He's one of those guys we don't hear enough of in the UK - I heard him on a Jean Toussaint CD, playing the most interesting solo. Great stuff... need to see him live.
Jean-Michel Pilc is simply one of the great original talents on the jazz scene today. I had the good fortune to sit next to him one night in Philadelphia - what a left hand! If you get a chance to see this guy play...do it.
Haha it's great seeing that, knowing that the video was shot in the Lyon, France; I got by that building each day, and have already gigged at two of the spots where the video is shot(the main amphitheater, where the trio is, and the restaurant with the flaming statues). Interesting idea for the music; although I enjoyed it more when I saw the Pilc Quartet there, he was playing with another percussionist/pan player.
you can also enjoy his original composition "simplicity" in the same album, "new dreams". it's a stunning ballad...
