In my opinion the Nichiren ShoShu priesthood were holding back the spiritual growth of the SGI membership. Away from Japan, the Priests were practically non involved, non interested and detached. In many cases the Priests were neglectful and/or abusive of non Japanese members. Soka Gakkai took Nichiren Buddhism from obscurity to actually being on "the radar" in many lands. Just search for the facts people. Don't just take my word for it NOR the Pro-Priests word. Do some independent research.

IF in fact SGI embraces NICHIREN Buddhism, how come the festival of OESHIKI is never observed? (Oeshiki is the celebration of the Transition of Nichiren in Ikegami, Tokyo on the 13 or 14th of October). I am an ex-SGI member practising more with Nichiren Shu now. I NEVER HEARD of Oeshiki within the SGI movement! Never! Shame!

People have other ways to make themselves clear or concentrate such as meditation, calligraphy, sports, music etc. Personally, the chanting sound is creepy and I feel it has mediocre conscious and subconscious level. It's far from peace and rather like bursting evil energy by chanting.

If you chant the law with the realization that this law is inherent in all of life and Nichiren Daishonin words " lower the wall of your arrogance and cast aside the staff of your anger and devote yourself exclusively to chanting the law" How then can you, whoever you are make the cause to slander the propagation of this teaching that serves to make people happy. I joined very recently & my life has changed for my own benefit & that of my society. I found SGI centre helped in educating, motivating and encouraging me to learn about Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism & Lotus Sutra, I received free study material & free books etc. The elders were patient with my questions & were compassionate towards my goals & perspectives. Any organization is comprised of people & there are all sorts of people learning Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism in SGI & changing every day!
I see some people here very angry with SGI, I see classic example of Technology being used to vent out anger. Everyone is free of making their own mind and having their own opinion. SGI does notask for money/run its centres around the world to raise money, its solely for humanitarian efforts, so even if you don't ever join SGI, there is nothing right/wrong with it.

This is the best religion, for those who really dare to understand it. It is based in the Soft Power, and on the Lotus Sutra. I have been studying it for years and I still can´t find the wrong in it. And it is not about what they do with it in japan, it´s how do I apply it to my life to become a person who creates value in sociate. It is practical, not imaginary, it is reallity what counts. SGI was founded in 1975 by Ikeda, he brought together the different branches of Nichiren Buddhism. They are separated since 2001, now. The only reason SGI is keeping the Lotus Sutra and the way of practicing is fear of losing it's members.
all i really know is that i have gained good benefits from this buddhism (read: i said Buddishm, the religion itself, not the organisation) and the my leaders have been all nice people. so probably you are right, i dont understand how its like in japan, given that in Singapore, Soka is generally accepted, just like any other religious organisation.

In my opinion the Nichiren ShoShu priesthood were holding back the spiritual growth of the SGI membership. Away from Japan, the Priests were practically non involved, non interested and detached. In many cases the Priests were neglectful and/or abusive of non Japanese members. Soka Gakkai took Nichiren Buddhism from obscurity to actually being on "the radar" in many lands. Just search for the facts people. Don't just take my word for it NOR the Pro-Priests word. Do some independent research.

(Oeshiki is the celebration of the Transition of Nichiren in Ikegami, Tokyo on the 13 or 14th of October). I am an ex-SGI member practising more with Nichiren Shu now. People have other ways to make themselves clear or concentrate such as meditation, calligraphy, sports, music etc. Personally, the chanting sound is creepy and I feel it has mediocre conscious and subconscious level. It's far from peace and rather like bursting evil energy by chanting.

If you chant the law with the realization that this law is inherent in all of life and Nichiren Daishonin words " lower the wall of your arrogance and cast aside the staff of your anger and devote yourself exclusively to chanting the law" How then can you, whoever you are make the cause to slander the propagation of this teaching that serves to make people happy. Remember the law of cause and effect. As an SGI member my purpose is to help bring joy to others.

unrealize88, Alderlyn74 and several other IDs who habitually leave very negative comments under videos relating to the SGI are astroturfing. I.e. they pretend to be posting in a private capacity, but in fact they are part of an organised smear campaign. The most likely culprit is the Nichiren Shoshu sect, which is very hostile to the SGI and has a history of dishonest activities.

Akiyo Asaki, a city council member of Higashi Murayama, was killed. She was trying to protect people who had left Soka Gakkai from Soka's harassment. There are some other people who could be killed like her. Be careful.

Lies and bullshit again. I acknowledge that Medecin Sans Frontiere, The Red Cross, The Salvation Army, The Red Crescent and all these charities are investing for peace because they go in places where there are conflicts.
I've never heard about your Organisation.
Regarding money... Your sect keep money between members and schools sponsored by SGI.

I joined very recently & my life has changed for my own benefit & that of my society. I found SGI centre helped in educating, motivating and encouraging me to learn about Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism & Lotus Sutra, I received free study material & free books etc. The elders were patient with my questions & were compassionate towards my goals & perspectives. Any organization is comprised of people & there are all sorts of people learning Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism in SGI & changing every day!

I see some people here very angry with SGI, I see classic example of Technology being used to vent out anger. Everyone is free of making their own mind and having their own opinion. SGI does notask for money/run its centres around the world to raise money, its solely for humanitarian efforts, so even if you don't ever join SGI, there is nothing right/wrong with it.

they do not raise money for their own selfish purpose, but for other's well being and happiness.
the SGI, personally, has helped me go over and beyond throughout my life.
Nichiren Buddhism has been in my life since I was born. If everyone went to a meeting or a get together then you would all see how great the believers are.

That is what SGI is promoting, Human revolution through following Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism , for personal happiness & World peace. Buddha himself said, "Follow my teachings and not the Teacher", President Ikeda says that himself!

I will complete 40 years practicing and always have seen people growing, growing and learning culture of peace. This is what I learned with SGI. Thanks a lot Daisaku Ikeda, Josei Toda and all veterans that made this organization so useful for the humanity, for society.

This is the best religion, for those who really dare to understand it. It is based in the Soft Power, and on the Lotus Sutra. I have been studying it for years and I still can´t find the wrong in it. And it is not about what they do with it in japan, it´s how do I apply it to my life to become a person who creates value in sociate. It is practical, not imaginary, it is reallity what counts. But you gotto be brave.

wow, i see idiots arguing over something so mundane.
im a member of sgi in singapore and i dont think sgi has done anything wrong. yes, maybe in japan they have some issues, but in singapore and other parts of the world, soka has been pretty good with the locals.
Every religious organisation is bad and sick, if you ill informed people were to launch such an attack against SGI.

You are a nice guy, I'm sure. But how can you be sure that the organisation that you have joined are not doing something dodgy in Japan. You are may be buying the book of Ikeda every quarter but where do you think this money is going and for what purpose?
SGI was founded in 1975 by Ikeda, he brought together the different branches of Nichiren Buddhism. They are separated since 2001, now. The only reason SGI is keeping the Lotus Sutra and the way of practicing is fear of losing it's members.

all i really know is that i have gained good benefits from this buddhism (read: i said Buddishm, the religion itself, not the organisation) and the my leaders have been all nice people. so probably you are right, i dont understand how its like in japan, given that in Singapore, Soka is generally accepted, just like any other religious organisation.

SGI is great! The world is so much a better with the SGI promoting world peace! If not for the SGI, Nichiren Buddhism and the real meaning of Buddhism from Shakyamuni will be lost in the dogma of the Temple and Priesthood.

this is the problem: "promoting". Every organisations want to show the best image of themselves (externally). When you work inside then you realize the truth. And by the way, it's a little bit easy to promote world peace... because everybody is looking for it. I've never heard about SGI working in resolving conflicts in the Middle East, Yvory Coast, Afganistan or North Korea... They just hide behind speeches and books and what is criminal is using the goodwill of people
