  • Racist ignorant bastards

  • this movie has to be remade & put into theaters

  • They never wanted us to make it everything that we accomplished we had to fight for it thats why its important for us to know our history so We'll never forget !!!. Cuz whose to say thay wont try it again

  • Dont know why we as black people let this type of shit get to us there was really nothing we could do back then there were no black policeman congressman or shit like that back then you had kkk that were the police, the judges even congressman so they had a huge home court advantage over us u know but thats the past and u know what after all that were still standing bitch, and in a much better position then we were feel me we got black policeman, businessman even a black pres. try dat shit now !!

  • Whilst I do not agree with racisim or inequality, I do think that black people were happier in those days working for us when they had a sense of purpose and pride in having a job as a maid or a yard hand and earning their own money. Nowadays they live in those awful filthy ghettos relying on the welfare checks we give them, which is not good for their morale. I think this is why they are so aggressive and angry. I'd say most of them would prefer to go back to the old days.

  • totally racist.

  • Each generation had it's landmark film that forever changed filmmaking. A Birth of a Nation was the first.

  • Racism will save anglosaxons in USA.

  • @Lumofag what aload of bullshit about america being the land of the free in from 1900's

  • IELTS reading test topic is about this stupid old movie .. No Offense guys

  • This movie is one of the most important ever made, from a history standpoint. And besides, at least Griffith apologized with Intolerance ;) Too bad the guy died a pauper.

  • Believe it or not some people still see the KKK as heroic and noble. It still lurks just beneath the skin. The War these people believe themselves to be fighting is still being fought in their minds. However this film is historically important, it would do more harm if it was rid of, it would be like covering over a warning sign.

  • @Lakeepler it is one the most racist movies out there its pro KKK and anti-Black but David w. Griffith was one of the most famous film producers at the time it became one of the most famous movie even though it is racist. The northern states was disgusted by it the southern states took it as inspiration. They even showed the movie to President Woodrow Wilson.

  • Spike Lee brought me here.

  • I hate that this turns into a political discussion. BOAN is a historical movie. You cant apply presentist expectations to a totally foreign world. Just appreciate it for its historical importance and relevance.

  • Have any of u seen "A Time to Kill" ?

  • UNDOUBTABLE..A MASTERPIECE FOR EVER AND EVER

  • Ah, indeed, the history of this nation. But, hey, no one watches this movie anymore... Oh, it still plays on the History Channel..... Um... Well, its only being watched by the KKK.... or.... old people... Um, i'm just gonna click away now.

  • @DarkRubberDucky

You're an idiot, this is a piece of movie cinema at its finest. sure it's very controversial but its 100 damn years old and you should thank this film because this gave birth to modern day film making.

  • And isn't the KKK technically a terrorist organization? Why are they protected under free speech? Is it because the majority of Americans don't fit the profile of the KKK's top hit list? There is a big difference between the targets of the KKK and the targets of Al Qaeda. Since the majority of Americans are threatened by Al Qaeda, there is no free speech, and you will go to jail for supporting them. But since the Klan only attacks blacks, they can exist under free speech.

  • @starvetodeath123 Thats a really un-nuanced look on the world.

  • So DW Griffin was a racist film director by making this film?

  • @NgJackal1990 no! this film represented certain views at the time. guess what history is racist.

  • If Gus didnt try to rape the girl then the brother wouldnt have started the KKK.. Blame Gus!!!!!!!

  • Have any one who criticizes this actually seen it?

  • I do not agree with the racism, but this is perfect filmmaking. D.W. Griffith transformed movies into a respectable art form, mainly due to this movie and Intolerance. This is a great epic movie. You all need to get over a movie made almost a century ago.

  • @DavidLeeMcMullen Go fuck yourself.

  • @DavidLeeMcMullen no don't forget things like this we need to keep in mind whats happend in our history for if we do not learn for it we are doomed to repeat it you dumb ass if it was not for people in the civil rights movement we always have ignorent fucktared like nick griffen and fucking D.W. Griffith. fuck you liberelist we need to be hard on fucking racism!!!!!!!!!

  • @ThatGeordieGAMER Your mother is a nigger and she sucks my dick !!

  • America is still the same....Free Men are still treated the same.

  • It's racist because at the time, and among the demographic that Griffith belonged to, that was the prevailing ideology. Even President Woodrow Wilson held the same beliefs and perceptions.

But it is and always will be the most technically advanced masterpiece of it's time.

  • Wilson not only held the same beliefs he used his presidency to forward his hate agenda against Blacks.

  • Hey bootlip888 ur an asshole

  • Every bit is true. Filthy sub-human niggers are the main problem in America. We need to ship all those black bastards back to the Muddafuka land.

  • @bootlip888 Hey bootlip, you're a faggot! Kill yourself.

  • @bootlip888 Hey bootlip, you're a faggot!

  • @bootlip888 Hey bootlip, you're a faggot!

  • did you get beat up or molested? you must be alone or really sad and have nothing better to do than to spend time hating. I wish the best.

  • Apparently President Woodrow Wilson actually endorsed part of this film in a private screening at the white house!!! Pfft...he isn't my woodykins any more!! (GCSE HISTORY 4 LIFE)

  • The American nation was founded on racism!

  • White and proud

  • @monkeyfeet122 Then how do you account for large disparity in wages for the same job based on the sole reason of color or sex?

  • @diablos2525 To answer your second question. Racism is simply demeaning another race by means of suppression, bigotry, or violence. As a white man I am incredibly disgusted that people still seem to think racism does not still exist. Look at the facts, minorities and woman still get paid around 60 to 70% of what their white male counterparts do; I'm really not just making that up. It's not fair any way you look at it, so yes racism is not just a word, it still exists and needs to be ended.

  • @dnmabra12

That statistic you referred to has nothing to do with sexism or racism, buddy.

  • @diablos2525 The thing is that it's not true. David Work, the son of a confederate lieutenant, created this film with the implicit intent to perpetuate stereotypes of carpetbaggers and scalawags in the south. He portrayed the Ku Klux Klan to be a heroic force after the war instead of a bigoted and violent group of people far more ignorant then the blacks they were victimizing. Blacks may have been illiterate, which was due to their slavery and suppression, but blacks were not by any means dumb.

  • One of the best examples of how American society, and our ancestors' collective ignorance, ruined a potential classic. If you look at this film objectively, the invention of wide-angled shots and interchanging action sequences were brilliant, battle scenes of the war were great. I wouldn't blame the director, he made "intolerance" as redemption, a costly title that would; with harsh irony put him in the red.

  • Bring back the good days, great film .../.

  • @MikeyCocoa1 what?????

  • @ThePeterKrpan I wonder how they got here...

  • This is the first sci-fi movie ever made.

    Why?

Come on! Klansmen facing black men face to face in a fight?

This is sci-fi at its best!!!!

  • You have to remember, this movie was made in 1915. This would not be considered a "racist piece of shit" in their day. Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was educational. If we all just blindly forget our history we are bound to repeat it. I think it is nice that in our era these type of moves are still around to remind us of what it was like. Honestly, for its era, it is well written and preformed.

-All this coming from a Young Jewish History Fanatic

  • @ThePeterKrpan you invaded first genius. hahaha

  • In the game rapakalja this movie where described as Memebers of the KKK saving white women from bloodthirsty Negros

  • this movie is nothing but TRUTH

  • @MrReb74

When you go to jail Tyrone will have a word with your pink ass....

  • @sataricon111 It's hard to beat barney franks but your the gayest democrat of them all.

  • Save our Land, Join The Klan!

  • This was the first movie ever shown at the White House. Made not long after the 1st black heavyweight boxing champ of the world, Jack Johnson, married a white woman striking fear into the hearts of the white power structure. It's a propaganda film made to promote segregation, and to attack miscegenation, which they had failed to outlaw in congress. It's a racist piece of shit.

  • Maybe the movie is a little too far to the right seen with modern eyes, but our society these days have ended up way to far to the left.

  • @Snurremegrundt thats your opinion. I think we're currently much too far right.

  • @jamesthemaniac It's not an opinion, it's a fact. The reason why those on the right are so visible, is because there are so many to be foubd on the opposite side. In a room filled with people dressed in black, it's always easy to spot those few dressed in white.

  • @Snurremegrundt well, who gave you the authority to decide exactly where on the political spectrum our country SHOULD be? We're still a country that discriminates against gays, muslims, hispanics, and many other groups. We're still a country dominated by christian morality, discriminating against those of us who don't prescribe to a christian theology.

  • @Snurremegrundt The reason why the right is so visible is because they are LOUDER!

  • Horrifyingly racist, yet groundbreaking and revolutionary. I respect this film for its contributions to modern filmmaking, but not its content.

  • @drcoxcentral Hi, I just read your recent comment. What is interesting is that I like to jerk off with my right hand while my left thumb is up my butt. Want to get together and have a party?

  • I thought this film was silent. Why are their sound effects?

  • People, at least part of the reason it is still viewed is because of the fact that the film making was clearly ahead of it's time.

  • This movie led to the KKK revival in the 1920s. Sad.

  • KKK the saviors? TF?!

  • lol the good ole kkk coming to the rescue, never thought i'd see that

  • This is the most racist movie I have ever seen, and unbelievably, they still play this on the History Channel. At the end of the movie the KKK is seen as a saviour that is defending white people from black people. ??? When this movie was made black people did not even have the same rights and protections afforded to white people so who actually needed protection? This movie is a blight and the fact that people used to view the KKK as noble and heroic is a joke.

  • @Lakekepler but history is racist get over it

  • @Lakekepler As much i don't like the aspect of this film, this gave rise to the modern dat filmaking in hollywood. This is 100 years old so get over it. Racism wasn't common to the whites to at that time, it's ok to stereotype others but today it get's frowned upon as the PC gave rise after the Cold War ended.

  • recomdatin of versallis made ever

  • Great picture. One of the most important in movie history, who gives a fuck about racism and stuff like that?! That is one of the worst things that exist in humanity, but that's not the way how we should watch on this film.

  • @stephen8575 this film also shows what is going on when democracy is installing and everyone has the right to vote. becouse one man is hard warking an justise and the another is lazy and rude and by voting he can rob the wealthy mens and lead the tyrany of the majority. and ku klux klan was defending at the very bigining the white before the tyrany of democrasy and not to be robbed. i can tell you again history is totaly different than we are teached in schools

  • @stephen8575 If you were to look at it from a filmmaking stature alone, it's a momunental achievement. Plus, you have to consider this was the social norms at the time - not that it is justified in anyway.

  • no wonder this film was made by a son of a Confederate.

  • I feel pretty pathetic living in America with people who have the same viewpoints as GundumLeviathan

  • Excellent film that is still relevant today, sadly. D.W. Griffith painted a chillingly accurate potrayal of African American behavior in a post Civil War United States. If only we'd listened to this brilliant film then, our nation wouldn't be in such dire times as it is now. Considering how the Obama administration has been, Griffith's The Birth of a Nation seems in many ways like a prophecy of documentary rather than action adventure (as many thought of it as at the time).

  • @GundamLeviathan Your an idiot..

  • @bongo46 I'm an idiot? Well, perhaps I am to your naive, propaganda spouting point of view (what a shame that so many are locked into a POV that breeds ignorance. I blame the Civil Rights Movement and the Obama Administration). However, at least I know how to properly spell, "you're." I do not blame you, however. African American's are notoriously difficult to properly teach and train.

  • @GundamLeviathan "african americans are notoriously difficult to teach and train".

Which is why a majority of them have jobs... [over 80 percent].

Even so... bombing black children because you think they're "dumber" isn't right.. i'm sure you don't give a fuck though.. you probably would of clapped if you seen it happening.

  • @AgrivatedKillah LOL, hardly. I never take pleasure in the misfortune of others. African children do not deserve to be bombed or killed. It isn't like they can help being what they are. Truly, I pity them more than anything else.

  • @GundamLeviathan You are not very bright. But it would be wrong of me to have any intollerance for you or or your opinions, so keep going brother and don't stop learning! x

  • @djullah I don't see how I've said anything wrong, good sir. There is no need to resort to childish insults. I'm merely giving my objective view of things based on the world around me. The world would be better if we didn't behave like such babyish anti-intellectuals and looked at things objectively, no? If you did, you would realize the truths found in D.W. Griffith's masterpiece.

  • mfw the director wasn't even racist.

  • MOST HILARIOUS MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!

  • There are three things I know about this film even though I haven't seen it. 1.) It's realllllllly old. 2.) It's reallllllllllly long. And 3.) It's realllllllllly racist. Not cool. :(

  • as racist and fucked up this movie is,bare in mind that in that era, most people didnt know no better, now if some shit like this came out today, thats a different story, its sad that this is actually the genesis/pioneer to the full length motion picture but then again, flicks like these serve as a good reminder of where some unexplained things came from

  • @crisdigi What the fuck are you talking about? They knew exaCTLY WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

  • The most admired movie among the most despised ones.

  • it should not be in the 100 best movies, this is racist propaganda

  • Two words for u fu** off

  • @OldHollywood93

    Two words

    BLACK POWER

  • This is the most racist movie ever made!!!!!!!

  • @w126bmm True, but it's a Historical gem to see why people were more openly racist and what can be done to stop and/or reduce it.

    History Masters Student here.

  • @w126bmm i think american history x is

  • @w126bmm So if something is true, but depicts blacks in a bad light, even if it's true; it's still racist? What is "racist" but a label that egalitarians use to smear and crush dissent from their established orthodoxy view on the subject of race relations?

  • @w126bmm

No kidding, it was made in 1915, when Jim Crow was at it's zeneth. The author of the orginal books the movie was based on, Thomas Dixon was a racist and the story goes he wrote his three books in response to Harriett Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom' Cabin after seeing an adaptation and crying at how it condemendth pre-civil war southern socitey, and among his source materials for the books were editorial cartoons, and Griffith himself was the son of a Confederate Calvalry officer

  • @w126bmm you dont understand this film birth of a nation 1915, its not racist. History is totaly different than many people think, this film only present the true. ku klux klan at the very biginng was an organisation only to protect the white, and the president of the ku klux klan was given an aword from president of USA in 1929 if i remember for servise for american nation.

  • I cannot believe I sat through the whole movie.. It's really long

  • The most classic film

  • @MrTTaylor25

Lol stop being a clown and stop showing yourself up you fucking honky!

  • "Still the Greatest Motion Picture Ever Made".........hmmm because there were probably only 3 others made that year...........

Dat dumb dare is a goodsa moveh.........

  • The traitors and treason mongers lost, and have been losers ever since they tried to secede. fuck 'em.

  • Watch 'REMEMBER THE TITANS' instead of this shit!

  • White honky cum coloured animals. Early 1900 shit. Me and some black buds beat you honkys down for fun! I dont rape White women because they are disgusting and thilthy honky trash!

    BLACK POWER: the only solution

    HONKY POWER: retarded illusion

Burn the rednecks to the ground a lynch honkys and their kin! Join the BP and you will have the revolution of a lifetime.

  • @Mixedracepride dont be racist. maybe you are right to be racist but love people. I am white but my heros are Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Mohammad Ali. I am Turkish but my national team is Ghana national football team. But you are right about white women, especially their voice is unbearable. But some black men love white women and I love black women. their eyes and voice are perfect.

  • @rapid37 Wait, Turkish people are white? I knew it, no wonder you all look so European.

  • @FernandoHEspinoza We are not European. In Turkey, colour is not important. I am white and have green eyes but I like brunettes. We cant say all Turks are white or black. Turkish people are mixed race.

  • @rapid37 Yeah I know a lot of people there dont like to consider themselves European even though they obviously are (genetically-speaking). I guess its partly because Euros have tarnished their reputations that many refuse to identify with them. Many of you are descended from the Greek colonists in the area though, right? Either way I think it's great how little imprtance color has in Turkey. Ive always believed that people who identify too much with their race, do so because of low self-esteem.

  • @Mixedracepride shut the hell up

  • @Mixedracepride

    Retarded Illusion?

So how come when white people came on their slave ships to Africa, black people were living in mud huts in grass skirts, running around eating each other.

While white people had made a civilised society with education, architecture, scientific advancements etc?

We're not the ones that look like Apes.

  • @OldHollywood93 Hey smart guy ever heard of Egypt or Kush which is now Sudan these were the functioning civilizations with irrigation systems etc. Please before you write a comment educate yourself. Ever heard of mitochondrial Eve, look it up. This type of ignorance is the reason the USA is 30 in the world in education. Uneducated people black and white will be the demise of this country. I feel so sad for you and hope that you aren't a parent. Be well.

  • @OldHollywood93 There were many thriving African societies with religious structures, governments, marriage ceremonies and codes of morals and ethics. True, there were many individuals in America who contributed to a 'civilized' social structure, but that doesn't mean that everywhere people weren't wearing button-up shirts was uncivilized. Americans enslaved and brutally abused human beings, how is that civilized? (I know other countries have kept slaves, but it's really not excusable anywhere)

  • @OldHollywood93 Your an idiot..

  • WOOHOO WHITE POWER! no more kikes, spics, muds, niggers,a-rats and other cumshots!

  • Moral of the entire story/movie:

Black people are savage baboons that want to rape your women and act like animals....so don't wait! Join the Ku Klux Klan and white women will please you in bed for saving them from these savages. P.s....WHITE POWER

  • @JimmyHopkins2 Your an idiot and a coward and a retard...

  • Woodrow Wilson liked this movie a lot...gee, I wonder why.

  • @octobermourning Why wouldn't he? This movie is absolutely hilarious :D

  • i thought this was a silent film. so why are there sound effects like gunshots? And as for all the people wanting a sequel, there already was one. It was called The Fall of a Nation. It is a lost film.

  • Book "Black Southerners in confederate Armies" shows black confederate sodiers (like men such as Daniel Robinson)! Book at amazon!

  • When was the sound added. They didn't have talkies in those days, but they had means of recording sound w/ seperate equipment. Are those sounds from 95 years ago?

  • Why do people waste their time arguing (online, nonetheless) about shit that doesn't matter? Sit back, enjoy the video, and keep your own conjectures to yourselves.

  • @88erictolson stfu

  • @leckysmeck123 Wow. Nice retort. I bet the 8th grade debate club shudders in fear when you're around.

  • @88erictolson it was a racist video dumbass the video is clearly bias towards black people so just becuz it means nothin to u doesnt mean thats the case for evrybody so jus do me a favor and do wat i jus said the first time stfu

  • @leckysmeck123 1. I am not racist in any way, but anybody who gets offended by a movie that is 96 years old is merely looking for a reason to get upset. 2. The times were different then. Maybe the racial stereotypes and caricatures used in this movie were meant to be seen as plot devices or character tools, not as racist hyperbole. 3. Your opinions maybe easier to digest and comprehend, should you choose to use proper spelling and punctuation. And also please stop using arbitrary abbreviations.

  • @88erictolson

Thanx for not being racist, but the film is based on racism (the whole idea that one race is superior to another). It was meant to be that way. It's based on the Ku Klux Klan. Original (title) is supposed to be called "The Clansman". Plus, the "black" characters (who are really white actors) in the movie were portraying false images of black people to be inferior human beings and rapist(propaganda). The whole idea of the movie was "the KKK saved the nation".

  • @lachefderouge Now that I have actually seen this film, I have determined that you are right. But, although it is racist, we can now view it with a sense of humor. Laughing at how insanely ignorant this is does more damage to the bigoted message than complaining about it.

  • @88erictolson Yea...easier said than done. Because, stuff like this reminds some ppl who actually dealt with it, and hurts to know how a certain group of ppl are treated, (this happens to different groups worldwide) just because you were born a certain way, and have ppl rule over you with "superficially thoughts" based on ignorance. But one thing that ppl who had to deal with such things need to know that "history is for learning, and the past will not write your future in stone".

  • We need to watch Birth of a Nation for its truth and the techniques used in it rather than just saying its aload of racist bullshit

While it is definately Racist, we should use it as a point to show that this is how the blacks were treated back in the Civil War days and that we should never re-do such a thing again.

D.W. shows it from the point of the White people at the time, something that almost all directors don't have the guts to do.

Though yes, it could have been toned down a bit.

  • Black people should thank us for bringing them here to live in America

  • @thinchris you retarded piece of shit. you are a stereotype republican and a christian. yes that's how easy it was to determine your political affiliation and religion. From 1 comment. ROFL!!!

  • @MMODreamer Would you rather live in Africa?

  • Comment removed

  • @leckysmeck123 Don't curse

  • KKK lets go

  • KKK are a son of bitches

    fucking stupids

  • @Tangax337 wow! i didnt realise people as narrow minded as you actually existed, thanks for proving to me that people as sick and deluded as yourself are real, ignorant cunt.

  • okay wow, there is actually ppl who say the KKK are cool? this is why history always finds a way to repeats again and again

  • fuk the KKK and every evil white person whose heart rejoices in the destruction of men and women different from them.

  • This trashy, disgrace to humans--the KKK--is exactly what makes this country look like a horrible place. I understand why so many countries despise us. What makes it worse? We try to deny our history.

  • WOW look at our generation. First off NO ONE KNOWS WHAT REAALLL RASCISM IS!!!

White People think that calling us niggers and porch monkeys is rascism? WRONG this is REAL rascsm ^^^ clip you saw. All the lynching and hanging and hit first ask later THATS THE REAL DEAL NOT THE SHIT YALL DO KNOW.

    and

    Black People-

    Getting Beat/Hung/Stabbed/Killed/Segregated thats real rascism.

All this name calling shouldnt effect you your not going through the real thing

    like our anscestors did

  • you racist bastards try walking through harlem whilst preaching all that stupid shit, i dare you.

  • You guys gotta stop complaining. Things change over time. Maybe 100 years from now the Chinese would be ruling the world and find old clips of Americans portraying Chinese workers as slaves would cause an outrage. So stop your bitching.

  • WOW ! A movie that wasnt made by Jews, thats rare. Best movie of all time. 2 thumbs up !

  • @Classified1488 Right on brother! Death to all Jews! White power! Long lives the holy army of Christ. WHITE POWER! WHITE POWER! WHITE POWER! Oh yeah, don't forget that its bring your Son to work day on our next Klan Rally. See you there bud!

  • @shayngreen Things like this are why I wish I could Favourite comments

  • @Tangax337

Greeks are olive skinned with brown eyes and dark hair. Greeks 2 and a half thousand years ago... even more olive skinned, with browner eyes and darker hair.

  • @Tangax337

Medicine started thousands of years ago, due to an ancient Greek fellow named Hippocrates. I'm pretty sure he wasn't white.

  • @Tangax337 Looks like someones Cracker daddy didn't teach him grammar, nor to spell.

  • this movie is the single most repuslsive film ever made not it because it lacks redemable qualities but because it has plenty. the film is so masterfuly made it disturbs me to think that someone can be smart enough to make it skill-wise and still have this way of thinking

  • If you want to see a REALLY good "epic" movie of that era, go look up an Italian produced movie from 1914 (yes a year earlier) called "Cabiria". The movie stands up well even for today's audiences.

Another MUCH better movie from 1915 was a movie by Cecil D. DeMille (yes THAT De Mille) called "The Cheat". Go and watch that and you will be surprised how "modern" that movie feels.

There ARE a LOT of other feature length movies being produced in that time that are far superior to BofN.

  • If any of YOU fucks actually bothered to sit down and REALLY watch this "movie" you'd find it to be incredibly boring and banal.

  • This movie is racist? You make it sound like a bad thing.

  • I heard this was one of the greatest movies ever made, despite the ku klux klan being portrayed as the good guys.

  • I heard Fox News is producing a sequel.

  • It's kinda weird to see that racist can be genius. I mean, Griffith invented Cinematographic language in a way, and, even if there is "Intolerance", his following film, i still believe he was racist. 'Cause whatever you say, this is the movie who invented (American) Cinema. Like Céline in a certain way, maybe the greatest writer ever, but an f*ckin' Antisemit. (sorry for my english).
