p51 today but it seems real nose heavy and snapped a prop on takeoff so I have to Hand launch did you have this problem

But it does fly great and it has plenty of power.

Grossly underpowered in my opinion. But then its probably meant to fly scale only. I still love it. I have to......i got one. :-)

@briguy99 mines from Hobbyking and has:
Length: 840mm
WingSpan: 960mm
Prop: 1060x4
Weight: 500g
Motor: DAT-700 Brushless outrunner 700kv
ESC: 20A brushless
Battery: 11.1v 1300mAh 3S1P (Not included)
Servos: 9g x 4
i dont know if ur motor is different but i doubt mine will have unlimited vertical climb. Its weak. Dont get me wrong.....i love this plane. I knew about all of its weaknesses and faults beforehand from forums etc. But i would like more power in it.

@maccanaut Mine has the same specs. Check out my flight video of this model and you'll see the vertical performance. It's just not set up for speed.

@ssrc30 That's the nice thing about foamies - they'll crash and break, but they'll repair in no time at all!

Gotta love EDF's too :)

I cant figure out what the discharge on the batteries are or what type of connectors there are to match up with a ballance charger.
Nile505 2 years ago
20C batteries, the balance connector is pretty standard.

More beautiful than the Spitfire with its elliptical wings?? Have you been sniffing too much CA??! Nice video anyway!
keeprighton2007 2 years ago
No, the Spitfire is in a class of its own. The P-51 is still one of my favourites though!

can you get parts for this plane, such as the fuselage, wings, and tail feathers.

Yes, parts are available at many stores, including SN Hobbies where I got mine.

Not yet ;) I want to wring it out stock a bit before I mess with it. It looks do-able.
